Perhaps I'm just looning, but I expected Kylie's 'Timebomb' to do better than it did, considering it went as high as #6 on iTunes. Yet in its first full week of sales, it really dropped, even with a performance on The Voice which I think only helped it to stabilise at ~#15. I wasn't expecting it to be a massive success, but at least more so than it was.

PSY's 'Gentleman' actually did extremely well considering it was the second hit from an obvious one hit wonder.

I thought it would be a complete flop!

I think Psy will become known as the one hit wonder who actually had two hits, just soon nobody will remember 'Gentleman'.

I wouldn't say that it massively underperformed because it was by an unknown artist but I thought that Redemption Days by Josh Osho might have at least gone Top 40. It was featured in various adverts during the Olympics last year IIRC, used on various other TV programmes and was playlisted by Radio 1. It sounds like a hit too but I don't think it even went Top 75.
Asaf Avidan - One Day

Huge hit in Europe.

Definitely this! I was so excited when the song looked like it was finally going to blow up, then as soon as it entered the chart at #30 it just dropped. I blame Radio 1 for getting it off their playlist too soon

This is the second time today someone has posted something to this effect - it wouldn't have got anywhere near that high in the first place if R1 hadn't supported it, so it's ridiculous to blame them for it dropping after they remove it...

I'd have preferred having no hope of it taking off than having hope and then having said hope randomly snatched away (when the song was just beginning to take off too, was approaching the iTunes top 15!).

After all the success titanium had, she wolf (falling to pieces) massively under performed

In what universe were any of these ever going to do well?

I think 'Till the World Ends' is very valid - it was huge in the US and was successful in the majority of its charting countries. I suppose after this under-performed, it was obvious 'I Wanna Go' would too, although I'd expected something more than just #111.

I've mentioned 'Timebomb' above; 'Flower' was always going to under-perform due to lack of any airplay outside of Radio 2; and it was clear 'Better Than Today' wouldn't be massive, but with an X Factor performance and an initial Top 20 midweek peak upon physical release, it should have done slightly better.

TTWE would have been massive had airplay touched it at all :( Wasn't an unexpected bomb after 'Hold It Against Me' though - that was the true shocking underperformance of the era.

I did think 'Let It Go' stood a chance of being a top 10 hit until a few weeks before its release it became clear that wouldn't happen, same with 'Timebomb' when it shot into the iTunes top 10, I thought it'd at least peak in the top 15 although it didn't sell too bad considering it was a random track thrown out there and not affiliated with any project.

'Till The World Ends' I assumed would go top 10 and assumed Radio 1 would pick up on it after its OA/OS release but it didn't happen, still that sold quite well (I believe more than the single that preceeded it?). I think her next era will determine if she's over in the UK.

Ke$ha 'C'Mon'. So gutted this under performed after 'Die Young' was a top 10 smash and then seeing 'Crazy Kids' (even with a new remix!) become a decent hit! This song really should have been a lot bigger. I love it so, SO much! :(

EDIT: Also, Ciara's 'Work' really should have been a big hit after 'Love, Sex, Magic' smashed the way it did! A little bit a head of it's time, maybe? Just like 'Like A Boy' :(

'Figure 8' by Ellie Goulding :( . I know it was in heavy rotation on Radio 1 but I'm unsure how it did on other radio stations and music channels, but after the massive hit 'Anything Could Happen' was, I expected it to do better because it sounds just as massive. The reality was that it probably got overshadowed.

As other people have previously mentioned, 'C'Mon' by Ke$ha was also a big underperformance. Perhaps for similar reasons to 'Figure 8' even though it got strong music channel play and a complete lack of radio.

'Already Gone' by Kelly Clarkson was another undeserved flop, such a beautiful song - It did get good music channel support and the controversy of the instrumental being labelled as almost identical to 'Halo' I thought would have helped it out more. In reality, I don't think there was any going back after 'I Do Not Hook Up'...
Kelly is terrible at single choices sometimes ... Dark Side & I Do Not Hook Up killed both eras completely.

Jamelia's "Beware Of The Dog" I was sure would be more than just a #10 hit. It sounded like a #1 smash.

I suppose the problem with Jamelia is that sort of sound was tried by Rachel Stevens not long before with similar results and her album had just flopped pretty spectacularly.

GREAT example with Rachel Stevens. She had like 2 songs that peaked at #10 ("Negotiate With Love" & "So Good") and one that missed the top 10 ("I Said Never Again") that all sounded like huge hits as well.

And the fact that "More More More" easily went top 3. :manson:
