Everyone knows that many songs are reduced to 59p on iTunes in order to try and get the song back into the charts. A current example of this is Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader who are currently at number 19 in the iTunes chart. I want to know what old songs have done really well in the charts now because of their price reduction.

I'm pretty sure 'Play Hard' was only reduced to 59p after it left the top 10.

I believe the highest a song has got purely because of being 59p and absolutely no other reason is #27, first done by Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours' and now matched by Toploader.

Teenage Dirtbag and How To Save A Life also went top 40 because of the 59p effect and no other factors. Teenage Dirtbag did it twice
Far East Movement ft Cover Drive - Turn Up The Love was at #4 on iTunes and #13 in the official chart this time last year because it was 59p.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember Jar of Hearts hovering at full price in the mid-40s, before being reduced to 59p and then shooting up into the Top 10. Of course it was then changed back to 99p and went on to be one of the biggest selling songs of the year.

That's the best performance of a song that was 59p. It went from low 40's to the top 3 on iTunes if I remember correctly.

Shame Arms couldn't have the same effect :(

I think it was due to a price reduction that caused Train's 'Drops of Jupiter' to return to the Top 40 for a few weeks, although this may have been at the same time 'Drive By' was in the charts which would have helped too.
I might be wrong but I think "Ghetto Supastar", "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life" were 59p? They all reached #40 this year.

Ghetto Supastar and Bring Me To Life were. My Immortal went to #40 off the back of a contestant performing it on The Voice (her version went to #30 in the same week)

'Bring Me To Life' was because of Britain's Got Talent (I think it was 59p as well but that wasn't the main reason it re-entered). 'Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)' is the only one of those that was a purely reduction driven re-entry.

Songs this year that have re-entered the top 40 at least primarily due to being 59p:

The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love

Blackstreet feat. Dr. Dre - No Diggity

David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime

The Fray - How To Save A Life

Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

John Legend - Ordinary People

Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody

Nickelback - How You Remind Me

Pras feat. Ol' Dirty Bastard and Mýa - Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)

The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved

Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight

There were a few more before this year (including Wheatus twice as Thermo pointed out) but it's only become commonplace this year.

The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love

It was so funny when Jameela thought the reason for this re-entering was because a football manager called Fergie retired and people thought when they read the headlines that Fergie had retired from the Black Eyed Peas and downloaded this song in tribute

Oh, you'd think I'd remember that. :x Sorry!
