Is it worth trialling a 6 day confirmation window (ex Sun - Fri/whenever it's planned) with vetoes announced and reconfirmed on the Saturday/Sunday morning with semi's taking place Sunday night? (and if they've not reconfirmed by Sun Morning at latest then they're not in the contest?)

I think we have too many pinned threads here tbh (now that they take up way more space on the new site oop), have been planning to have a look at consolidating them a bit.

Couldn't the two threads for the "rules of BJSC" and "veto framework" be merged into one pinned thread instead seeing as they basically explain the same thing in slightly different ways? That would save one pinned thread spot.

I also feel that the BJSC World Maps thread could be combined somewhat with the registration thread if it was pinned to the opening few posts and then any updates can be shared as @diva thin muffin sees fit. Then part of the registration for new nations in the future could include to pick their plot of land.

Just a thought.

OK - here is my idea: I personally find it somehow more exciting if the identities are revealed not from the beginning. Couldn't be the semi's masked and the identities of the nations revealed when the results of the Semi's are revealed. In this way people start listen with an open ear and might not get somehow biased, while in the grand final everything is as always.

This isn't a reflection on Qween as a host by the way (fab graphics and the layout and pacing of the contest threads has been spot on for me), I appreciate we all have different schedules and I'm not sure how I'd manage a hosting situation at all! I voted on time, so I'm also assuming that final reminders weren't sent, as Qween stated reminders wouldn't be sent during the semi...

It's a sore subject for me, I have ADHD and have been caught out by a lack of a reminder in far more affecting ways than not being able to enter an edition of a song contest.

But I can also appreciate that part of the agreement to participate is to vote on time... However, especially after seeing the number of people that said they struggled to get into the site and/or needed to remind themselves of the deadline, could I maybe suggest that if you forget to vote on time (and reminders weren't sent) you have an automatic penalty applied to your SF of the next edition or something? Or maybe that reminders are sent by a mod based on the list of received votes?

If that makes any sense?

Reminders have never been a given so can't use any lack of them as an excuse. I do feel a bit sorry for this specific contest as the entire site was pretty much unusable for the entire Easter weekend but precedent is precedent.

Also having an automatic penalty in the next contest is a big a deterrent as a ban anyway imo.

I've been out for a while, so I don't know what the usual is!

I'm not actually impacted this time, I just think that reminders add a little inclusivity to those that struggle without them!

The factor of the deterrent wasn't really what I was getting at: I was more suggesting an alternative that might (as an ADHDer) take into account timeblindness, still give an incentive to vote, but also prevent people being forced to miss out on the next contest (and a potential gem of a discovery for everyone else) because of it!

If you're able to participate next time round with a 15% (or whatever) penalty in the semi, then at least you can still participate and enter whatever gem of a song you have, if you want to - it will just be harder to qualify! (with that added to any deduction you get in the semi for late/non voting)

I would say the deduction should only apply to the contest immediately following the one they forgot to vote in, that way the country could decide to take the hit of a penalty, or sit out a contest (as they would if they were banned anyway).

Completely just a thought based on my own experiences elsewhere and observations here!
