It has been widely rumoured that 'Rock & Roll' would be Avril Lavigne's 2nd single from her upcoming 5th album and will premiere sometime this month! I've now found more information regarding this song from ATRL forums:

It's official. Avril Lavigne's second single Rock & Roll is a Max Martin track! The song was registered under MXM AB, his production company. Also shocking, there is no featured female artist like originally speculated. The song was written by Avril Lavigne, Chad Kroeger, David Hodges, Jacob Kasher.

Some writing credits also go to Rickard Goransson from Carolina Liar, and Peter Svensson from The Cardigans.

Very excited if this is all true! 'What The Hell' and 'Smile' were both fantastic songs!

And here is the full song! I'll listen to it very soon! :D

Brilliant. I see this being bigger than HTNGU. <3

Adore this, so good and anthemic whilst being different to HTNGU as well. Excited for her album, strange, the whole sound to it feels like it should be a big comeback album for her and doing better than things are for her lately. :(. Hopefully this can turn things around a bit.

I can see why the world is kind of half way toward being over Avril. Her image hasn't evolved at all and her music is still quite juvenile. But she's still delivering the hits at the end of the day so who cares? Five albums in and she's enjoying bigger success than some of her contemporaries (Xtina for one) and still has a decent fanbase. Good for her.

It sounds fantastic!! Another brilliant single from Avril!

LOVE IT! Instantly great! Such an anthem. Already better than 'Here's To Never Growing Up' after one listen.

She's so on point this time, it's such a shame she's not doing well with it. :( Still, I hope this somehow turns it around.

As someone who was once an Avril LOON I'm not feeling this at all. :( This whole image and sound is rather stale for her at this stage. Her Let Go stuff sounds far more mature and grown up than any of this and I honestly don't see how that's a good thing. Maybe I just have ridiculously high expectations after Goodbye Lullaby, which was rather amazing.
Very instant and quite a nice song. I love the hook except for the 'rock n roll HEY' call out bits. It's no surprise she returned to this kind of music after Goodbye Lullabye but I'm assuming the label had something to do with it.
That is so instant and fantastic. I think it's definitely better than Here's To Never Growing Up, which felt a bit of a misfire really, this is more like the Avril I love.
This is pretty amazing! I kind of got over her during 'Goodbye Lullaby' era, I didn't even download the album (did I miss anything?!). I'm really enjoying this era though, this and HTNGU are great.
shit the bed this is AMAZING! I loved 'here's to never growing up' on first listen, but this has hit me even more! it's got more of that avril touch than that song, which is what makes me love it more.

I kind of got over her during 'Goodbye Lullaby' era, I didn't even download the album (did I miss anything?!)

Only the best thing to come out of the whole damn era.

It was actually a single, but only when the whole album was dead and buried.

'Wish You Were Here' is better than 'When You're Gone', imo. Such a stunning, beautiful song. The whole era was definitely "her 'My December'/'Try This'/'Blackout'" for me. So underrated in all aspects.

'Rock N Roll' is so good! I really love her and like Jark said, she manages to deliver hit after hit so I think she's doing well to not have people completely over her. BIG HIT PLEASE.

Seriously can't get enough of this, literally hooked! I didn't want to go to bed last night because I wanted to stay up and listen to it, and I didn't want to go to work today for the same reason.
I love Avril, but I'm not understanding everyone's sudden obsession with this...its so average.
Love it! I am so ready for her album. She is one of the few artists that delivers for me every single time.
