Naughty Boy - Hotel Cabana

After winning £44,000 on Deal or No Deal and producing the best-selling album of last year, Shahid Khan, or Naughty Boy, moves onto his own album, Hotel Cabana, to be released later this year.

"I want it to be an album for our time; it has a concept to it, so it’s more like a film in some respects, I view it like I’m not just a producer – I’m a director too".

It is said to feature a collection of artists including, Gabrielle, Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Sam Smith and, of course, Emeli Sandé. The first single Wonder featured Emeli and reached Number 10 whereas the second single La La La features Sam Smith and is set to reach Number One. To celebrate the success of this single, Naughty Boy has released a new mixtape, The Cabana Mix Vol. #1 which features his inspirations behind the album and features classic songs from artists such as Tracey Chapman, MIA, Woodkid. The mixtape is further proof that Emeli Sandé can’t take part in anything without appearing more than once.

I'm not mad on La La La but some of those collaborations make me ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT for this album.
I find it quite amusing that 'La La La' will be his 9th top 100 hit as a producer and the first ever to not be some form of collaboration with Emeli Sandé. And it's his first #1. Should tell him something :P (It will be his 7th top 10 single though, following 'Diamond Rings', 'Never Be Your Woman', 'Heaven', 'Trouble', 'Wonder' and 'Clown' (the latter of which sticks out like a sore thumb among his hits)).
The artists on the mixtape sound far more interesting than the actual album artists, but if the La La La video is anything to go by, this 'concept' he speaks of could potentially be amazing.

Because Trouble was a collaboration with Emeli Sande... Naughty Boy also had a #36 hit in 2006 "Phat Beach (I'll Be Ready)", I haven't heard it but I don't think it features Emeli Sande.

I heard that he was working with Ella Eyre and something else on a particular song on Capital the other day.

Trouble was written by Emeli though so I think that's why it's some form of collaboration.

As Rabbit Heart said, 'Trouble' was co-written by Emeli Sandé (as was Rihanna's 'Half Of Me' which I didn't know until today was produced by Naughty Boy).

And 'Phat Beach (I'll Be Ready)' is not the same Naughty Boy :P

As in THE Gabrielle? Not bloody Gabrielle Aplin or whatever? I am intrigued.

That was my exact thought upon reading this thread! I'm loving "La La La" a lot more than I was "Wonder" at this point (which was released FAR too late). I'm pleased that it's set to be his biggest hit :D

He's just been on In:Demand and stated the album will be out in September/October. The next single will feature Ella Eyre and Wiz Khalifa and the album will feature Bastille [EDIT: and Ed Sheeran]!

SO EXCITED.

Hmm. I could kind of see that working actually but still what a strange combination.

(I wonder which featured-act-from-a-previous-dance-hit he'll steal next, maybe Alpines :P)

  • 1 month later...

1. Act I (feat. George The Poet)

2. Welcome To Cabana (feat. Emeli Sandé & Tinie Tempah)

3. Wonder (feat. Emeli Sandé)

4. Think About It (feat. Wiz Khalifa & Ella Eyre)

5. Hollywood (feat. Gabrielle)

6. Act II (feat. George The Poet)

7. La La La (feat. Sam Smith)

8. One Way (feat. Mic Righteous & Maiday)

9. Pluto (feat. Emeli Sandé & Wretch 32)

10. So Strong (feat. Chasing Grace)

11. No One's Here To Sleep (feat. Bastille)

12. Lifted (feat. Emeli Sandé)

13. Top Floor (feat. Ed Sheeran)

14. Epilogue (feat. George The Poet)

15. Never Be Your Woman (feat. Wiley & Emeli Sandé) [bonus Track]

16. Daddy (Ifan Dafydd Remix) [feat. Naughty Boy] [bonus Track]

17. Get Lucky (feat. Tanika) [bonus Track]

18. Lifted (feat. Emeli Sandé & Professor Green) [bonus Track]

Amazing to see Pluto on the track-list, she must have written it for him, but it will also feature (without Wretch) on her next album, apparently. Her performance of it at the Royal Albert Hall was beautiful.

Lots of Emeli, as well as Bastille and Ed Sheeran :D

Also, it that Gabrielle of Dreams and Rise fame? Or perhaps the Norwegian Gabrielle (we can only dream <3)? :P

I was genuinely expecting to see every other track featuring Emeli here. Only 4 Emeli songs (plus another 2 as bonus tracks) but who's willing to bet he'll release the other 2 as the 4th and 5th singles...

Very interested in the Bastille and Ed Sheeran tracks anyway.

I doubt he'll release Pluto, unless Wretch 32's desperate for a hit, and if he wants Emeli's solo on her album to be Pluto, Pt. II :kink:

Dang, Mic Righteous on the album! :o That'll be big for him.

Looks like Think About It will be a likely choice for single #4, as according to someone above it was originally intended to be the third single.
