Yeah I agree.

 

Echo is just an incredible cohesive album and, besides 'Outta My Head' not fitting in with the rest of the sound, it just flows perfectly. Such a brilliant album on a vocal level as well as a musical and lyrical level. I continue to resent the fact that millions of people worldwide only know of Spirit when in my opinion, it lacks any sort of real identity and emotion. Sure it's a great vocal album ('Homeless', 'Here I Am', 'Bleeding Love') and it is incredibly summery, but it lacks credibility when you acknowledge the fact that Leona turned to her chosen style of music with Echo. I don't think Leona ever wanted to go in the Mariah Carey/Whitney direction. It was all Simon's idea to market her that way and rake in the cash. Glassheart is also very underrated although doesn't flow as much as Echo. However, it's definitely her most diverse and experimental offering and, again there's far more substance and personality in the tracks (especially 'Come Alive', 'Fireflies', 'I To You', 'Shake You Up', 'Glassheart') than what is on Spirit.

Stylistically Echo and Spirit are almost identical, except Echo has MUCH, MUCH stronger songs and overall is far more cohesive.

While I also loved her vocal delivery on Spirit on a technical level, I'm the opposite in terms of feeling "cold". The vocals on Spirit seem too polished and lacked any genuine emotion while I feel on Echo there are so many "emotional vocal moments" such as in 'Happy', 'Can't Breathe', the end of 'Brave', 'Don't Let Me Down', obviously 'Broken' and even 'Outta My Head' on the chorus. :lol:
