July 7, 201312 yr It's not the team that's the problem. Or if it is, it's a very minor problem. It's the material that's the problem. If they have good material, they'll get a high chart position. And who do you think get the material? Mollie? Nop, it's their team. (Well, their A&R, but he's part of their team). It's their team that gets them the promo slot too, etc. Their team sucks, it's a fact.
July 7, 201311 yr Saturdays fans are always too quick to blame management. I think most of you forget that the majority of people in this thread didn't even like the song on first listen. Clearly, the song hasn't gelled with Joe Public and that's completely understandable. RE Promotion - what promotion have they been missing out on exactly, save for a couple of extra daytime TV shows they could have done which have a completely negligible effect anyway? There aren't any of the 3 big chat shows at the moment (Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross & Graham Norton), there's no BGT/The Voice/X Factor...
July 7, 201311 yr Making fun of them, calling them floppdays (or whatever) and being fans is a bit odd. I think its not the end of the world, its not like the album will be released off gentleman so I don't see a big problem here.

There aren't any of the 3 big chat shows at the moment (Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross & Graham Norton), there's no BGT/The Voice/X Factor... True, true. I absolutely love Gentleman, more so than What About Us (don't kill me!) but they would have been better off releasing a safer single to feed off of the success of their #1. And no, this isn't fans speaking in retrospect; nearly all have been saying this from before Gentleman was announced as a single. I mean, even 30 Days reached #7. It's just sad seeing a <#11 charting single after a #1. That being said, they're like a boomerang. *inserts Nicole lyrics*.
July 7, 201311 yr We complain about them not taking risks but thinking about it, they've actually taken quite alot of risks. Notorious, Missing You and Forever Is Over weren't exactly Saturdays style songs and pretty much split opinion when they debuted. All Fired Up was heavy dance and just like Gentleman it strayed away from the typical verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure. I think they should just stick to electropop/dance pop and stop trying to experiment. I mean, Ego/Higher/Up/What About Us are pretty much their most critically acclaimed and commercially successful singles, why continue to change the sound??

There aren't any of the 3 big chat shows at the moment (Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross & Graham Norton), there's no BGT/The Voice/X Factor... If the song hasn't gelled with Joe Public, it's because it's the wrong song. Who chose the song? Their management/team. It's "management", they manage them, take the important decisions (such as single choice). I gotta ask you. Who do you want to blame, then? It's not the fault of the girls ; they didn't choose it, their rendition of the song is good enough, there's nothing else they could have done. The public? You can't force them to like something (although, I guess we could argue on that...). It leads us to their management/team, the people who decided that Gentleman would be a great idea. It's their fault. About the promo, I didn't mean actual performance on TV. There's a lot more to promotion than just that. The What About Us promo started weeks before the actual release with constant press about them, with Chasing The Saturdays showing them every week to people, etc. That's promo.
July 7, 201311 yr I mean, Ego/Higher/Up/What About Us are pretty much their most critically acclaimed and commercially successful singles, why continue to change the sound?? this is no not true they called ego generic and mediocore higher annoying production what about us basic their most critically acclaimed songs are UP, Notorious and AFU
July 7, 201311 yr Cmon guys, don't you see , GENTLEMAN just made the asian world know about the Saturdays.....People would have been curious to hear, how Gentleman, which is a Psy's song, sounded with a bunch of glam ladies.., I'm just happy that it increased their fanbase. Now they just have to go with NGUOL and Lease my love kinda songs, with much radio tours, with family life being supportive and better managed, they will just get bigger going forward. Stay positive :)
July 7, 201311 yr The problem solely lies in the hands of the song. Promotion helps a song, but there isn't a lot of programmes to promote on right now. After a #1, you'd think airplay for them would stay consistently high... why hasn't it? Because of the song. I really hope they can just pick it up - and if management choose a ballad for 3rd single, then they would be absolutely ridiculous. I hope for the girls' sake, we'll get another up-tempo track, which can get them back into the top 10.
July 7, 201311 yr Okay, so #14 isn't amazing but it's still the 14th most purchased song this week so let's not dismiss that altogether! They will overcome it. It doesn't seem to me like they lose the record company a lot of money by 'flopping'. They don't use a-list producers, they get a lot of money towards their videos with product placements and they do lots of appearances and gigs to make up for where the single doesn't sell. The Saturdays as a 'brand' are just fine. Joe public doesn't give a toss where singles chart, most of them don't even pay attention. It seems worse to us because we follow the charts. If the song hasn't had much promotion or radio/TV airtime, a lot of people won't even know it's out and therefore won't even know it 'only' got to #14. If their next single is a dance-pop track that gets picked up by radio, they have a sexy-ish video and get played on TV again, Joe public will think it's the follow-up to 'What About Us'. That said, it's time for them to get a move on with this new single. This one didn't work, go back to what does work and all will be fine. Who cares if they go back to dance pop.. that sound clearly has an audience. I can understand why they would do this but screw credibility, that's never going to happen for them. Let's appreciate them for what they are.
July 7, 201311 yr Enters at #14 (looking at you Jay ;) ) Getting those top 15 positions. Ooh, good guess! My first guess weeks ago was #4 though, sigh. :( I wonder what the sales are like? Maybe 29k?
July 7, 201311 yr #14 is a big let down after What About Us going to #1 with 114K but at least it never done a Party Over/Let It Go and just scraped the top 40. Next single please.
July 7, 201311 yr Ooh, good guess! My first guess weeks ago was #4 though, sigh. :( I wonder what the sales are like? Maybe 29k? I here you; I genuinely thought an All Fired Up run like some suggested. :( 29K if they're lucky. #14 is a big let down after What About Us going to #1 with 114K but at least it never done a Party Over/Let It Go and just scraped the top 40. Next single please. And if there's a ray of light in this...

Can't quite believe I'm saying this but Griff is bang on. I mean of course they've been plagued with dodgy single choices, release dates etc. over the years. But the problem here was the song. Didn't we all know from the moment we heard it that it wasn't a hit? I certainly did. And how are people going to hear the material if its not being promoted properly? It's not a one sided thing. They did their usual promotional effort TV-wise (which worked for What About Us). People didn't hear it on radio as much because the song is such a nothing that radio didn't want to play it. It all comes back to the quality of the material. The Saturdays can't rely on their fanbase to buy singles and albums because frankly it's a small fanbase, and by releasing crap like this they killed their own momentum.
July 7, 201311 yr Sad how this ended up at #14 :( get ready for a 20+ place next week Anyways I am glad they released this as at least they tried something new and I still love this song

July 7, 201311 yr Author The song was a problem, I do like it though but I think I preferred '30 Days' before/after the release, I doubt I'll be jamming over 'Gentleman' in two years time.
July 7, 201311 yr i have to say Gentleman is up there with ITIL as one of those songs I skip when on a SaturShuffle - already! Where as 'flops' like 30 Days and Forever Is Over still get a regular spin on my pod. im very very very sad and disapointed its not gone top ten. I just hope they soldier on through and release another single.
July 7, 201311 yr '30 Days' was a horrible abomination, this is just a weak song. I would say it's their third worst single but '30 Days' and 'Issues' are the only incredibly bad ones for me. *edit - forgot about 'Missing You', I'll call that my third worst as it's lame.
