July 10, 201312 yr Amazing to see Anna Kendrick get a top ten hit but it feels like it's about six months too late. One of those rare US smashes that I couldn't really imagine crossing over massively here, purely because the film was out ages ago. It's a nice gimmicky little pop song though, a la Enrique's Do You Know with the ping pong ball sound effect.
July 10, 201312 yr I believe it's because the fully produced version has been sent to radio and managed to gain airplay, which obviously resulted into managing to go top 10 on iTunes and help it's position out. Amazing though. The new version is great and I think it could do something over here if she was to promote it.
July 11, 201312 yr The 5th week at #1 for Blurred Lines? I honestly think it has a shot at 10+ weeks.
July 11, 201312 yr Fantastic to see Krewella's 'Live For The Night' already in the top 100! Hopefully it can be just as successful as 'Alive'!
July 11, 201312 yr I hope Zedd can get top 10, that'd be amazing. Annoying that Nikki Williams still isn't in the main hot 100 though.
July 11, 201312 yr It's weird to see so many R&B & hip hop songs high in the top 40 while they're nowhere to be seen in the iTunes top 100....
July 11, 201312 yr With Capital Cities, Awolnation, Imagine Dragons slowly creeping up and Fall Out Boy holding up well -- all of which have been playlisted on rock radio for MONTHS -- I'm wondering if rock is slowly making something of a comeback in the Hot 100.

In those cases it's due to them crossing over to pop radio. I do think alternative music has been doing better (since last year really). I think R&B/hip hop are making a comeback on pop radio too. There's been Suit & Tie and Mirrors from Justin, #Beautiful from Mariah, Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us and Same Love from Macklemore, The Way by Ariana Grande, Blurred Lines, Treasure by Bruno Mars, and Jay-Z's new single is doing well too (although it got a radio deal there I think). "Mirrors" and "Treasure" are about as 'hip hop' as "Call Me Maybe".
July 12, 201312 yr "Mirrors" and "Treasure" are about as 'hip hop' as "Call Me Maybe". I was talking about "urban" music in general, and they're R&B (or in Treasure's case more in the funk direction). Treasure is about as R&B as Suit & Tie and Fine China (which also got played on pop radio now that I think about it). Mirrors sounds the same as Cry Me a River and has a beat made of beat-boxing, and is currently #18 on the urban airplay chart in the US... If there's any song out the ones I listed you could question, it would be #Beautiful. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Eric_Blob
