They should do it so the winner of The Voice gets to compete for the UK in Eurovision

Looking at the last 3 winners, I'm glad that hasn't happened ;p

Indeed! 2 of the winners didn't even go Top 40 with their winning song, We would have been last for the past 3 years with nil points had any of The Voice 'winners' represented us!

Do you really think they would have scored less than Engleburt & Bonnie?
It's fine as long as the song hasn't been around earlier than the September prior to the contest! I think that's similar to Poland this year, their entry was released last November and was huge in Poland before it was chosen for Eurovision back in February/March time. I think it would be a great approach for the UK to take but tbh I'll be happy as long as they continue down the same path as this year.

Considering everything else has failed, that would probably a good approach for the BBC to try next year. They might as well start pushing the song across Europe in December time, obviously without us knowing!

At least Molly is looking likely of getting a top 15 hit from this which is rather impressive. Currently #14 and #23 and top 10 combined.

Hope she can hold on - The least she deserves is a decent sized hit single from this, Still pleased/impressed that so many ESC songs are doing well this year and still climbing today - The ESC album is also at #2!

So essentially we could release a record in November - Make it smash across Europe and then enter it for ESC?

Theoretically yes.

I hope the BBC are reading this, that's their next year plan sorted!

I really hope they aren't reading this, because it's coming from people who have no clue about the contest. Was Rise Like A Phoenix a pre-contest hit? Was Only Teardrops? Yeah, it's a way to take (just look at Slavic Girls, but it didn't work there once the juries got involved), but is there even a guarantee someone with a hit would want to take part for us? And it's not like the BBC can wave a magic wand and VOILA! pre-contest hit, especially as it'd need them to spend a lot of money - which is the total opposite of what they want to do for Eurovision.

I'm really hoping there isn't a big panic now at the BBC as there seems to be in the fanbase. The fundamentals of the BBC Introducing strategy are very solid as a long-term plan, and don't cost too much either. It's just a matter of finding the right package.

I fully agree with this - I'm hoping they don't go back to sending somebody like Bonnie Tyler again.

My preferable option for next year would be:

Bbc source 5 singers via introducing

Bbc source 2-3 songs

Bbc put on a national final and the public pick both singer and song

Bbc potentially include a melodifestivalen style country jury vote to help decide final winner

Bbc do lots of national and international pre contest promo

I think we won't go back to an oldie again. The amount of times I've read in the past two years some version of 'Englebert Humperdinck failed to impress with placing only 25th out of 26' in some Eurovision-related article suggests that it's been ingrained very well that sending some old glory with a basic power-ballad won't work.

We've done better than the last 2 years, which isn't to say that this wasn't a disaster, but I think if that Molly had done worse than Bonnie we'd be in a far worse situation for next year.

I forgot about all that pre-contest promo that Sanna, The Common Linnets and Conchita did.

OH

#33 in the UK...should go top 15/20 next week before dropping away completely. Not a horrendous result for a song that didn't do all that well in the contest!

OH

Exactly!

The Common Linnets are the perfect example of how you don't need promotion to win. You just need a really brilliant track.

In recent times, the best we've done is with Jade. Jade was doing promo across Europe and performing other countries' national finals or TV shows such as Dancing With Stars. They at least need to do something to get the song across Europe a couple of months before to grow on the Europe public. The songs you have mentioned are much more instant songs, whereas we always send growers without giving them any exposure. Growers need exposure to allow public to love the song by the time the final comes round!

The obvious answer there is surely to send something Instant then, no???

The BBC isn't that logical, unfortunately.

Or we could just send an instant song. It's not like it's something BBC Introducing acts (or indeed the BBC) are incapable of, and it's not like that was the problem with Children of the Universe.
