Posted May 11, 201312 yr http://cdn.doandroidsdance.com/assets/2013/03/daft-punk-random-access-memories-cover.jpg So, we all know where this is going to peak, but how much is Random Access Memories going to sell in its first week? I 100% think that it's going to sell more than 50k in its first week, and you never know if it's going to sell 400k in its first week or not judging by the phenomenal success of Get Lucky, even if I would be extremely shocked if that did happen. You can begin predicting now! :D Edited May 11, 201312 yr by Griff
May 11, 201312 yr It's difficult to decide considering it's a dance album. I can't think of an example of one which has had really great first week sales; in fact the only big seller for a dance album overall that I can think of is Moby's Play, though this climbed to it's peak instead of having massive opening sales. It does seem incredibly likely that it is going to pass at least 100k considering how well it has done on pre-orders, but I feel anything above 200k is too much. I'm going to say 126k-150k.

May 11, 201312 yr Get Lucky has done really well, played it at a disco last night several times & the dancefloor went bonkers. Anyway back to the topic in hand, considering it's been Top 20 on itunes pre-order for the past month, I'd say between 126-150k. I maybe over estimating it considering the poor album sales we seem to have at the moment, but it's bound to do very well regardless. Anyone know how much Discovery sold in it's first week?
May 11, 201312 yr in fact the only big seller for a dance album overall that I can think of is Moby's Play, 18 Months, Nothing But The Beat and No More Idols have sold well in recent times. I'm going to say 101-125k purely because of how bad album sales are, but 126k+ won't be a complete shock but still great.
May 11, 201312 yr I'm going to vote for 176-200k. I've got a feeling that the success of this album will cause a shock and will be widely underestimated by a lot of people, just like Get Lucky was.
May 11, 201312 yr 18 Months, Nothing But The Beat and No More Idols have sold well in recent times. How on EARTH did I forget those! :drama:
May 11, 201312 yr Considering this album's success will be based almost entirely on one big hit, anything over 100k would be nothing short of astounding (not that 'Get Lucky' itself hasn't had success that could be described as astounding), so I've voted 51-75k. The pre-orders are fantastic but they're not spectacular, to my eyes.

Even though Daft Punk are traditionally a dance act, I really don't think 'Get Lucky' is a dance song at all  I'm not saying that just to be pedantic, but my point is that it's appealing to much more than just dance music fans imo, which is why I see this album being a big seller and much bigger than their other albums. 100k+ is pretty much a given I think. I don't see how it could possibly come in below Justin Timberlake's first-week sales, because it's performed much better on iTunes preorders than that already (and that's even before the big spike in pre-orders that all albums get in the week before release). I'll say 175k, I think even 200k is not out of the question (though I did say that about Michael Buble too). Edited May 11, 201312 yr by Danny

It's one of the biggest hyped comebacks ever, it's practically guaranteed to sell over 100k whether you like Daft Punk or not.
May 11, 201312 yr Trying to be realistic here, I'd say 101-125k. People just don't buy albums like they used to so it's difficult to see this selling bucketloads.
May 11, 201312 yr It reached a peak of #2 on the iTunes Album Chart, which is the highest I remember a pre-order getting. MDNA went #1 and was by an artist with a huge physical fanbase yet only sold 75k or so, but you're right that #2 is pretty amazing so I'll bump up to 100k or so. Are you being serious? It's one of the biggest hyped comebacks ever, it's practically guaranteed to sell over 100k whether you like Daft Punk or not. Hyped yes but they're selling off general public interest alone, with barely any previous fanbase (their last album could barely cross Silver). I like Daft Punk, but I wish you wouldn't assume someone being a tad more negative than everyone else is a hater.
May 11, 201312 yr I really don't see this selling more than 100K first week. I think people are over estimating it.

It's not your typical dance song, no - it is hugely R&B - but I guess if people are aware of Daft Punk, i.e 'One More Time', 'Around the World' or 'Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster' (or whatever it is called), then they might not be as willing to buy the album based on one song which isn't totally dance. Also, if people have "tried before they buy" and found that despite 'Get Lucky' not being properly dance, the rest of the album is, then they may not be as inclined to buy it (instead just cherry-pick). Disclaimer: I haven't actually listened to the album yet so I don't know whether or not the album is predominately dance or not, it's just an assumption. :P
May 11, 201312 yr I'll think between 76k to 100k, it could be less than 76k, just because the single is doing well, doesn't mean the album will follow through.
May 11, 201312 yr I think it'll clear 200k. Unchartered waters. Mind you, I thought Skyfall could sell 400k in 2 days.
May 11, 201312 yr "How many sales will it sell in its first week?" You don't sell sales! But to answer the question, I think 100,000 - 125,000. It's difficult to predict though, but the single has been huge. Even though album sales are low, I think they could pass 100,000 first week.
May 11, 201312 yr Well, did anyone expect their comeback to sell 150k+ for two weeks straight? I think its safe to assume that they are capable of surpassing expectation. I'm sure this will go over 100k, but probably not too far past the mark if only because of the quite poor sales. It is worth noting that Daft Punk, despite their genre, aren't exactly one of those acts that sells singles by the bucketload but not much albums, they've never had a number 1 album before ditto a massive selling single prior to this, they had a fairly consistant correlation between albums and singles, so its not hard to see that continuing with this album.
