09. The New Division - Kids My UP entry in the contest before last, the fact you didn't remember it when you partook probably means it hasn't stuck so I'm not surprised at the neutral rating! I really love this, don't know much else about them except they are an LA quartet.

I've exchanged emails with The New Division in the past few years. They took their name from Joy Division & New Order, they've never toured/performed in Europe, sadly.

Their best song, in my eyes is 'True Lies'.

great, great track.

I realise it's a bit late in the day to say this but I don't seem to be able to actually play these songs. Double clicking on the titles just opens up iTunes and doesn't play anything. :/ This may be just a slight problem.

A few people will have to hurry up with their reviews soon, deadline is tomorrow.

Gotta start listening OOPS
Are they actually MP3s?

They're '.m4a', so I'm gonna say no and that's probably the problem?

I must apologise to Brett-Butler the sender of the CD which I received, however I'm not going to have chance to review it by the deadline. I've listened to it quite a bit, and I enjoy it but I've been so busy this week and will be for at least another week. I WILL post a review though and I shall continue to be listening to it (well, a large part of it), I just can't get over how little time I have at the moment. :(

Bass Van Soap Off

I have absolutely no idea what the title refers to but I have to say I did enjoy listening to this collection of seemingly pitchfork friendly tracks, none of which I have heard before.

1. The first track arrives with a barrage of percussion and a female sample, leading to a raucous wall of synth sound. A really energetic track sets off the cd really nicely 8/10

2. Warm womb-like sounds lead off the second track before a chilled synth riff cuts in. Quite a funky little track leads into a (yet another) cover of Wicked Games. A really nice take on this tune that sounds qite different from any other version I've heard. 7/10

3. The chilled feeling is carried on into the next track with a simlar beat and another chiming synth riff. This track is more sparse but is not quite as memorable as the first two. The chorus comes across as a bit too sing-songy for me to be truly good. 6/10

4. Another chilled track (where's my thesaurus!) that carries on where the last track left off. But instead of being bored with tracks that are too samey, there is enough of a difference to make the listen enjoyable. 6/10

5. Ocean waves carry aloft more synths and a relaxed male vocal before some gentle percussion starts and a really 70s synth sound drifts through the speakers. Pleasant. 6/10

6. Yet more of the same but don't get me wrong I am liking this. Although I think some people might consider the mood conveyed here to be a little too static, this is more of a cd to drift along to. 6/10

7. Bit more upbeat here with a more thudding beat and a real 80s synth base sound. Cut up vocals make this more varied in tone. 6/10

8. More chillwave. A fractured glitchy beat leads to pitch altered vocals and yet more 80s inspired synths. 7/10

9. More of caribbean/latin feel to this track. PLeasant enough and fits in well with the rest of the compilation. 5/10

10. The last of the main tracks on the CD has a slightly more shoe-gazer-ish feel to it with dreamy laid back vocals and chiming guitars. 7/10

Epilogue 1. A change of mood as an (analogue?) organ makes this instrumental track more of a departure from what has gone before. Although the synths and a tinkling piano soon arrive. 5/10

Epilogue 2. Another chilled intro leads into quite a witch housey glitchy beat. This sounds like an upbeat drag track with more womb like synths and another fractured vocals. 6/10

Epilogue 3. A slightly more insistant beat brings an 80s funky bass-line and yet more of those synths. Another cut up vocal/sample aslowly becomes more distinct. 5/10

Epilogue 4. Slower beats and more synths and another unrecognisable chopped-up vocal sample with a bit more of dubby production to this track. 5/10

So altogether a pleasant way of spending an hour. Nothing really stands out that much but the cd hangs together very well. I might have thought Ben would have sent this at first but the tagging (the art files were still in the tags!) wasn't not up to his intriguing standards but as it is I don't have a clue who sent it. But thank you very much.

MINE. glad you liked it to an extent (not seen so many 6/10s in one place!) Tried to keep it vaguely in the same theme but without being to samey so hoped i achieved that at least!!

Thomsen don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed listening to it. It's definitely a case of the whole being more than the sum of the parts. I just wouldn't listen to any of the tracks in isolation but they hang together really well.

That's all well and good...

...but you're not talking to Thomsen. :D

I'm insulted!

Mine is coming LOL, sorry for being such a lil last minute host!!! Been busy with thesis/getting a job. But it is comin ;)

Explosions

Includes an artwork of an orange background and (obviously) an explosion.

01. Nice start. Not on English language, but that doesn't mean anything of course. 8/10

02. Brilliant music, kinda strange lyrical content though. 8.5/10

03. Great dancey pop tune, quite my thing every now and then. 8.5/10

04. A bit too long, or one too many verses but good track nevertheless. Probably takes a while to get used to. 8/10

05. This is the highlight of the CD, where the title of the CD is taken from. 8/10

06. The violins make this track more anthemic. 8.5/10

07. Very 80s pop, with heavy beats. Nice. 7.5/10

08. Another 80s sound, or at least it reminds me of. It's a grower I guess. 7/10

09. Non-English. The pace is getting slower, which is expected of course. Anyway, it's decent enough. 7/10

10. Decent track. Production could've been a little better I feel. 7/10

11. Decent track as well. 7/10

12. Near 5 minute track. Vocally, it kinda reminds me of Loreen. Nice. 7.5/10

13. Good. 8/10

14. Decent dance track. 7.5/10

15. Things get different from here on. Great track, I like the wobbles in the 2nd verse. 8/10

16. Sounds great musically. 8/10

17. Decent enough. 7.5/10

18. The song suitably ends in like a clock ticking. 8/10

Dunno who made this, but someone definitely made a lot of effort to this. And I wonder if this CD was actually made for me?

Sorry that my review is rushed...

Okay, like I mentioned before, I have Listen At Your Own Peril!!

01. One Wow!!!!! I love this. Really tight drum n bass background with like a funky satar sounding instrument overlayed?? Next level. I love it. Who is this???? 9/10

02. Zwei Really dark sort of vibe. Heavy bass. Icy RNB vocals - a lil Twigs-y but more rough around the edges but I like that. Never really culminates into any "aha!" moment but I love the vibe still. 8/10

03. Trois Not quite as exciting as the last two. Has a spoken word over electronic background but it does not really appeal 2 me emotionally. Alright but never really captures my attention tbh 5/10

04. Quatro Sort of dancehall-ish electro background with male vocals. Definitely not drawn to male vocals as much tbh, but I do like a lot of the production on this. Kinda funky. Spunky n a lil over all the place in a good way! 6/10

05. Cinque Beginning almost reminded me a lil of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu LOL sorry. Kind of lame like indie-pop vocals tho, sort of reminds of like Two Door Cinema Club in a way, or just has that sort of "vibe". Not my thing but still a catchy pop song. 5/10

06 Seks Same as the long song really ): Sorry. This one has a lot more interesting production tho. 6/10

07 Toto - Africa 10/10 oh my god I was literally just like watching this last night LOL. I always have loved this song. I came home from a party drunk last night and like forced my boyfriend to watch the video. It's just one of those songs. God the production on this...80s stuff like this, Men At Work, just gets 2 me and gets in my head idk why

08 Cults - Go Outside Aw this song is still so QT! If people don't know it yet, they should. I hate them though besides this song LOL 8/10

09 Devyat I am going 2 guess this song is called In the Water. It is really catchy! This is more of the male vocals I like 2 hear. Has a Tanlines/Lemonade vibe. It could even be them and I wouldn't be surprised hahaha, one of my favs on the CD! So summery 8/10

10 Ata Kind of similar vibe to the last one, mix of synth elements and guitar. Male vocals. Not as good as the last song, but the production is interesting and is sort of starting to dig its way into my brain. good! 7/10

Overall, really, really good!! And everyone should get a link. Three or four songs I didn't know that I definitely want to be a part of my library, and I literally listened to Africa like 3 times after hearing it here. Obviously I know who made this, but I'll let you reveal yourself!

!!!

be flattered thomsen.

Oh For goodness Sake! I am such a clown sometimes. Sorry Thomsen and thanks for the CD Chris!

Even without the 'In The Water' this definitely sounds like this, yes?

It was my JAM a fair while ago.

Think I'd quite like a link to the CD you received! <3
