Descontento - snubbing the Bowie record would be a crime! ..though I can see why they might...
They might nominate Bowie just to get the column inches, but the album is nowhere near as good as everyone says it is / wanted it to be.

Interesting to see Suede quoted and great to see Public Service Broadcasting in there. No sign of Jake Bugg which is a surprise unless the bookies know that the record company didn't enter it.

Interesting to see Suede quoted

I think lazy odds-givers always add former winners as a formality!

Shortlist revealed !

Arctic Monkeys - AM

David Bowie - The Next Day

Disclosure - Settle

Foals - Holy Fire

Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg

James Blake - Overgrown

Jon Hopkins - Immunity

Laura Marling - Once I Was An Eagle

What an incredibly boring list. There are some great albums on the list, but it seems like they've played it far too safe this year. Call it the 'Bubblewrap' nominees list if you will.

Quite a 'mainstream' list there, I know all of those artists bar two. Very surprised to see Rudimental get a nod, they're not usually that friendly to dance acts are they?

I dunno if the odds are always that inaccurate, but I can't believe London Grammar isn't there :o It was released this week, the same as Arctic Monkeys so that can't be the problem!

Very surprised at Home making the list. I really like the album but I didn't think it would have met the standards to be nominated. I agree that it's a VERY safe list though, I haven't normally listened to so many albums before the nominations have been announced.

Yeah, I was hoping for Public Service Broadcasting... what a disappointment. :(

And nominating Arctic Monkeys after 2 days on sale is a bit ridiculous.

I'm also disappointed by the absence of Public Service broadcasting :(

As for AM, it won't be eligible next year so it was this year or never. I assume the panel had a copy several weeks ago anyway.

I wonder how much the bookies took on London Grammar?

4/1 David Bowie 'The Next Day'

4/1 Arctic Monkeys 'AM'

5/1 Laura Marling 'Once I Was An Eagle'

5/1 Foals 'Holy Fire'

7/1 Disclosure 'Settle'

7/1 James Blake 'Overgrown'

8/1 Rudimental 'Home'

8/1 Jake Bugg 'Jake Bugg'

8/1 Laura Mvula 'Sing to the Moon'

10/1 Villagers 'Awayland'

10/1 Jon Hopkins 'Immunity'

10/1 Savages 'Silence Yourself'

Although, they roughly seem to be in order of how well known the artists are.

I think that means they are saying they haven't got a clue

Not the most 'interesting' of shortlists tbh, gotta agree about it being kinda safe

Nonetheless it's great to see James Blake, Disclosure, Savages etc on there (even though they were kinda inevitable). No random jazz act on there though? Thought Melt Yourself Down had that spot in the bag :(

I'm gonna call a Laura Marling win, just as an early prediction

Oh how dull, the first year that I've actually heard everything on list before it's been published.

Still, Laura Marling to win please. Lovely album.

Seems a very uninspired list this year. James Blake would be my preferred winner, though I enjoyed Foals, Disclosure and Laura Mvula too.
