Wow! 'Paparazzi' managed to come 2nd (it won't beat BR, pretty sure of it :P)? Amazing. 'Telephone' IS too high, but I still really like it. 'Poker Face' is at least culturally iconic. That deserved to finish third over 'Telephone'. But I'm not mad because her best song is top 2 (with my 4th favourite being in there with it)!

Don't get too excited there! Didn't count you twice in the actual voting. I usually double check your rates anyway because they're so against the norm.

!!!

I try my best.

Only just seen this thread but if I could have voted I would have put Second Time Around at #1  (that's if unreleased demos were allowed to be voted for?)

Missing out on the glory by quite a margin, but still managing to fend off tough competition, comes this little diamond gem from Gaga’s debut. A marked shift from the singles that came before it, Paparazzi is a silky, smooth number with an anthemic hook. Perfectly merging the themes of the album, fame and all its demeanours, it was also one of the highlights of The Monster Ball, as the Paparazzi was manifested as a humoungous Fame Monster that haunted Gaga. The multiple meanings for the song have allowed it to be one of her most accessible, attracting very little hate and a whole lot of love, including here which explains it's comfortable silver placing.

The song also came packaged with the first major video project that Gaga was involved with, directed by Jonas Åkerlund and starring the sizzlingly HAWT Alexander Skarsgård; it remains one of her very best to this date. Gaga continued with the tragedy of fame in various live performances of the song, most significantly at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (a real fan favourite performance), where she descends into complete mania before being hung and left for dead. Aided with these performances and the killer music video the song performed well around the world, continuing on the album's success. The message of the song rings clear even now; we all have our stars that we'd follow to the death.

Was there ever any other option for the #1 Gaga song? Mustering up a hefty average, and accumulating the most TOP tier votes, Bad Romance writes it's name in stone at the top of the leader board. From the second those ‘Gagaorian’ chants kick in, it’s time to shut it all down and pay attention. Extravagent, over-the-top, fierce, eargasmic and monstrous, this is Gaga to a TEE. The song premiered to the world in early October at the end of Alexander McQueen’s fashion week and released a few weeks later, after which it subsequently became yet another global smash for the ever-present royal Lady. Inspired by Gaga’s Fear of Love, the song is an anti-Valentine anthem for the ages as it soars to dizzying heights, merging Hitchcock with fashion and repulsion with passion.

Critically the song was praised universally and went on to (yet again) break records across the globe, with particular emphasis on the music video that accompanied the song, as it set a new bar for the Youtube age, accumulating unprecedented numbers of views at the time. The video was nominated for a record 10 MTV Music Video Awards, winning 7 of them and becoming the most awarded video by a female artist. Gaga's raw vocals have never sounded so open and her angst just oozes throughout. An incredibly brave move from the Haus, it all paid off as it became one of her biggest singles (despite being kept off the #1 in the US by Ke$ha), and followed on from Just Dance and Poker Face as it shot up the all-time greatest sellers list. A song that fully lives up it's hype, success and placing here. Will Gaga ever be able to top it?

Deserving #1? Shocked!? Anyway. I'm off for dip in the Bath Haus of Gaga. Bye x

EXCITEMENT.

Paparazzi is so bland and boring, I REALLY hope that it doesn't win. :(

Oh, that was a brilliant surprise! :D Bad Romance is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Bad Romance is a deserved winner even though it was obvious :D Paparazzi 2nd REALLY Buzzjack? One of her blandest songs to date, it's listenable but goes nowhere for me.

I was actually left feeling a bit scarred/visually violated from watching the VMA performance of "Paparazzi", but I can't deny that its actual music video is by far her best! The song was my favourite of hers too for a long while, but now I'd only rank it third or fourth, behind "Bad Romance" (1st) and "Poker Face" and "The Edge Of Glory".

Fantastic winner, despite being obvious from the start. Thanks for doing this, Bal - it was worth the wait :P Fantastic commentaries too :D

Bad Romance is undoubtedly my most favourite song of all time. The video, the song and just everything in it screams perfection so thank goodness it came out #1 in this rate!

Paparazzi negativity is not allowed.

'Paparazzi - brilliant song and her best video by a country mile.

'Bad Romance' definitely defined the second half of 2009 for me, she really NEEDS another song like this to keep her at the top of her game.
