She’s had many a Hometown Glory, with Brit Awards, Grammys and even an Oscar under her belt, but now Adele has a new reason to celebrate, and a very special fan to add to her list of admirers. Yes, everyone’s favourite megastar next door will be swapping Tottenham for Buckingham Palace – the Press Association has reported that the Rolling In The Deep singer is to receive an MBE in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to music.

This once in a lifetime appointment with Her Majesty tops off a stellar start to Adele’s career, who has already notched up almost 6 million album sales in the UK. In 2012, she was picked to sing the eponymous theme tune for the 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall, securing not just a worldwide hit but a slew of awards in the process. The track won her a Brit Award, a Golden Globe and an Oscar. She also managed a record haul at the 2013 Grammys – taking home six awards. All this, and she’s still only 25!

Congratulations, Adele! We reckon it’s going to be pretty difficult to find Someone Like You again!

Congrats to her, well deserved! :D If she keeps going the way she has been doing she'll be a Dame in no time.

Too many puns!

Anyway, very well deserved! I don't ever know the order of "importance" with these MBEs or OBEs or whatever unless it makes them a Knight or Dame or Sir in the process, but still, very well done! :D

Adele still racking up those awards *.* Hope this can prevent '21' dropping out of the top 75 for another few weeks :P

But in all seriousness YAY for her.

Well, what's so deserved about it? Great music and all but all she did was make a mega selling album. That counts as "services to music"?

She saved the album market and is generally seen as a hero in the eyes of the British public.

Well done to Adele. Very well deserved!

One big selling album does not save a market. She may be seen as a hero but it doesn't make her one :P

Fair enough, but I would say that she is known by everyone for all the right reasons and deserves an award for her services to the interest at least.

It's like saying that the Olympians shouldn't get services for sport when they've just run and swam.

The person who wrote that needs to be fired.

I think they need to get an MBE.

Well done Adele, I've still got my limited 7" of "Hometown Glory" from 2007, probably worth about £50 now! :o

From highest to lowest:

(GBE > K/DBE >) CBE > OBE > MBE

It's a great achievement for her! I don't think it's at all undeserved - even a substitute teacher at my school has an MBE for god's sake!

  • 2 weeks later...

But she should be a Dame :/ Or maybe a Lord, whichever's highest.

Well Picasso only painted famous paintings.

J.K Rowling ONLY wrote a mega-selling series.

David Beckham ONLY married one of the best UK popstars ever.

Yet they all have OBEs and stuff (aside from Picasso but you get my point, maybe Damien Hurst would be a better example).
