February 17, 201411 yr I'm thinking of a spin-off when we all send the songs "normally" e.g. with veto framework etc. but THEN after the final list is confirmed, all the entries are randomly swapped with other countries. We'll get all the same songs but from different countries. Could be fun and inspire someone to a different direction in the future. Or a contest when the countries are revealed after the final results.
February 17, 201411 yr I think maybe we should introduce... Veto twice in one contest and banned. Let's not push it. The veto framework is working, what more do you want?
February 17, 201411 yr i'd hate that contest arrs - i think i send all sorts of stuff already but some people REALLY do send some awful stuff.
February 17, 201411 yr Or a contest when the countries are revealed after the final results. Isn't that how UP works?
February 17, 201411 yr Author Supah inspired this month. I think it would help a lot more inspired entries and I don't think I've ever been vetoed twice in the same contest. I think a permaban for being vetoed twice in a month sounds better... We should have a Spin-Off with all those vetoed entries... :kink: I can't think of anything worse. I'm thinking of a spin-off when we all send the songs "normally" e.g. with veto framework etc. but THEN after the final list is confirmed, all the entries are randomly swapped with other countries. We'll get all the same songs but from different countries. Could be fun and inspire someone to a different direction in the future. Or a contest when the countries are revealed after the final results. I'll address your two suggestions separately. 1 - I'm not sure I entirely see the point of this if I'm honest. You'd end up with a contest of normal entries anyway and then have people really struggle to get behind the entry that they 'entered'. They could find something they liked but in theory that would happen anyway and they could be inspired in the course of a normal contest to go in a different direction. 2 - We've actually done this before! Well Technically the country reveal was before the final results. The contest I hosted, BJUSC XXIX "Buzzjack Unknown Song Contest", was the first after the big BJSC break/reset and our first with the veto. We kept the countries anonymous, at Tyron's insistence, so I gave everyone an alias name of a South-East Queensland town/Brisbane Sub-urb/City of Gold Coast Sub-urb. BJSC works better with countries out on display. We get more discussion of tracks that way and people aren't scared of accidentally revealing who they are during voting. Thanks for the suggestions though Arrs! Isn't that how UP works? I think so. Or at least in a similar fashion.
February 17, 201411 yr Author Sorry for the late replies to the below, I did semi acknowledge the first one but I want to give a full reply. Not sure if this has already been mentioned but we should have a spin-off where people send 'funny' songs. And also a spin-off where, in a twist, the loser is the winner :o as in people send songs they think are terrible then people vote for their least favourites. And a dance classics spin-off would be fabbbb!I assume you mean parody songs like 'Venetian Princess - Speidi Free' for funny songs? I'm not sure the bad songs spin-off would work particularly well with the contest's aim of introducing people to great new music. I'm willing to go with it if there is demand for it though. More dance is a good thing! I'd quite like to have a go at this spin-off hosting thing considering I have a very low chance of getting to host one of the monthly BJSCs ^_^ Same here :P You'll both be added to the list!
February 17, 201411 yr More dance is a good thing! You'll both be added to the list! I'm available from late may as that's when my school finishes and I'll have plenty of time then
February 27, 201411 yr For a spin-off how about everybody gets assigned a country at random and they have to send a song from that country i.e. I get assigned France so have to send a song by a French artist (not necessarily a French language song).
February 27, 201411 yr I take it this is where we sign up for the spinoff hosting? In wich case I kindly request I be added to the list (and I unkindly request you let me do my foreign language suggestion, I believe that in the wake of the semi thread it's especially relevant now!)

Love this idea! I believe this type of contest is done on a Eurovision forum I regularly read so I'd love to try it on here too!
February 27, 201411 yr We used to do that on CHC and it was always fun. I got Iceland and Malta the two times it was done, the latter was surprisingly hard to find a good non-Eurovision related song from!
February 27, 201411 yr Author Thanks very much Lex and that's a superb suggestion Adam! Will add you both to our list!
March 6, 201411 yr one thing i would suggest is that when a song is vetoed, the point score is included alongside the targets it hit in the framework, with a small description of why (this information should already be available since you are discussing the entries and their targets anywho) to be sent out alongside the PM informing the person they have been vetoed. it means people can totally understand why the veto went forward, meaning there is less slanging matches in thread of 'omg WHY'
March 6, 201411 yr I think we used to do that for a little while but it didn't stop things from kicking off, but we have no problem trying it again if that's what people want. ^_^
March 6, 201411 yr I'd definately say that would be an improvement to the contest. That's the ony thing I could think of as feedback Edited March 6, 201411 yr by *Tim

(says the person who has only been vetoed once due to sending an entry he knew had about 70 points oops)

Anyway, this is unrelated but any news on the re-opening of the country registration thread as it has been closed for a while now? EDIT: Sorry, I've just read back and realised it is going to be part of the new resources thread. Any news on that? :kink:
April 2, 201411 yr Author It'll be posted when I'm finally happy with it. :) In the meantime, we're hardly crying out for new members so another couple of weeks won't hurt anyone given that we are operating on a 'you can start participating but you must sign up formerly when the new thread opens' basis right now. The original first draft was done in late 2013 and we've altered and reviewed the resources that make it up. Hence the new rules (which I have recently reformatted, and slightly reworded) and veto guidelines. To give you all an idea of what I am doing, this is what is left to be done:Add links to every post - Well over 250 in totalFinish the guide to participatingUpdate the format of the veto frameworkUpdate of the Active countries list with linksFinalise the list of resources to be merged into the CRCFinal review of rules and guidance to ensure all is ok to go and make any updates as requiredCreate an exciting new resource that will remain a secret until the CRC is revealed For example, the Rules have been completely reformatted and made a lot easier to read and understand. It took a while to get the layout and content right. Here is a glimpse of what it now looks like: The Rules of the Buzzjack Song Contest Joining BJSC: The BasicsMembers wishing to join the Buzzjack Song Contest may do so as soon as they join Buzzjack.comFor the first 3 months after joining Buzzjack.com you may only take part in our spin offs. This is a measure aimed at preventing alias countries. After 3 months you may progress to the main contest. The Details To register, please see the post below this one or click here! When registering we require the following information:A name for your nationA capital cityAny other information like languages and flags are also welcomed, but are optional. Please note We take the creation of alias accounts seriously. If it is discovered you have used an alias to enter BJSC as a second nation, you will be permanently banned from BJSC. If you are discovered to have an alias on Buzzjack.com, but have not attempted to register for BJSC with it, you will receive a 6 month suspension from BJSC that will commence immediately following your site suspension. There is a lot of work being done on this everyday but my CIMA qualification will always take precedence. If I work hard I will only need to sit two blocks of exams, one in May and another in November. Something that would be an incredible accomplishment. That demands a lot of hard work in addition to working full time so where I would have been able to get 3hrs of coding and writing in, I'm now only getting 30mins. This is my current revision distraction and it will be up soon. I just want it to match what I have in my head. (The Spin-off CRC will be updated and reformatted to match the main CRC sometime in May/June after my exams)
