May 13, 201312 yr It's funny, because Capital did actually play 4 Minutes (and also Give It To Me and Celebration) back in 2008/2009. But the station has changed a lot since then really... It is, it is funny how it's changed so rapidly in a reasonably short amount of time. BRING GALAXY BACK, PLZ!

No, it was big, but I wouldn't say it was "massive" either. It's a brilliant song though (the original version)! I think the Freemasons version majorly improved it  I still don't see 5 weeks top 20 as particularly big. I'd say on the Beyonce scale the one we don't hear much would be Beautiful Liar perhaps? Saying that I don't remember the last time I heard Telephone on the radio or about?
May 13, 201312 yr It is, it is funny how it's changed so rapidly in a reasonably short amount of time. BRING GALAXY BACK, PLZ! Yeah, it was probably the Capital merge that ruined it really. The transition seemed very smooth though, it's like they were slowly phasing certain songs and artists out of rotation in the 6 months before/after the merge hoping nobody would notice anything. I think if we had the Galaxy FM from the 00's and it was broadcast over the entire country like Capital, the charts would be faster and more varied right now.

One song where I'd say the Freemasons radio mix improved it over the original was Work by Kelly Rowland. They made it sound like a Panjabi MC song. Didn't know Freemasons were capable of that.

I agree about 'Beautiful Liar' - I've only been reminded about it again recently as I've been checking out Shakira's back catalogue - but definitely not 'Telephone'. I still hear people quoting "you've been a very bad girl...a very, very, VERY bad girl, Gaga" and the video is still about on TV quite a bit.
May 14, 201312 yr I would definitely not say 'I Kissed A Girl' was forgotten. Everyone still remembers it, I'm sure.
May 14, 201312 yr I would definitely not say 'I Kissed A Girl' was forgotten. Everyone still remembers it, I'm sure. But no-one is saying that it's forgotten  As far as I understand it, this thread is and always was about songs that aren't very popular anymore, not ones that are "forgotten".
May 14, 201312 yr I would definitely not say 'I Kissed A Girl' was forgotten. Everyone still remembers it, I'm sure. I would've even said it's Katy's signature song, but lots of people seem to disagree, so I don't know. But she never had a song which had anywhere near that much media impact since. I don't think any of these massive hits are "forgotten". We can't do anything about what Heart FM, etc. decides to play, but at the end of the day, people heard these songs hundreds of times when they were popular, you don't forget things like that. This thread should be "Songs which were massive but you haven't heard anywhere in the past 12 months". Edited May 14, 201312 yr by Eric_Blob
May 14, 201312 yr Of this decade: Fireflies Everybody Hurts (obviously) The Time (Dirty Bit) - Meet Me Halfway as well Teenage Dream Not Afraid If We Ever Meet Again (this MASSIVELY) Riverside - unpopular opinion but I think Replay has stuck around peoples' conscious more In My Head This Ain't A Love Song Louder Where Them Girls At Best Thing I Never Had Cannonball Don't Wanna Go Home Bom Bom He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother The Power of Love
May 14, 201312 yr 'Deja Vu' is definitely one of Beyonce's forgotton hits considering to was #1. I'd say 'Irreplaceable' and 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)' are much more well remembered and they weren't anywhere near #1 during their time on the charts.
May 14, 201312 yr This thread should be "Songs which were massive but you haven't heard anywhere in the past 12 months". It's called "Songs that were massive but haven't passed the test of time". The thread has just lead on to people using the term 'forgotten', but I think most just mean "haven't been heard since".

May 14, 201312 yr 'Firework' says hello... That's for sure, and as I said before, I honestly think even 'Hot & Cold' is held in higher regard and gets played more these days than IKAG. IKAG was one of the first I thought of when I saw this thread, there's such a HUGE disconnect between how much it was talked about and how dominant it was at the time, and how little people have talked about it ever since then. Which isn't totally surprising to me, I always felt it was kind of an average song when you took away the "shock value". Edited May 14, 201312 yr by Danny
May 14, 201312 yr Of this decade: Teenage Dream Not Afraid If We Ever Meet Again (this MASSIVELY) Best Thing I Never Had CannonballSeeing these saddens me (although I whole heartedly agree with their inclusions) :( Particularly 'If We Ever Meet Again'! Someone mentioned 'The Way I Are', but I'm not sure I would include that here. It's still pretty well remembered and played in clubs now. 'Give It To Me' (by Timbo not that Madonna tripe) on the other hand... I don't think people remember that one half as much as TWIA...

I find 'Firework' quite average now-a-days, probably my least favourite from her ('Wide Awake' aside). I'm not really that sure she has a signature song yet, but the closest to one is definitely 'Firework' or 'Hot n Cold'.
