This may have been a topic before but what songs do you expect might become hits again in the future or peak higher than their original peak? I know it's completely subjective and often influenced by TV shows/adverts but even so some songs do seem like they haven't yet reached their full potential in the chart when you listen to them

Red by Daniel Merriweather is one song I'd expect to become a hit again in the future. It just sounds like it should be a bigger hit than it was.

Also, The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore by James Morrison

I keep hoping Cherry Ghost could have a hit with People Help The People instead of Birdy but I don't think that'll happen now

Oh and fingers crossed for Euphoria by Loreen this time next week!! Should have been as big as Spectrum I'm sure you'll agree!!

I've read that she won't be performing Euphoria on Eurovision, so unfortunately she has missed out on possibly getting a big iTunes boost :(

That could be huge.

In terms of benefitting from talent shows such as TXF/BGT/TV I'd go with songs like:

Keisha White - The Weakness In Me (similar to 'Ordinary People')

Stevie Wonder - Redemption Song (the key-change is made for an Alexandra/Leona type XF performance)

In terms of 59p reduction:

Daniel Powter - Bad Day

Christina Aguilera feat. Redman - Dirrty (don't know if this has ever been reduced?)

'Thinkin' Bout You' and 'Bad Religion' by Frank Ocean always will have the potential to do well with talent show coverage.

Christina Aguilera feat. Redman - Dirrty (don't know if this has ever been reduced?)

It was in the charts in February this year, not sure whether that was due to a price reduction. I usually find it quite high in the iTunes LivePopBars.

Lonestar - Amazed

Can't believe it never made the top 20! Would do with a high profile reality TV performance.

Chris Brown's Superhuman and Damien Rice's 9 Crimes have to make it some day. :(

Also, Jose Gonzalez's great cover of Kylie's 'Hand On Your Heart' is just begging to be covered on X Factor or the like. It could be a massive hit!

Plus James Blake 'Limit To Your Love' could be bigger with more exposure (original by Feist doesn't sound as chart friendly really)

And 'Come Closer' by Miles Kane if used on an advert could be big too I think.

Would be interesting to see if any of our predictions come true.....

It's had a couple of boosts over the years but I could easily see Set Fire to the Third Bar getting a big boost when performed on a reality show. Also, even though it's not known enough to get performed, Water and a Flame by Daniel Merriweather and Adele has a lot of potential to be a big hit, largely because of the Adele feature.

I haven't heard the original but I find it hard to think of a top 40 hit that sounded less like a top 40 hit than James Blake's version

Whitney Houston's 'I Look to You'. It re-entered the Top 200 when she died (was looking at a new peak all week but fell one short of matching it) and I think it re-entered when it was performed (horribly) on X Factor last year (or at least entered iTunes Top 200), so it must have some sort of love for it. If there was a proper cover of it on a TV talent show, I could see this enter the lower end of the Top 40.

Also, classics like '9 to 5' and 'Summer of 69' could enter the Top 40 at last if they were reduced on iTunes - I know the latter has come agonisingly close on more than one occasion. Also, TV talent show performances would help greatly too.

Not wanting to turn this thread really grim, but there's always the "death effect" to take into consideration. Can't think of any possible examples, but there must be some lyrically perfect songs which under-performed that could be come hits (like 'Man in the Mirror' and 'Back to Black').

Hurt by Johnny Cash is definitely something that could be huge again if given the right exposure. It almost got there in the wake of Leona Lewis' maiming of the song but I definitely think it could be huge again in the right context, an X Factor/The Voice performance done right could do wonders for it.

LOONING time as well but I remember Fix You coming really close to re-entering the top 40 so many times thanks to price reductions, performances etc. I reckon a REALLY GOOD performance or just a convenient price cut would give it that extra boost eventually.

I always think of 'Hurt' as being a Nine Inch Nails song, that to me is the definitive version although I get that Johnny Cash's version is more widely acclaimed.
Oh, I of course know Hurt is by Nine Inch Nails, and I respect their version even though I don't like it myself. Its an excellently written and composed song, Johnny Cash just did something truly incredible with it.

Even Trent Reznor now accepts that the Johnny Cash version of Hurts has become the definitive version.

There was a thread on here around the time Amy/Whitney passed away suggesting "signature"/"tribute" songs for artists (ok how I wrote that makes it seem very tasteless but I assure it wasn't ).

I always think songs like 'Hurt'/'You Lost Me' by Christina Aguilera and 'Already Gone' by Kelly Clarkson would be fitting tribute songs - although a tad depressing in CA's case.

I didn't even know that "Hurt" wasn't Johnny Cash's own song :o

Yes, I remember that thread, it did spring to mind.

I would love for 'You Lost Me' to become somewhat successful, it's my favourite Christina Aguilera single but unfortunately the timing of its release was awful (a ballad at summer?) and the fact people would have moved on from the era after how terribly it performed meant it was always going to flop. :(
