August 13, 201410 yr 'Deep Breath' trailer: rAyng4TNFdM  Looking forward to this and I'm glad it's going to be on at a decent time too, starting at 7:50pm. Hope they keep it at that time and not change it every week for no reason what so ever like they have done with previous seasons. It's a pain in the neck when it's on at 7pm one week, 6:30pm the next week, 7:20pm the next week, etc.....
August 16, 201410 yr Oh dear, all set on earth and stand-alone episodes, that sounds awful. Nu WHo is based on Buffy and, like Buffy, it has awful stand-alone episodes. Sounds completely irrelevant.
August 17, 201410 yr Author Reports yesterday seem to confirm that this will be Clara's last series, with her set to depart in the Christmas episode :( I hope she isn't killed off at the very least.
August 17, 201410 yr From The Mirror Doctor Who’s companion Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to leave the hit BBC show. The actress, 28, is believed to be quitting her role as the Time Lord’s assistant in a sensational Christmas storyline. Her exit could bring an end to her 18 months as Clara Oswald, creating a vacancy for another sidekick to star alongside new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi. Yesterday a source said: “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out. “By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.” www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-whos-jenna-louise-coleman-quits-4061757#ixzz3Aax7hNog Follow us: @dailymirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook ========== Seems to be true :( Bring on Anna Friel please. :D
August 17, 201410 yr Yes! Expected it to be her final series really. Now let's have a companion who stands out a bit more. “By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. No she wouldn't. It's about the normal length of time for a companion.
August 17, 201410 yr Wow what a bit companion. She has left no mark in the show and has been quite beige to be honest. She's more Marta than Rory/ Amy or Rose. But like I said, it sounds the pits if it's a series of stand-alones set on earth! Although ... wait, wasn't that series 1, by a Texan country mile the best, too?

It's about the normal length of time for a companion. I also expected it to be her last. That's the fifth female companion gone in 8 years  (Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, Clara) I think the longest was in the Tom Baker era.
August 17, 201410 yr I also expected it to be her last. That's the fifth female companion gone in 8 years  (Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, Clara) I think the longest was in the Tom Baker era. 9. If we are to expect a lot of character development for Clara in series 8 (Danny Pink, relationship with the Doctor, Coal Hill, etc.) I'd assume it will be the right time for her to leave by the time we do reach the Christmas special. I would however prefer a few episodes with Capaldi travelling alone for a while before a new companion comes in. It's not going to be easy to fill Clara's boots, IMO. By far my favourite of the companions since 2005. If she were to leave in the Christmas special though: Rose - March 2005 to July 2006 (1 year, 4 months) Martha - March 2007 to June 2007 (3 months) Donna - April 2008 to July 2008 (3 months) Amy - April 2010 to September 2012 (2 years, 5 months) Clara - September 2012 to December 2014 (2 years, 3 months)
August 17, 201410 yr I would sort companion length by number of episodes rather than years since recent ones would have an advantage with all these split series and long waits. Clara desperately needs development in this series. Jenna Coleman is a great actress but the writing last year was pretty poor and Clara did come across as not very developed. It started well with her backstory but there were too many episodes of 'what is special about Clara?' Mystery which has been done with almost every companion of the last 10 years. Thank goodness the answer was nothing.
August 17, 201410 yr So was it her decision to leave or the Who team wanted a change? Probably a mixture of both. August 17, 201410 yr Yeah the character is so bland. Glad Rose has more episodes than her. I'd rank them in terms of episodes too. They should bring back Donna!
August 17, 201410 yr And it's not just Clara either. The whole series was poor on the whole last year. I feel Matt Smith was an amazing Doctor who was often let down with poor scripts. The Christmas one says it all. Lots of action early on and then episodes slow down in the middle and nothing happens except the Doctor monologing about time or whatever. Then a speedy resolution that often involves singing or 'love'. The misunderstood villain thing worked great in 'Dalek' but it's been overdone to death since. I want a villain that's actually a badass.

August 17, 201410 yr 'The Rings of Akhaten' does not account for most episodes. There was singing in the Ice Warrior episode too. Jesus, taking everything literally and apparently I always get worked up.
August 17, 201410 yr I kind of feel that Clara has had her time already. Aside from the 'why are there so many of her through time' aspect, which is now over, she has nothing to offer. Like others have said nothing against the actress and it's true that season 7 is probably the worst since the relaunch, although the final three episodes redeemed it somewhat. I just can't see what she is going to offer moving forward, aside from the 'I don't know who you are' angle with The Doctor, which lets face will only allow Capaldi to shine. In terms of companion length I've always felt it's largely accepted that number of stories whilst travelling with The Doctor is the true reflection, which I believe makes it Amy Pond with 34. If you prefer to go by number of episodes then it becomes Jamie McCrimmon. If you go by time spent with The Doctor then at 300 years or so it becomes Handles and nobody wants that (assuming you accept the 1 story companion argument) Edited August 17, 201410 yr by Severin
