GaGa only keeps underperforming because her fans keep having ridiculously high expectations for her in the first place. Underperformance is relative to expectation (obviously) so if her fans don't want the general consensus to be "OMG GaGa is flopping!!" then they should reign in the whole "OMG she'll probs be #1 by [insert time]" etc.

GaGa isn't the biggest popstar on the planet and hasn't been since 2010 tbh. Rihanna has pretty much taken over that role (and Katy in the US). Also, Adele but she's not really one of their contemporaries.

So true.

It's not her fans. I am actually getting sick of people blaming them for everything. It's Gaga's overhype that translates into underperformance.

Most of the posts in this thread yesterday pretty much proves my point. Obviously not all her fans overhype her but a lot of them do and it hinders the general public's perception of her rather than helps.

But it's mainly her fans who overhype her :P

That's what all fans do though. Calling Born This Way the best album of the decade killed her chances of getting any credibility out of it.

Did Lady GaGa say that herself or do you mean her fans?

Hmm, sounding dated never hurt Olly Murs!
Down to opinion obviously, but I think Olly Murs' stuff sounds a lot more relevant and fresh compared to a lot of stuff in the charts atm. (That's even with the overplay from radio/casual listening I give his stuff )

I believe she said that Born This Way would be 'the album of our generation' or something like that

True, the minute the single got available, you had fans here claiming Ellie didn't stand a single chance against Gaga and that "Burn" would be overtaken in a matter of hours.

I do think a lot of the fans need to accept that she isn't as mainstream as she was some years ago. She still has a rabid fanbase that will eat up whatever she releases and that will continue for a while i suspect. I also don't think it's fair to call her a flop or over given how she's currently the #1 artist on iTunes and topping the album and singles chart pretty much everywhere. That's not to say that this will last past tomorrow because let's face it, it is precisely her fans that have allowed this to happen but with the right material and attitude she can easily bounce back as she'll have the dedicated fans to push her slightly past the edge of artists that don't.

Applause has the chance to do decently in the UK and the US but it's far to early to tell.

She said it herself.

I'm sure she said/meant she wanted to give her FANS the album of the decade for them (in terms of what it means for them) not actually the most critically acclaimed LP to be released.

Even so, while that's not Gaga's fault, the quote could still be misinterpreted by the media, the public and the critics to give the impression that she's overhyping herself.

Wow at least she's honest I guess. But considering even a lot of her fans (all of them from what I've seen) prefer The Fame/The Fame Monster albums to BTW, that is a hilarious statement. She really doesn't help herself. Most pop icons and legends don't set out to be what they become (well they at least don't show it) while GaGa tries to force the idea that she's a musical God on us too much. The competition she's set up today which encourages fans to multi-purchase her song is also too far and won't do her any favours.

I think my prediction that she'll end up #4 is looking to be correct.

I can see 'Applause' sticking around longer than people think. The hype for her has definitely waned since the last era, but I can see 'Applause' getting the casual fans back on her side, slowly. I just think that for now in the US at least, Katy is a lot more relateable and much more likeable to the general public than GaGa, which is why I think Katy will outperform GaGa in every way this era. But both have great songs though, so I'm willing for both to be huge smashes!

I completely agree. She puts across that she is the greatest thing to happen to music, her monsters soak this up like a sponge and get sucked into believing it to. She is not the greatest thing to happen to music and she is no longer as relevant to the mainstream music public as she was after the first album.

The only person that can get away with releasing a single straight away in the UK and it going to number 1 is probably Rihanna IMO .

I think you're right. Not even One Direction can go to #1 with an OA/OS single (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think OWOA(TK) and LT were OA/OS, they were just released quickly)

Although if Katy Perry released Roar OA/OS she may have been a #1 contender.

 9 Ray Foxx ft Rachel K Collier- Boom Boom (Heartbeat)

 10 The WANTED- We Own The Night

You're right, OWOA was available as a pre order since mid to late January and LT was only charting because the album was out the same week!

I think Lady Gaga will be top 3 by Sunday and Ellie will get her number one at last!

That's the problem that both GaGa and a lot of her fans don't realise. Completely overhyping herself so early in her career is fantastic for the short-term but extremely damaging long-term. Just look at Spice Girls who were very similar in that sense. They were EVERYWHERE in 1996/7 and the hype that they, their team and their fans created was so HUGE that they were never going to be able to continue on that level (even if Geri didn't leave). GaGa has tried every trick in the book with her outrageous outfits at every big event (the meat dress, the dressing up as a guy, the egg ) to the point where she has nowhere new to go and the same can be said for her music. Most bold, daring popstars do things slowly and don't use up all their tricks and gimmicks in the first two years of their career. The 10 minute videos for nearly every song in her last era is another example. Yes the 'Paparazzi' and 'Telephone' videos were great but repeating the gimmick over and over again just kills it eventually. If GaGa wanted to rebuild popularity, then maybe she should've come back with an understated release first.

That's fantastic for Ray Foxx, didn't expect top 10 just hope it can stay there and climb on Sunday! It's not looking good for The Wanted I'm thinking this could be their first non album single to miss the top 10 as its sales are falling fast I think they may need a major re think for their next era as this one doesn't seem to be going too well but we will have to wait and see where it charts on Sunday!
