I really hope it's not to do with combining streaming - not even sure how that would work anyway. I like the whole "if this song sold 200 more copies it would've been top 10" and so on, having a sales based chart is more interesting in my opinion, even if sales end up small in the future! In any case, I don't think they're going to reach that point just yet - especially after the last few weeks when sales have been so high! I agree that it's probably announcing Get Lucky to have passed a million. :)

Edit: Or maybe it could be something to do with banning fake versions of songs from the chart (ie cover versions released before the original?)... That could be wishful thinking.

It's not something I've really thought about, but if airplay and streaming was included - would that encourage On Air/On Sale releases like in the US? I'm not really sure about release strategies and stuff though.

I wouldn't want airplay or streaming included though, and like I said earlier - I don't think that'll be the announcement. It probably will be Get Lucky becoming a million seller.

I highly doubt it'll be the inclusion of streaming. The OCC have said several times that the UK chart is different to the Hot 100 in the fact that it IS a sales chart, not a popularity chart (there's a very big difference).

Or the big change could be Radio 2 will be broadcasting the top 40 singles chart from September.

I can dream :D

Or they could include all of the weekly sales in every single chart ever on their website?

I would die of happiness *.*

That's what the dutch chart said too

I really depends for me

If streaming includes streams via paid service i'd be happy with it as i'd make songs actually climb the chart (see the streaming chart) and would maybe encourage OA/OS releases more

If streaming includes paid services and youtube then it'll be a big big no no for me as adding youtube is ridiculous

Did they say when this announcement was going to happen?

I second that. :D

That made me think though, I'd love it for them to improve their chart archives so it is as easy to use and covers more like Chart Stats did.

They need to improve their web design as well. It's so CLUNKY.

I have a funny feeling this is about OA/OS or 59p iTunes tracks not to chart in the official chart no more :nocheer:

Given the variance of pricing between different download sites, that would be problematic to say the least.

What about weighting sales according to price, though?

I bet they're just announcing another million-seller (Get Lucky?).

And/or Bad Romance?

It's bound to be something mundane like confirming Get Lucky as a million seller, or perhaps a new million sellers award/page on their website.

It would be the first 2013 release to sell a million and (I think) only the second by a French act after David Guetta so it is fairly big news in chart terms.

I have a bad feeling this all one big wind up
I can guarantee that Get Lucky will be announed as a million seller.

As AMAZING as Get Lucky is, that'd be quite the anti-climax

Hardly big news about "get lucky", i'm going with streaming, but I think this has got to be paid only, not free streams. So napster subscribers and rdio/spotify/deezer paid subscribers, also if someone streams say a song 100 times a day that only counts towards 1 sale per week. If it is streaming, some band may consider allow their music to be streamed "who aren't already"
It's probably Get Lucky becoming a million seller. Nothing wrong with that but it'd me a bit anticlimatic.
The year's most overrated track being announced as a million seller, YAY HOW EXCITING.
