Again! :D

I love it! His voice on the tracks is  There are a lot of 80s songs I'd like to see (re-)enter:

Soft Cell - Tainted Love

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana

Blondie - Call Me

Stevie Wonder - Redemption Song

Bobby Brown - Don't Be Cruel

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax (just to see how they go about playing it )

We've kind of had this return in the top 40 already with Flo Rida sampling Bingo Players which samples PITD
Little Talks in the Top 10 and Losing You in the Top 40 in particular.

It really annoys me how there was never a push for 'Losing You'. I know it was released independently and it was playlisted on Radio 1 but the whole campaign was messy. If it was released 25 years ago, it would be a classic today imo.

I think they'd be fine with playing it. I've heard the song on radio 2 many times and they didn't say anything bad about it lol. Knowing Radio 1 they'll probably moan about how old the song is and Jameela will say "ask your mother" as to who FGTH are!
Restricting selections to songs which were, at most, a minor hit at the time, it would be wonderful to see something by House Of Love finally give them a massive hit. Beatles and the Stones, Shine On and Christine are all great songs. If they had been released for the first time a few years later, they could all have been Britpop classics.
Stevie Wonder - Redemption Song

Or, even better, the Bob Marley original. No version of this classic song has been a big hit in the UK so it would be good to see that change.

Tbf though, Jameela (as nice and funny as she is) is a bit of an idiot regarding these sort of things. She doesn't realise that most listeners actually know of music beyond 2000.

Any version would be welcome but I personally love Stevie's version because of his voice. His version is asking for The X Factor treatment though which I hope it doesn't get.

Ikr. A lot of people that I know who are my age love certain music that was released before 2000, for example AC/DC.
1990s: Shakespears Sister - Stay (again!) Jennifer Paige - Crush, Meredith Brooks - Bitch, Let Loose - Crazy For You, Tony Rich Project - Nobody Knows, Janet Jackson - Again, Eternal - Angel Of Mine, K-Ci & Jojo - All I Have, Honeyz - Finally Found, LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live, Toni Braxton - Un-break My Heart, 4 Non Blondes - What's Up, New Radicals - You Get What You Give, Savage Garden - To The Moon & Back//Truly, Madly, Deeply. As you can see I love the 90s and I Could go on forever!

I thought I liked the 90s too, until you reminded me all those songs were from then! The only one I like at all is Shakespears Sister and I don't really feel like I need to hear that ever again.

If you want some under-appreciated or forgotten (and possibly XF-able?) hits from the 90s, what about 'Independent Love Song' by Scarlet, 'Olympian' by Gene, 'On Your Own' by The Verve?

Yeah me and a lot of my friends love a lot of music pre-2000. I think I'm one of the few who actually loves a lot of modern music too.

More 2000s songs I'd love to see re-enter:

Kelis - Trick Me / Milkshake / Millionaire (feat. Andre 3000)

Outkast - Roses

Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl / Cool

Mariah Carey - It's Like That

Beyonce - Deja Vu (feat. Jay Z)

Destiny's Child - Soldier (feat. T.I. & Lil Wayne)

Sean Paul - Get Busy

Or indeed almost anything else by Gene.

Oh totally, but I can't imagine anyone crooning 'New Amusements' or 'Fighting Fit' or 'As Good As It Gets'.

True  And if they dare try For The Dead, they could soon end up dead themselves.

Ive given up hope of it ever happening, because this song has had so many mini boosts that never quite put it back into the top 40:

Sarah Mclachlan - Angel

far to good a song to only peak in the 30's

I was a teen in the 90s, grew up with the charts every week and remember the chart careers of pretty much every one of those 90s tracks mentioned. Most of them, while being big-hitters, haven't really felt a great chart benefit from the download age, so I'd be glad to see any of them back in the T40! But, I do have a particular soft spot for Scarlett's independent love song - such an underrated gem. I'd also love to see a revival of Joshua kadison's Jessie or Robert miles's one & one, or even tori Amos's professional widow!

Isn't this basically, what are your favourite old songs? Some people are suggesting previous number 1s?

I agree. For starters the average Radio 1 listener is 30-something, so they will obviously know songs pre-2000, and people my age will remember the late 90's, and even songs from before then you can come to know from your parents, from movies, etc. or simply because they're long-lasting hits (e.g. if there's a child that can only remember as far back as 2011, they'd probably still know 2009 songs like I Gotta Feeling since that song is still being played on the radio in 2011).

I'll try and restrict this to old and partially forgotten hits, aside from the obvious "Africa" and "Good Riddance" I'd love Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" to re-enter.

Exactly. I do like Jameela but it's really grating how every single week when a relatively old song re-enters, she has to make some sort of remark about grandparents or "who remembers this?"...

For me.

Uncle Kracker - Follow Me. Would fit in what with Mumford and Sons out right now.

Culture Club - Karma Charmeleon. Would love it if this gem returned to mark 30 years since it reached no.1

Black Box - Ride on time

No Doubt - It's my life

The Feeling - Fill my little world. Never gonna happen but they did some fun songs.
