May 4, 201312 yr I'd reveal my tracklist but I have good word that my recipient will end up reviewing my CD! And I don't want to end up telling who's on it as I'm convinced it works better this way. Ditto.
May 4, 201312 yr Happy to swap with you or anyone else if my link still works. Be warned that it may be tough going though!!! :D Deal I'll send it straight away.
May 7, 201312 yr I r reviewing my CD right now so whoever submitted 'CD Swap' has got a lucky day today (probs tomorrow tho)!
May 22, 201312 yr The Prettiest Girl in Town 01 Girls 'Vomit' I haven't listened to this, nor them, in an absolute age and I'd forgotten how good it was. Actually, I'm not sure I ever gave it enough time to grow on me as I'm loving it on this compilation far more than I did at the time. A really great reminder... 02 Sufjan Stevens 'That Dress Looks Nice On You' Lovely track. Seven Swans is such a nice album, from a time when his music was so simple and effective. I'm assuming that you're telling a story with this disc and that we're at the stage of first sights? 03 ?? I didn't like this the first time I listened, although I was intrigued by the 'wet like a dog' lyric that is repeated a few times throughout. It's grown on me somewhat though, I think it reminds me of something but I can't for the life of me think what - which is no use to you as a comment whatsoever! 04 ?? 'My Love' This made me smile so much when I first heard it on the train to work. I have no idea who this is but it's a cover of the rather excellent Justin Timberlake track. Really deadpan electronica like an even quirkier version of Hot Chip or Chromeo or something. 05 ?? I really love this one. I feel I may already know it but I'm not sure as I think I'd remember the lyrics, reminds me of Black Box Recorder lyrics wise. I assume it may be called 'The Art of Kissing Properly'? Anyway, one of my favourites on this compilation and definitely something I'll be transferring to the ipod. 06 ?? This is another one that sounds like so many songs I would listen to but I'm not sure if I already know it or not... I do really enjoy it though, this one reminds me of 00s A-Ha which is no bad thing at all. 07 Beirut 'Elephant Gun' I love Beirut. I hadn't listened to him for far too long and this has remedied that situation rather nicely. The use of brass just makes me smile every time, he's so distinctive yet so traditional. 08 ?? We're into the first foreign language track here. I'm ashamed to say that my knowledge of languages is not great so I have no idea what this guy is singing about... it's okay, maybe it would be better if I understood, but it's coming across like a typical indie-pop track to me in my state of ignorance. 09 ?? ...and into the next foreign language track. This one manages to grab me far more than the last one, reminds me of Ljusår who I entered to BJSC once (and DNQd, the injustice!) as it's indie-synth sounding, also reminds me of A-Ha a little bit! I really like this one, will be interested to find out who it is... 10 Sufjan Stevens 'I Walk' After the earlier early Sufjan track, it's good to hear a later example later! I do adore Mr Stevens so no grumbles about his inclusion again here. 11 ?? I know that I do know this one but I really can't remember who it is. It's mid 00s indie I think but I really can't remember who, argh! Pleasant enough but it's not something I'd run back to that often, as indeed I haven't since I first heard it. 12 ?? This is lovely! It's like Elbow at the beginning but it's not... it's got the same feel to it that early Snow Patrol encaptured before they went all sell out and a bit shit. Really like this. 13 ?? 'Losing You' A Solange cover?!!! I wasn't expecting something like this on the disc at all but I really love it! It's quite progressive/deep house sounding and the lyrics stolen from the Solange track work perfectly on it. Yet another keeper! 14 ?? This sounds familiar too. No idea who it is though. Sounds like a modern day Lou Reed over a melodic string backing. When I received this disc in the PM I hoped that it may introduce me to some things I didn't know and so far pretty much every track I've not known has been one I've enjoyed... 15 ?? This guy sounds familiar but I don't think I know the track. Like some of the others, the lyrics are quite distinct which appeals greatly to me. I love the song structure... there's nothing too remarkable to it but it just reminds me of so many songs I'd have loved back in the late 90s. 16 Conor Oberst? This sounds like Conor / Bright Eyes but I don't recognise the track. It's got pretty terrible sound quality, is it live or a demo? I start off thinking this one is quite a sweet little track but it gets kind of annoying by the last half, it's about 3 minutes too long! 17 Arctic Monkeys I don't have any of their albums so I have no idea what this one is... I'm just not a fan at all... the track mentions them so I assume it is them! Conclude : I really enjoyed this disc and my apologies that it took me a couple of weeks to review it after you sent it to me. If I had to guess, I'd say this was Horatio's CD! :D I've listened to it about seven or eight times since you sent it me and never been bored of it, my musical taste has veered away from guys with guitars over the past year or so and listening to your playlist has sounded really refreshing. It holds together well as a whole and, as I mentioned in the review, I can see the storyline of a guy meets girl relationship along the way which is nice to follow along with the songs. I think I'd give it an 8/10 on the whole, bravo sire! Shame on whoever didn't bother to review it first time around, it's great! :D
May 23, 201312 yr Thanks for the review Dandy, you hardly need to apologize for anything, as I haven't reviewed yours yet. (Decided to delay it until after UP voting). The idea for the album was to build on a heartbreak playlist I had lying around, and it ended up being a somewhat emo compilation, narrating a chronological story of falling in love, thinking you've found happiness, seeing things turn out differently than you've hoped, coping with that, and in the end looking forward at what may follow the story. As said, very emo, but if anybody is gonna appreciate a playlist like that, it'd have to be here. I didn't really have to make many compromises on music quality to tell the story, as I have plenty of music that fits well. I did however have to make one compromise regarding the story telling, as I couldn't find a song that said the things I wanted. Both artwork and title is taken from a print of a painting I have sitting on my wall. The Prettiest Girl in Town http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/Henrikhka/15479-9583071-7.jpg 01 Girls - Vomit I figured most people already knew this one, it is however an excellent song, and it perfectly tells a story of loneliness and frustration, which works brilliantly as a prologue for the story. 02 Sufjan Stevens - That Dress Looks Nice On You Spot on in your comment. 03 Ginger Ninja - Wet Like A Dog I think if I was to remake the compilation, I may have decided replace this with another song, as it's one of the weaker tracks. I panicked a bit at the end, when I remembered that my last reviewer complained about a complete lack of upbeat tracks. 04 Spleen United - My Love I think this one splits the audience somehow, I personally loved it after a few listens, even if it is a somewhat odd cover. 05 Moi Caprice - The Art of Kissing Properly A very calm and very brilliant song, and it fits in perfectly with the story. I absolutely love this band, and just about all their songs revolve around love in a sort of melancholical mood, which made them excellent for this list. 06 Choir of Young Believers - Nye Nummer Et A good track, but I would change it around for something else, as it doesn't fit in at all, and while it's not bad, it's not the strongest on the compilation either. Mainly included it to make sure there were a few good somewhat unknown tracks. 07 Beirut - Elephant Gun Another track that doesn't fit completely with the story, but it was simply too good not to include. I was introduced to Beirut through the cd I received last year from J▼hnkm (Seriously what's with the names on this forum...), and I've listened to him quite a lot since then. 08 Ulige numre - Navn I sne A Danish indie track, it's very sort of teenagepoetic, essentially it attempts to convey a mood or story of love, and the fleetingness of it, I thought it sets things up very well for the next track. 09 Stoffer & Maskinen - Kærestebrevet ":(" It's always puzzled me slightly that this duo has such dedicated fans on this forum, as they're not that big in Denmark and they sing in Danish. I suppose if you like this sort of sound, it's impossible not to absolutely love them, whether you understand the lyrics or not. This song goes along extremely well with the narrative of the cd, as it's a very sad song, essentially about the "breaking point" when you realize that you don't mean as much to the person as he/she does to you. The most significant song on the list, both narratively and soundwise, as is also signified by it being one of the only tracks with a title 10 Sufjan Stevens - I Walked Another incredibly sad song, I guess in a playlist like this it's impossible not to include Sufjan Stevens a couple of times. (Really in any playlist) 11 Rogue Wave - Kicking the Heart Out One of the weaker songs on the list, guess I just wanted something slightly unknown that was decent and would fit in well. 12 Dry the River - Weights & measures "I was prepaaa-a-ared to love you, and never expeeee-e-eect anything of you" Well this just had to be in there, besides being a brilliant song by a brilliant band, it has completely over the top lyrics about unrequited love, set in a very pompous and gloriuos sound setting. 13 Losing You (Cyril Hahn Remix) - Solange I think a lot of participants will remember Cyril Hahn for the infamous Say My Name remix Mariah Scary included in his cd last year. This track is very similar (guess Cyril has a thing for the Knowles family), a sort of distorted dark vocal replacing the original, in a dark, repetitive electronic sound setting. It's brilliant and almost as good as the Destiny's Child remix. 14 Phosphorescent - Song for Zula A sort of dark view upon love, and trying to pick yourself up after a rejection, but not really being able to yet, decided that it'd fit perfectly into the compilation. As good as it seems on the first 10 listens, I must however admit that after a while it gets a bit boring. 15 Moi Caprice - Wish You Were Her "Perhaps" If the guy sounds familiar, it's probably because you heard him 10 tracks earlier, or because I included this one in an UP 1½-2 years ago. The last 3 songs are looks into the future, listing different possible scenarios of what is to come in the story. Wish You Were Her (I love the playful wordplay in the title) is about not really being able to move to new pastures, because your relationships are tainted by the fact that you like your old girl so much more than all the other ones. 16 Bright Eyes - It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends "Or?" Another extremely sad song (recurring theme really) about trying to stay friends with a previous lover, and it being an absolutely miserable experience. Sorry about the quality, it's 128 kbit/s, which I hadn't noticed, probably a youtube rip I got from somewhere. As opposed to you, I do quite like it though, always loved songs that build up calmly for ages, into a sudden, loud and dramatic climax. (and activites...) 17 The Floor is Made of Lava - Happy Monday "Maybe?" From the first and slightly unconventional album by The Floor is Made of Lava, the album revolved around trying to pick up girls by being a lying and possibly slightly ego-centric f***er. This one is about picking up a new girl every weekend, and essentially living your life for that. The last part is where they mention Arctic Monkeys, is really just the band playing around and mocking the fact that they may sound slightly like Arctic Monkeys at times. I wanted to include another more positive song after this one, one about finding new love and forgetting your old sorrows and heartbreaks, but wasn't really able to find one of proper quality, which means the album ended up slightly more depressing than I intented to. I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed compilation, I expect fans of upbeat pop would have a hard time with it. Given your review, I'd say you should definitely check out the debut albums from Stoffer & Maskinen and Dry The River, as well as some more of Moi Caprice's songs. Edited May 23, 201312 yr by Horatio
May 23, 201312 yr AHEM Oh FINE THEN 01 - Kinee - Renaisance 02 - V.E.E.N. - Thyreoalis 03 - Sibille Attar - Come Night 04 - Foxygen - San Francisco 05 - Gypsy & The Cat - Bloom 06 - Metric - Synthetica 07 - Blondfire - Where The Kids Are 08 - Chad Valley - My Girl 09 - Claude Violante - For You 10 - Dum Dum Girls - Lord Knows 11 - Mt. Wolf - Life size Ghosts 12 - Stumbleine - The Corner Of Her Eye 13 - The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law 14 - Fallulah - Dried-Out Cities 15 - Little Auk - Wooly Clouds 16 - Mary Epworth - Long Gone 17 - Valentina - Wolves 18 - Tomas Barfod - November Skies (Feat. Nina Kinert) To be honest it's been so long since I made this I can't remember an awful lot about it beyond the fact it's basically a collection of songs I really enjoyed at the time with some kind of vague FLOW given to them. Of course Valentina is now better known as being a Dandy BJSC entry and Fallulah was at one point confirmed as my entry too, but tossed in favour of Dream Of Bombay (clearly not a good choice, but whatever).
May 29, 201312 yr YOU SAID TODAY ON SUNDAY. And 'this week' over three weeks ago. And 'tonight's play' on 18/04. :( KARMA.
May 29, 201312 yr Oh I still need to do this. ONE DAY (One of the tracks still doesn't work). Edited May 29, 201312 yr by Bré
May 29, 201312 yr IT'S EVERYTHING TIME - I CAN HEAR EVERYTHING This is Harve's compilation. This I know due to the fact there is a document of listening notes, with his name as the author! 001 The song from which the compilation derives it's name!! Spoken intro by a familiar sounding American fellow, friendly though... 11-minute opener which I admit had me a bit worried as my attention span is horrific, but the interesting soundscape leading up to 3.30 minutes keeps you intrigued, especially with all of the bursts of spoken vocals and volume levels... and then after that it starts to get FUNKY. The synths come in, the pianos come in, the vocals go on but you know it's going somewhere. When the drums came in, gave it a lot more structure so it made it a lot easier to listen to and understand that it had purpose - I've managed to listen to this track about 4 times and the section from 3.30 to about 6.15(??) always had new little bits to it. LOTS going on which can be intimidating, but in this case, with the use of many different sounds and bytes (then the WONDERFUL Kate Bush-esque vocals after 6.30 or so, as well as the lovely guitar/steel drum-esque solos nearing the end) it just kept ON in your head, not really wanting to switch off for the fear you'll miss another mad minute. Lovely. 8/10 Interlude I An interlude already! I suppose with the length of the first track and its relevance to the CD title, it's only fair the CD breaks itself up at this point. A nice intro that kinda takes inspiration from Cut Copy I guess. Nice, soft, electronic layers. 002 Like 001, this one prides itself on the build up. Beginning like an echo-y live concert held in a sewer, you get little dots before some lovely Aphex Twin / Trentemoller-style percussion starts to itch, before properly unleashing at 1.45. Reminds me a lot of Plaid 'Zeal' in many ways (which I included in my compilation to Cal) due to its attention to sonic detail. Nothing feels out of place, but everything is still beautifully complex. I love that whole detached use of echo & reverb as well... that whole ethereal vibe. And the fact it combines elements of two of my favourite artists of all time does nothing to hurt it either. 8.5/10 003 This one kicks off as if it's going to be LCD Soundsystem with those piano stabs, but then an eerier and more haunting chord progression comes in with synth stabs and apathetic male vocals and you know it's a little bit more sinister than that. Everytime you think it's about to kick off after building and building it seems to bring itself right back down, but it still gives you bursts of great little moments, and like every song on this CD, owes itself to the added sounds to thicken up the sonic layers and give you something to notice everytime you listen. Can't help but stay attentive, considering how progressive it was. 9/10 Interlude II This one is comprised of what sounds like a muffled organ (or some sort of keyboard variant) with some ethereal sharp synth on top, finishing off with the sound of rain. Super super pretty - kind of wish it had the potential to build into a proper track. 004 THE VIOLINS YESSS. Like most so far, this builds up at the beginning with a lot of reverb, but then works itself into some pretty violin lines and then comes out with those echo-ing female vocals and synth pedals to play like a tribute to your synth-pop FAVES. Beautifully familiar. It starts to get into its stride when it layers on the Trust-esque male vocals on top - I'm inclined to think this might be AIR FRANCE with all of the pitch experimentation? And obviously by that comparison you know I lovelovelove. 8.5/10 005 This one is the first track so far to launch right into its purpose. This one sounding like an 80's driving affair that you would blast out of a convertible (and other cliché's along that line!). A bit more 'background noise' than the rest but it still does what it does well. Sounds in places KIND OF similar to 'Everything Is Embarrassing'. 7/10 006 THIS IS DRIVING ME ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. I don't know how many times I've been through this track and I still can't pin down what it is, even though I'm bloody certain I know it. A piece of witch-house which pretty much owes itself to the Alice Glass-style school of vocals (although not as punchy I do have to admit), but it still has that drag element to make it witchier more than electronic. 7/10 007 Oh my god yes @ this. Absolutely TOO FUNKY. That insistent synth riff, the male vocals along with that slam hit percussion just kills. Not much to say on it but it is absolutely god damn wonderful. 9/10 008 PERFECTION!! This is another one that's grossly familiar for some reason, it has this wonderful vocal repetition of "it's what happened" along with seriously catchy "ooh" lines... PS. I googled the lyrics because it was absolutely KILLING me and it turns out it's >> Clams Casino 'I'm God' <<. Heard this because of Harve's chart!! 10/10 009 Teengirl Fantasy / Sharon Funchess 'Dancing In Slow Motion' | this is the only one I can put a name to, even though I am almost CERTAIN it's not the only one I know. This is lovely, and for those that know Light Asylum (which a lot of people in here will) you know the distinctive touch she can add to a song. Lovely prom-night slow-dance material. 7.5/10 Interlude III This one is GREAT. It has this sort of chiptune / game feel, that's droned out - would it be silly to say it's similar to the way Crystal Castles sound has matured from the chiptune days to a more well-rounded and modern sound, but still contains those elements? Probably looking into it took much considering it's only 57 seconds, ha. 010 This is nice. A guitar-ish ballad with lots of distorted effects in the background - really pretty. Very beach-y if that make any sense. Lots of sparkling, euphoric synths help build it along. 8/10 011 OH GOD. BEAUTIFULLLLLL. I can't quite make out the vocals due to the effects and all of the different parts going on, but the layering of harmonies along with the syncopated tribal-esque drum. Kinda sounds like Baths? Absolutely love it though, at 2:27 it is far too short. 10/10 Interlude IV (Underbelly?) This interlude kind of sticks out away from the rest because it has this sort of belting male vocal that reminds me of an indie version of all the BIG female pop singers, so it actually could be a proper song as it has enough elements. I am guessing it's called 'Underbelly' due to that being mentioned twice and it's quite an odd word for emphasis otherwise. It's quirky how it seems to split into an actual interlude apt piece of music at the end... is this a combination of two songs then? 012 This is beautiful. The vocalist has that earthy vibrato in his voice and it has a slight echo on it, as a folky-electronic arrangement swirls around him. The way his voice lifts through before the harmonies come in to compliment it at precise moments gave me goosebumps. I love the string lines as well, they way they floated in and out of consciousness before the light fluttering flute section came in. This kind of orchestral arrangement, and the choral-esque vocals as instruments reminds me of music I studied in high school for some reason! 8/10 013 This one starts off with twinkling piano melodies, but then this cutting saw-synth or guitar line comes in and becomes the catalyst of the song, kinda breaking apart the expectations you have from the intro. The bit that baffled me the most is the distorted screamo section hiding behind these layers after about 5:30, the way it builds with all the different layers stops something that could be quite boring minimalist into something that takes you by surprise section by section. An odd piece, but kind of captivating. 7.5/10 Outro The outro seems to simmer down the aggressive themes of the last few, but with the airy vocals and the pretty guitars it sums up the last section of the CD really well. Lovely listen, not a STANDOUT by any means but the way it keeps itself to itself I have a feeling that wasn't the intention. 7/10 OVERALL: Fantastic compilation! Iintroduced me to a lot of things I didn't know, but still kept to my kind of musical zone so it appealed. I like how it was naturally consistent as well. Blatantly Harve's after the Clams Casino and Air France-esque inclusions! Considering Harve and I cross musical paths a lot, I'm not surprised it's gone down so well, and I'm looking forward to finding out what's what. Sorry for the delay Harve :( Tbf tho I put that down to me being absolutely terrible at both listening to albums in full (and this one I managed 4 times!) and reviewing so I do apologise.
June 21, 201312 yr and as I looked out of the window, for a fleeting second I believed I could crush the sky; First of all let me start by saying that I’m horribly sorry about the delay, must be extremely annoying to not receive a review the first time around, and then wait ages when a second person offers to review it instead. I must say that I do understand why it wasn’t reviewed the first time around, as it’s hard to distinguish the tracks from each other and give them individual reviews. Furthermore, if one is to only read the reviews of the tracks, you’d end up thinking the mix was not all that, even though it is likely far more brilliant than anything else entered in this project. The entire mix is mixed together fairly fluently, and I must say that I’m extremely impressed with the work that has been put into this, as it’s a far more wholesome experience than any mix the rest of us enters. I quite like the story told through the titles, it is not clear precisely what happens, but the mood and overall theme of the story is quite easy to understand, and it ties together with the feel of the tracks very well (particularly at the breaking point in the middle). #1 Stir; flickers Intro, very calm and sort of cinematic instrumental piece with strings. Decent. #2 everyday; you are my first thought Very low key dub with the Ane Trolle's vocals from Moan, must admit it is a bit too minimalistic and somewhat boring. #3 and my second; my third is mine Blends into a still minimalistic dub, although with a bit more going on, and still a female vocal ( could actually still be Ane Trolle, I wouldn't know.) Really good piece. #4 curtains open; light reveals; and as I looked out of the window, for a fleeting second I believed I could crush the sky Starts out as a sort of slow ambient, with M83 samples recurring throughout the track, builds into a more uptempo sort of techno track, yet still with plenty of breaks, a quite dynamic track really (and a quite good one.) #5 her words; they stay with me; always After the end of the last track slowed down, this one speeds up gradually throughout the entire 4 minutes, and contains so much vocal that you might just call it a song. Another very fine track, works very well in the context of the mix, not as well alone. #6 calmness in a crowd; I see nobody but you A very ‘slowish’ low key track with a female vocal repeating “you’re the lucky one”. Very much a night time track, decent as well. #7 faceless; over your left shoulder; for a moment I felt you notice me but; And we pick up the pace again, female vocal once more, track is very indescribable, but not really my cup of tea. I do think a lot of people in here would quite like it though. Track ends off on a monologue by some male vocal. #8 a glimpse of how things could be; slipping way; doors close First track change that’s not entirely seamless. We return to the slow low key night time tracks with female vocal, this one isn’t as interesting as the other ones however, not beautiful enough to justify the lack of dynamics in the track. #9 lost; unaware; And once again the tempo increases a bit (sense a pattern here..), a sort of less polished track with female vocal, some people here would quite likely love it, but it’s not to my taste. #10 I hear my thoughts; they visualise between us Continues in same pace as previously, more electronic music, very suited for night time as well. There’s a new really great female vocal with a sort of longing sound, love the parts with her, but the track is slightly tainted by the vocal from last track reoccurring. This track probably contains some of my favourite parts in the mix, but ultimately is not my favourite track, due to it’s flaws. #11 gentle anticipation; call Starts out slow, I’m almost certain I recognise the female vocal on this one, although I don’t remember the name. The tempo and complexity builds up throughout the track, and together with the fine vocal, it makes for a brilliant piece. #12 f*** it; f*** you; f*** dance I love this change, no vocal at all on this piece, yet the extremely aggressive electronic sound paired with the title gives it such a clear narrative. This is the break in the story, where hope turns into frustration and anger. The track is not entirely fantastic, and does remind me slightly of something I could have made if had spent more time with music programs when I was younger, yet it sounds good and works absolutely brilliantly in the context of the mix (and story). #13 f***ed up;;;;; Continues along the lines of previous tracks, although less good and less interesting, if I was to listen to the tracks separately, this would be the one I’d listen least to. I suspect the semicolons suspect part of the story is skipped, although that may be over interpretation on my part. #14 taxi ride; the lights they travel too close Back to a sort of simple dub, a female vocal starts singing in French halfway through, which works quite well with the initially quite boring electronic music, yet the track never really takes off. #15 flickers; fades A sort of short interlude, entirely instrumental on strings. #16 release; sometimes we have too much time; in fact far more than we could every possibly need The first track with singing the entire way through and electronic backing that only plays a minor role. Luckily it’s a brilliant vocal (female duh...) and this ends up a track that could work quite well on its own. #17 and the more I thought the more I felt the more I rose the less I realise We return to the very low key and slow night time tracks once again, this one works quite well, although ultimately I think I’ll mainly listen to it when I listen to the mix as a whole. #18 and then it happened; it seemed so quick; the ground it bowed; and then it fell Another track that while it is very dynamic and uptempo, ultimately is also a bit simple and sounds like it may have been made by a non-professional. Nonetheless it is quite good. Towards the end it quite clearly blends into “In this shirt” by The Irrepressibles. #19 forever ago; forever ahead In this shirt mixed together with parts of the previous track, obviously it’s impossible not to like this, as the original is so brilliant you’d have to absolutely molest it, for it not to be good. While the track hasn’t been molested, I must also say that I’m unlikely to start listening to this version over the original or Röyksopp’s fantastic remix. #20 sink; out line remains; flickers. And thus we reach the end, as expected we finish as we started, with a piece made purely by strings. It works quite well, and sort of frames the rest of the mix. It’s been a great listening experience, and it really took me quite a few listens to be able to give a sort of coherent review, while also being able to distinguish all the very similar individual pieces from each other. The artwork, which I hope Dandy will link is a sort of dark and somewhat blurry piece of a girl on a couch with what seems like a distorted face. I'm very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts behind the mix Dandy.
June 21, 201312 yr Thanks for posting that, I must admit I had given up on ever hearing what someone thought!!! I'll explain more about what it's supposed to be about later as I'm off out soon but the tracks you were listening to were as follows... although as you realised they don't always begin and end where the tracks on the playlist do... Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson // Degradation Trentemøller // Moan (Radio Slave's Acapella Breakdown Version 2) Massive Attack // Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix) M83 // Reunion (Sei A Remix) Young Galaxy // Pretty Boy Daughter // Youth (Fauxe Remix) The Dø // Too Insistent (Trentemøller Remix) Nuages // Dreams Flume // Holdin' On Ghost Loft // Seconds London Grammar // Metal & Dust DJ Mehdi // Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Remix) DJ Mehdi // Signatune (Alternate Version) Cinema // UV Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson // Journey To The Underworld Valentina // Wolves Wanderhouse // Sugar Yume // Admire The Irrepressibles // In This Shirt (Röyksopp Remix) Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson // On The Road Thought it was cheeky including Lewis' winning BJSC track in some form... and then found it amusing that he went on to enter the track I decided to mix it in with on this compilation!!! As I mentioned, I'll say more about it at some point soon, primarily because I guess the concept was quite weird and I need time to think how to explain it(!) - I can totally understand why it's a tough album to review though as it is quite similar throughout and if you're not keen on the sound then you'd be pretty stuck - plus it's definitely intended to be listened to as an entire piece as some of the individual tracks were included to represent parts of the story rather than necessarily be stand outs in their own merit - thanks for giving it a go though!
June 21, 201312 yr I'm still intending to give my review of it eventually. Don't expect it to be anywhere near as well-written as that one whenever it materialises.
June 21, 201312 yr ermmm that cd sounds AMAZING. i actually put the do - too insistent in mine as well!
June 21, 201312 yr I'm still intending to give my review of it eventually. Don't expect it to be anywhere near as well-written as that one whenever it materialises. It's ok... as I said, I can see why it would be a pain to review. Plus 'Wolves' is one of the more accessible tracks and I know you're not keen on that from BJSC. I had no idea whether to expect you to like it or not when I saw you had it, our tastes are usually quite similar yet I wasn't at all sure you would enjoy it. Maybe appreciate it somehow but perhaps not enjoy? ermmm that cd sounds AMAZING. i actually put the do - too insistent in mine as well! I'm biased but I enjoy it! I loved The Dø track, weird that we both decided to resurrect it for the same swap.
June 21, 201312 yr It was a pain to even get the tracks to work (and track 4 still doesn't) Kinda defeating the point but having a look through that tracklist I see no reason I won't enjoy it. Okay I'm not a fan of 'Wolves' but the rest of what I recognise on there looks fab. I will TRY to get this done some time next week. I'm already way way past the deadline so it's not like it matters that much though! Edited June 21, 201312 yr by Bré
