I fear for Fandango's place in the top 40 on Sunday now thanks to that 2nd Margaret Thatcher song, it was #37 on the Friday update so hopefully it will at least stay there.

Notsensibles - I'm in Love With Margaret Thatcher  #6

Imagine if this song and Ding Dong! are the top 2 on iTunes by 6pm on Sunday

This other song raises more issues for the media - they could not justity playing the Notsensibles while banning DDTWID - that would create even more controversy!

You do all realise that the rights of Ding Dong are owned by Rupbert Murdoch?

20th Century Fox, which are owned by News Corp, own the rights to MGM's library.

The copyright on 'Ding-Dong!' has expired has it not?

Looks like Eamon will definitely be back in the top 100 this week then.

Slaying.

Imagine if Ding Dong gets to #1 tomorrow! I can't imagine how Radio 1 are going to announce it. "This week's contenders: ummm errmmmmmmm". Or: "It's all between Duke Dumont and........" "Okay, here is your #1!" - and playing 4-5 seconds of it!

It won't be done like that.

The intention is to play the 4-5 second clip in the context of a news story earlier in the show, which explains why the song will appear in the chart.

Then they will just announce it at whatever position it ends up in and not play it at all at that point.

Look like the MV will be out in less than 3 hours.

^^ So Psy could be next weeks no1 then, the current position will only get him top 50 maybe!

Caro Emerald at 81 :D

Coming for that top 100 smash

I don't think he get a #1, Rudimental are pretty high on pre-orders I should imagine Rudimental will get the #1, top 5 the most with Ding Dong, Notsensibles and Will.i.am in the mix, Duke Dumont could fall down to #5 or #6, its a busy week, anything could happen.

Duke Dumont is gaining on #1 rapidly again (up from 0.6399 to 0.7098 in 2 hours), think that'll secure him at #1 although 'Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead' will surely be #2.
Has the new Snoop Lion/Miley Cyrus track landed on itunes yet, haven't looked but I see it's streaming on napster, wonder how that will do on next weeks charts

I hope this sticks around and stays top 40 for it to officially get there again next week!

Absolute classic, my favourite son by Nelly, much better than the overrated Hot In Herre. Also noticed R Kelly's Ignition Remix is back up to #29, I wonder if it can scrape Top 40 tomorrow?

I love not having time to look at iTunes for a day or two, you find lots of surprises :D

You see, this is where things get really confusing, particularly when it involves a song used in a film.

The rights to the actual recording of the song are in the public domain, as this expires after 50 years.

The song itself is not in the public domain, and won't be until 2061, 75 years after the death of the last songwriter.

As for the audio/visual synch (aka the video of the song), that is still copyrighted, as it's taken from the film, and probably won't enter the public domain in our lifetime.

So legally speaking, you could upload a copy of the song to iTunes yourself and make money on it, as long as you pay the songwriters. Something the anti-Thatcher campaign should have considered.

They have - just checked and the 'British Collective' version at #60 currently was added to iTunes on 9 April 2013 so is obviously a new recording in response to Thatcher's death. I had a feeling that's what that was but didn't bother checking.

Notsensibles are  to #8 already, doubt they'll contend for the official top 10 next week unless the funeral boosts it signifcantly.

Don't know how recent this is but Duke Dumont has increased from 0.6399 to 0.8278 in the last two updates.

Agreed with 'Hot In Herre' being overrated. (Although I still really like it). But 'Ride Wit Me' is probably the first Hip-Hop song that I fully got into and is the song that got me appreciating that genre. It's flawless.

'Ignition Remix' is another classic! So I'm pleased to see it doing well!

 23. PSY - Gentleman

Possibly top 10 by the end of the day, the song and video are both very good despite it being a complete Gangnam Style rip-off
