I don't think that was an under-performance at all, it's not like there was loads of hype for the song, nor was there much airplay for it! I think Top 30 is exactly what was expected of it.

This was released at that stupid point in 2011 where some record companies switched to OA/OS but still tried to insist on having a big first-week sales figure (The Sats' Notorious managed to make #8 on this basis). BOMD was #10 in the midweeks and fell to #27 on the Sunday then it received next-to-nothing airplay

I always thought Midnight City seemed to be on the verge of becoming a huge crossover smash but it just faded away after its initial boost (a bit like Clarity really).

Karmin's Broken Hearted as well - was very successful in the States and seemed to be taking off on iTunes, before just bombing down almost as quickly as it came. I guess Radio 1 snubbing it (I think?) didn't really help matters...

Agreed, especially after it was #11 in the midweeks!! I was hoping it would star top 20 at least

I can't think of any tracks off the top of my head that have underperformed, I agree with alot of the choices made so far though

Spiller and Benny Benassi had poor performing tracks after their debut singles charted well, even though both follow ups were awful

Yeah I always thought Midnight City would be big. Radio 1 still seem to play it at least once a day!

Midnight City was never gonna be THAT big in the charts. The fact it even made the top 40 is a great result for them tbh

'Midnight City' was mostly selling due to being on an ad, so when the ad stopped showing it fell quickly.

Her's wasn't on air, on sale though. At least I don't think it was, since I remember the radio premiere of it (on Radio 1, the only time I ever heard it on the radio apart from when it charted ). I think it's a good song though.

Nicola's definitely was OA/OS, I remember that. Its CD release came like a month afterwards.

It definitely was OA/OS hence why it completed bombed. I reckon it could have had a much higher peak and a decent chart had it been held back a few weeks prior.

'Beat of My Drum' premiered midweek and was released the following Sunday.
Definitely agree with Clarity from that list.

It's Time is probably gonna do fairly well over the next few weeks.

The two Rihanna songs were basically not very good compared to her usual stuff, although they were getting lots of airplay so I guess you could validly say they under-performed.

I don't think you can include Tunnel Vision in the list cos its airplay was only just starting to pick up and they then replaced it with the new single.

Ke$ha/CRJ/Bridgit Mendler - was anyone really expecting them to do that well, I don't they were getting that much airplay were they? Possibly Ke$ha.

I guess you could count Iggy, and yeah definitely Robbie Williams, that should easily have done better, especially with support from Capital! TBH I think it just got lost in the Christmas rush.

After My Heart Takes Over and 30 Days I don't think you can call Gentleman an underperformance, it's pretty much standard, esecially with the shocking lack of airplay it received.

But :o at Bounce's underperformance! I thought that would $ma$h.

Even considering the 'shocking lack of airplay'' (airplay from Capital + R1 + music channels?), Gentleman still did quite poorly imo

(and yeah Bounce hasn't done very well either)

I remember at the time I really thought Girls Can't Catch's 'Echo' would be a top 5 hit, it was everywhere and had pretty much blanket exposure however flopped in at #19 and that was the end of them.

I wasn't too bothered as they were 3 girls devoid of any personality or star quality, but I liked the song.

Not entirely sure if it got lots of airplay in the UK or not, but wouldn't people agree that 'Dance Again' by Jennifer Lopez underperformed? I mean, it was big all over the world but flopped horribly in the UK.

This was at ~1200 when released so I wouldn't call #11 underperforming

It wasn't particularly big around the globe either, scraping in low top 20's in Europe and the US but that was about it

You know that could apply to BOTH "Gentleman"s, right?

PSY's 'Gentleman' actually did extremely well considering it was the second hit from an obvious one hit wonder.
