July 9, 201311 yr I said that the other day. it would be near impossible to claim a top 10 with sales for the top ten just now.
July 9, 201311 yr I said that the other day. it would be near impossible to claim a top 10 with sales for the top ten just now. Why? They have been selling more than 50k four times now, they could have done it again, especially since Gentleman is a pre-single.
July 10, 201311 yr Why? They have been selling more than 50k four times now, they could have done it again, especially since Gentleman is a pre-single. Yeah but the thing is, those tracks that sell in excess of 50k first week have immediate impact that's good, not gentleman esque impact where there is a 50/50 chance that even fans will download it.
July 10, 201311 yr those tracks have immediate impact that's good I can't associate this with Missing You or Just Can't Get Enough, sorry.
July 10, 201311 yr I can't associate this with Missing You or Just Can't Get Enough, sorry. Most people that I've come across that dislike JCGE are the ones that were alive when the original was released. Well Missing You was #1 on radio for 2 weeks and that says it all. ;)
July 10, 201311 yr Most people that I've come across that dislike JCGE are the ones that were alive when the original was released. Well Missing You was #1 on radio for 2 weeks and that says it all. ;) (It has nothing to do with that. I love their cover of Beggin and Died In Your Eyes, or their live lounge cover of Just The Way You Are, Winter Wonderland, I Need A Dollar, etc. JCGE is just bad IMO.) And barely sold over 195-205k. All Fired Up was #14 on one week and sold more than 215k at least. Notorious was #29 on one week and sold 190-200k. Compare that to Missing You and it's actually baffling. MY had huge loads of promotion and press coverage. Notorious had one performance on SYTYCD. And if you just look at the promo schedule of Missing You and the its airplay chartrun, I swear you would expect much better sales. It was popular with radios, not with the general public. There's a difference. Compare it to other songs that were #1 on radio for two weeks and you will see how it didn't do that well with the general public.
July 10, 201311 yr I am aware that it should've done better. People still liked the song, regardless of those facts. It's sold in excess of 215,000 too.
July 10, 201311 yr 'Missing You' was a success for them. Yes, it reached #1 on airplay, and it had great promo. However, it's rather "glass half empty" to look at this and deduce that 'Missing You' - a #3, silver selling single - was therefore unpopular with the general public, just because it didn't peak a little higher / sell a bit more. Dismissing 'Missing You' as some kind of disappointment for The Saturdays is kind of greedy actually. In reality it was one of their biggest successes, and nothing to sniff at! It's important not to neglect the fact that the 'Headlines!' album came out one week later - an album which did well for them, comparatively speaking. The airplay #1 & great promo for 'Missing You' surely had a very positive impact on 'Headlines!'. You can say that the #14/#29 airplay peaks for 'All Fired Up'/'Notorious' therefore made those singles more of a triumph, but there's not much of a victory in them tempting a mere 50,000 to purchase the album these songs were included on.
July 10, 201311 yr Author The thing is the 'Gentleman' campaign could be saved if the label reduced the song to 59p, I'm sure had 'Notorious' remained at 99p it would have been lucky to sell over 100,000.
July 11, 201311 yr Let's all be honest here, we were expecting top 10 then when we saw the promo schedule we thought top 20, but we still all The Sats and we can't wait for their next single to SMASHHHH!! *NGUOL* *cough*
July 11, 201311 yr Let's not get our hopes up for NGUOL to be released just yet, nothing is confirmed and it really could be ANYTHING, maybe even a brand new song. I'm sure they'll go back to dance pop though. I hope so at least.
July 11, 201311 yr According to their Google hangout, the next single will be uptempo. They also said they wanted to release a ballad single after that.
July 11, 201311 yr Yay. Looking forward to the ballad single. I presume they're going to take GA's place and release a ballad mid-December. They should stick to the ballad in January. 'Issues' was such a massive hit for them! I hope the album is released after the next single though. Despite 'Gentleman' not quite being one of their finer moments, I'm still stupidly excited for it.
