June 27, 201312 yr Kevin Rudd has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia ^_^
September 7, 201311 yr What do you guys think about Tony Abbott being the new Australian PM? My Australian facebook friends aren't happy :(
September 7, 201311 yr I'd say give him a few months before reaching any conclusions about whether he's any good or not.
September 7, 201311 yr I'm deeply unamused. This prick is going to cancel the fantastic 'National Broadband Network' that wanted Fibre to every Australian. He's also a racist, bigoted, sexist, mysogynistic, backwards bast*rd. Back in '09 that One Australia interview where the lass thought Islam was a country could easily have been done by Abbott. He's also pro-austerity. Because that's worked SUPER WELL in Europe. It's an absolute disastrous outcome, but at least ALP didn't get whitewashed in QLD. Hopefully they'll be able to rebuild at the state elections because people seem to have realised LNP was a mistake there with a string of broken promises and austerity to stop the state going bankrupt. The only good thing about this is the Aussie Dollar might lose some of it's value before I buy some ahead of my November visit. (Tempted to trade the plane for a boat tbh)
September 7, 201311 yr I'd say give him a few months before reaching any conclusions about whether he's any good or not. Judging by what his party did last time they were in power and what they've done in QLD it's safe to say it's not a good thing. Their policies are a pile of w*** too.
September 7, 201311 yr Kevin Rudd has already said he is stepping down as Labor leader so he didn't last long. I wonder if Julia Gillard will stand  It seems that Abbott is also something of a climate change denier which is worrying.
September 7, 201311 yr Author Kevin Rudd DEAD (again) Don't know if Shorten can win. I'm hoping Sam Dastyari (gen sec of NSW Labor) can get in on a by-election. I'd love a bit of DASHING DAZ as the next PM.
September 7, 201311 yr Sums up the policies of Abbott vs the policies of Rudd rather well: http://dontbeafuckingidiot.herokuapp.com Copy the link rather than clicking on it. Stupid filters.
September 7, 201311 yr Didn't Abbott state that he wants to go to the source of these 'asylum boats' in Indonesia and BUY them all just to stop them coming into Australia altogether? I know it's a huge issue but his policies are utterly outlandish. He makes Irish politicians look educated.

I know it's a huge issue but his policies are utterly outlandish. He makes Irish politicians look educated. I remember reading something about buying boats. He is allegedly a Rhodes Scholar and went to Oxford. If I were Oxford I'd be taking a hard look at my admission policies. His big thing was send the boats back to Indonesia, which Indonesia has said "errrr, no. Fuck off mate" too. Not that Papua New Guinea was much more receptive to KRudd's plan...
September 7, 201311 yr All I know is the Aussie BB housemates weren't too keen on him, they got to vote from inside the house (they had an official on hand apparently), they watched what I assume were sort of pleas for votes from the candidates and he was like 'vote for the guy with the not bad looking daughters', which kind of creeped them all out and they just generally didn't seem to like him much at all
September 7, 201311 yr Voting is mandatory in Australia so it doesn't surprise me that Big Brother voted. The Aussies stationed in Antarctica also had to vote. In fact, the lass standing next to me in the line at the Fringe had to postal vote despite being studying and working in the UK and Europe for the past year and a bit.

Oxford also awarded a first to one David William Donald Cameron who is hardly known for his intellect.
September 7, 201311 yr I haven't folllowed the election closely or know much about Abbott's policies, but i have seen him described as 'centre right' which pretty much sums up where i am politically so I welcome his victory
September 7, 201311 yr He's Centre Right on the Aussie scale which on the European scale is the Far Right. So yeah, right smack bang with you on the political scale.
September 7, 201311 yr He's Centre Right on the Aussie scale which on the European scale is the Far Right. So yeah, right smack bang with you on the political scale. I would disagree that i am far right Economically I am way to the right but on social issues (gay rights/gay marriage/opposition to wars/deep reservations on the cuts to disability benefits etc) I am anything but far right I describe myself as a libertarian - fiscal conservative/social centrist
September 7, 201311 yr Author For a summation of Tony Abbott think IAIN DUNCAN SMITH minus ALL THAT CHARM
September 7, 201311 yr He strikes me as just what the typical Australian would want. I don't mean that in a xenophobic sense. Australian culture and attitudes are polls apart from the UK (thank God).
