June 1, 201312 yr I have really come round to him and he's done some incredible performances, but I do think its good for change. He also never QUITE managed to get up to the standard of David Tennant either. It would be nice to maybe have a doctor that's less...'quirky' if you know what I mean. I found Matt did come across as quite similar to David sometimes, and it would be good if we got a different style.
June 1, 201312 yr I do agree that it would be good to have someone noticeably different after Matt. Though I've long found him to be superior to Tennant, who was very good at certain things like intense emotion but I found him quite lacking in the more run of the mill stuff which Matt does sublimely.
June 1, 201312 yr David > Chris (so underrated ) > Matt All three gave fantastic performances throughout their time, though, but I just find Matt's approach, and some of the stories he has been given quite irking at times. He's obviously very good in the role, but he's just a bit :manson:, even if it's not always his fault - the childish and humorous scripts shouldn't really match the mature character that he often delivers when writers give him those opportunities. I'm hoping for someone just as young as Matt, better looking (:kink:), and as said above, somebody with a different style to him.
June 1, 201312 yr I think the antithesis between the 'old' Doctor and 'young' actor is brilliant, an issue I had with the latter few Tennant stories was how WEARY he had become and how he was always on the verge of being crushed by having to carry the entire world/universe on his shoulders. That's not what I want the Doctor to be about and it was nice to see Matt (or rather the writers) try to bring something lighthearted back to it all. It's obviously not perfect though and the Doctor is obviously a very complex character and at times they did overdo the joviality without adequately accounting for the duality of his personality, but The Name Of The Doctor more than made up for a season somewhat lacking in decent characterisation. At least for me anyway. As for Eccleston, well he was fine and dandy really, but pretty forgettable next to both Matt and David.
June 2, 201312 yr I actually thought Matt Smith was a darker Doctor than Tennant, but I guess that's just me. I'd love Richard Ayoade to be the new Doctor, but I guess they'll go for someone who isn't a household name like the last two, and potentially someone older than Matt Smith.

I will wholeheartedly support that nomination for Richard Ayoade! That would shake it up a bit... Sorry Matt's going though, I still think it seems one season too early, ah well, been there before eh....
June 2, 201312 yr I saw this coming I love to see Sean Pertwee in the role but its not going to happen is it. I wouldn't rule out Russell Tovey as well, apparently Matt Smith originally beat him for the Dr. role
June 2, 201312 yr Do you remember how long before The End of Time we knew 11 would be Matt Smith? I think it was a year beforehand because there was a special episode of Doctor Who Confidential (RIP :() on in January.
June 2, 201312 yr Doctor Who Magazine first reported that Matt Smith would be the 11th Doctor in January 2009 (a year before he took over from David Tennant), so if this new Doctor is to start in August 2014, as rumours have suggested, then I think Moffat will have already held auditions for the new actor, and they will already be cast - and we'll be hearing about who it is soon. I personally have nothing against the next Doctor being female (which is the first 'generic rumour' to come from the newspapers every time a Doctor regenerates), but if it were to happen I think they'd need to have the same amount of energy, charisma and enthusiasm as a character like River Song. Somebody I wouldn't mind seeing in the role is Lara Pulver. But in terms of males taking over the role, I think the age of the actor should remain the same as Matt - possibly someone a bit more mature (the show needs maturity, as opposed to somebody with a very childish attitude, just so they can cater for the children watching) - somebody like Max Irons, or as has been said, somebody who is not a household name. Rumours have already suggested that Ben Daniels has been cast, but I am hoping that is false.
June 2, 201312 yr Author I'm actually really upset that Matt's leaving! :( I knew that the Doctor would be recast within the year, but they've left it far too late to announce that he's leaving, meaning he'll only actually have the Christmas special as his swansong, with the 50th anniversary special dedicated to the whole show. I'd love Idris Elba to play the next Doctor, but I also think they'll go for a lower-profile actor (no idea who though!)
June 2, 201312 yr Bill Nighy would be fab although my ultimate preference still remains Richard O'Brien. I think both Tennant and Smith suffered ever so slightly from being physically a bit too young for the role and characterised as a bit too wacky. For younger actors I'd be ok with Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddlestone, all of whom have been given odds
June 2, 201312 yr I bloody well hope it isn't Idris Elba, that would really make me stop watching. 100% agree there.
June 2, 201312 yr Is Idris Elba a serious candidate? That would make me START watching this show if he became the next doctor. Love him.
June 2, 201312 yr Most likely new Doctors (Ladbrokes odds) 3/1 Rory Kinnear 4/1 David Harewood 5/1 Ben Whishaw 6/1 Benedict Cumberbatch (With Sherlock and other film commitments, I can't see Benedict taking it on) 7/1 Harry Lloyd 8/1 Derek Jacobi (hmm... I don't think so) 10/1 Alex Jennings 16/1 Tom Hiddleston (oooh... not a bad choice) 20/1 Helen Mirren 20/1 Peter Capaldi 20/1 David Tennant 20/1 David Walliams 25/1 Tim Wright 25/1 Richard Armitage 25/1 Daniel Radcliffe 33/1 Tony Head 33/1 Miranda Hart 33/1 Hugh Lawrie 50/1 Bill Bailey Also Colin Morgan (Merlin) has been thrown in the mix
June 2, 201312 yr I don't know why Miranda has been predicted, because Danny Cohen has said that whilst he is in charge at the BBC she will never be allowed to appear on Doctor Who, so in such a major role is ridiculous to have odds on. And I doubt Helen Mirren would be up for such a demanding role, either. Rorry Kinnear, though... No.

Most likely to be a youngish unknown, it's quite a gruelling schedule...?
