November 13, 201311 yr I've not heard anyone suggest a more visually stunning film after watching this.
November 13, 201311 yr I only went to see this because my friends decided to go, I didn't see the fuss. HOWEVER, it had me on tenterhooks the whole time. It is so TENSE. Obviously visually amazing too - one of the only films I've seen which truly deserves to be shot in 3D.
November 13, 201311 yr intelligent realistic powerful movie. Sandra Bullock: some scenes with George and that's it - she IS the movie. There aren't many films with just one lead actor, and one supporting, and that's it (bar some audio actors). She won't get an academy award cos it's sci-fi in the literal sense of the word: a logical extrapolation of what might happen actually, as opposed to fantasy sci-fi (which most sci-fi movies are, as in could never happen in any scientific sense). Deserves awards aplenty though all round. It's easily better than that beautifully made (but insubstantial) silent movie Best Movie oscar winner....
November 14, 201311 yr I saw this a few days ago and it's hands down one of the best films I've ever seen. The visuals were spectacular and if you ever need a representative for why 3D films were made, this should be used. Sandra Bullock was mind blowing. Such a brilliant film.
November 17, 201311 yr I saw this the other day, didn't think it would be my kind of film, only saw it mainly because Sandra Bullock was in it..but what an awesome film well worth the hype!
November 17, 201311 yr Haha I've never personally gone to the cinemas on my own but there are many people at the screening who are watching it alone and it doesn't seem to bother them. Gravity is a great movie, the 3d is actually incredible, but the story Line is a bit depressing :P great acting though and very scientific which only makes me feel that this could actually happen
November 17, 201311 yr Thoroughly deserving of the hype! It's the second film (after 'Life of Pi') that i appreciate needs to be seen in 3D to fully realise. I'm usually quite against it but this was beautifully shot and paced and the gloss actually helped me enjoy it a lot more. Wasn't all just flashy show either, and i think it will definitely go down as a bit of a classic decades from now. I was genuinely close to leaving for a short while after the first 10 minutes though because i was facing a bad mix of motion sickness/vertigo
November 20, 201311 yr I've heard some mixed reviews of this, apparently the story doesn't really hold up the more you think about it. But the trailer for it looks so beautiful that I'm okay with it. Weirdly enough, everything you said here could apply to Moon from a few years ago with Sam Rockwell and directed by Duncan Jones (Bowie's son). The best sci fi film I've seen in maybe 10 years. If you haven't seen it, it might be up your street.
November 21, 201311 yr So the short that accompanies this film is just a little bit stunning. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/grav...e-sandra-657919 The last shot literally JUST before/during the credits WOW.

The friend who I went to see it with was really disappointed: she heard the 2001 comparisons and expected it to have, uh, a deep meaning. I loved it because of its technical prowess and how visually stunning it was, but I guess a valid criticism is that it pushes the boundaries of technology for the sake of pushing the boundaries of technology. I couldn't give it any less than 10/10 though - for what it tries to do, which is look f***ing incredible, it beats every other film I've seen. So intense too.
November 22, 201311 yr I watched this movie at cinema three days ago..It's one of the best films in this year. Probably the best because i like "La Vie d'Adele and Blue Jasmine too!!! Great acting from Sandra Bullock. The part of photography is fantastic. The sound effect and the soundtrack are awesome. Alfonso Cuaron is genius.. p.s Watch this movie only 3D..It's amazing movie!!!
November 23, 201311 yr This succeeded in many aspects. The visuals were great (although personally I prefer "Life of Pi" when it comes to that), there was tension right up until the end and the use of sudden silences was fantastic. I loved the ending, the final five or ten minutes really sold me. However, there are a fair few films this year where I had a lot more general enjoyment even if they weren't anywhere near the same level technologically. The feel on DVD wouldn't be anywhere near as good but in the darkness of a cinema, great.
November 24, 201311 yr this was GOOD. i wasn't particularly blown away by any parts, but it was a very enjoyable film nonetheless. melancholia and the tree of life were certainly more visually stunning for me.

January 2, 201411 yr So finally saw this last night, it really is totally worthy of all the hype. I was absolutely hooked from about 2 minutes in and Sandra was bloody brilliant for the latter half. The music in the final scene had me tearing up too, I've seen a few people criticise it for being unrealistic and too 'Hollywood' and whilst it probably IS beyond the realms of possibility (given the damage to the pod before and during her descent) it couldn't really have ended any other way. Visually absolutely an 11/10, much like Life Of Pi it pushes the boundaries of what is possible and actually makes it work, both visually AND in terms of feeling like part of the story rather than just looking good for the sake of it. So yeah 10/10, it's not QUITE flawless, but really any issues I have aren't big enough to stop it being an incredible film.
January 4, 201411 yr Yeah, just saw this as well and it was incredible. A bit unlikely that one would be SO lucky SO many times though haha.
January 4, 201411 yr i agree brilliant movie! I also thought it was unlikely how lucky she was but the realism and SFX were amazing I could feel myself willing her on :D I only saw the 2D version, thinking the 3D might have been even better!
January 4, 201411 yr I think it did a decent job of keeping it fairly realistic, if you have to ask the question (as I did once or twice) 'is that possible?' then they've done a good enough job.
January 4, 201411 yr Yeah, just saw this as well and it was incredible. A bit unlikely that one would be SO lucky SO many times though haha. Obviously she got all the luck in the family, given how her child died from just falling over Edited January 4, 201411 yr by Davidson
January 19, 201411 yr melancholia and the tree of life were certainly more visually stunning for me. this tbh! Just watched this one, very very good. Exceptionally enthralling for a movie in the nowhereness of space orbit. Sandra was phenomenal. Solid 10.
