September 2, 201311 yr 'Lonely Hearts Club' is so low and ridiculously under appreciated. :( I'm surprised 'How To Be A Heartbreaker' is as low as it is though! I thought it'd be top 15 with ease, considering this is Buzzjack and it was a single! Not sure if I'm happy with it being that low or not tbh... 'Are You Satisfied?' will hopefully do better than I'm predicting it to do. Hopefully somewhere in the top 10 but I'm expecting it to miss out.

Average: 8.145 Also just missing out on a top 10 placing is the opening track of 'The Family Jewels', 'Are You Satisfied?'. We were introduced to Marina's lovely ego with this song, lyrics include "It's not my problem / is my problem / that I am never happy / my problem is my problem on how fast I will succeed". Okay, maybe not so ego-centric but it come across like that, with the BBC writing in their review of the album that this song they hope was written in character. I for one enjoy this song immensely, it has actually grown on me even more since I rated. (How is this possible?) It still sounds SO fresh 3 years on, lyrically it is up there with her best, I mean, "it's my problem if I have no friends and feel I want to die", "sad inside, in this life, praying", "it's my problem that I am never happy" <-- HOW HONEST AND RELATABLE ARE THESE LYRICS?! Sonically, it is up there with the likes of 'Hollywood' and 'Shampain' as the most pop-influenced songs on 'The Family Jewels' although having a slighty pop rock backing, the song's chorus is slick and catchy pop all the way. This, again, would have translated brilliantly as a single commercially had it been released. Perhaps the most radio-friendly Marina song EVER? NME gave the song a spot-on review, they wrote, "Asking ‘Are You Satisfied?’, the album opens with a flurry of vocal acrobatics, as Marina works her way dramatically across a genius, soaring pop opera that gives Cyndi Lauper’s ritzy histrionics a run for their money. Riding the same new wave of hen-night pop as Music Go Music, lyrically it serves as the first dip into Marina’s shadowy psyche, with incongruous lines like “It’s my problem if I have no friends and feel I want to die”." September 3, 201311 yr I would guess Teen Idle as the next one but I do hope not because it is stunning. Are You Satisfied is very good too, underrated it a lot until recently.
September 3, 201311 yr Author http://i.imgur.com/cFS9g2v.png #11 'Numb' Average: 8.161 UNLUCKY #11 is indeed the glorious Howe-produced 'Numb'. I fail to understand why Howe and Marina don't just do an entire album together. It is the only Marina album track to ever chart on the UK Singles Chart, it peaked at #135 upon the release of 'The Family Jewels'. So it has outpeaked other Marina singles with music videos etc such as 'Shampain' and 'Power & Control'. Another deeply emotional song it tells a story about Marina's success-depression libra scale similar to the one told in 'Valley of the Dolls'. According to BuzzJack this should have been the 5th single released from 'The Family Jewels' instead of 'Shampain', ranking in as the highest rated album track with no music video from the album. Once again I am lost for words to describe this epic song, so I'm just going to let NME do the talking for me. In their review, they described 'Numb' as follows: "the bombastic and introspective ‘Numb’, on which a choir of moody Marinas sing about sacrifice over swooning strings and trembling piano, shining with the vibrancy and technical triumph of a ‘Running Up That Hill’-era Kate Bush. A pleasant surprise for anyone who was expecting just another laboriously ‘kooky’ pop maiden." September 3, 201311 yr Author Which means the following have made the top 10 but the question is in which order? :drama: 'I Am Not a Robot' 'Mowgli's Road' 'Obsessions' 'Hollywood' 'Oh No!' 'Primadonna' 'Lies' 'Teen Idle' 'Fear and Loathing' 'Radioactive' 5 from each album but WHO WILL WIN? :bounce:
September 3, 201311 yr Five 9's, three 10's, one 11 and her worst song (Primadonna HAI or even better... BYE) made it. MIXED EMOTIONS. Obsessions must win. Which won't happen. I predict a 8th place finish for it. Way too many people being SUPER SILLY/DEAF/DUMB thinking Electra Heart is better than The Family Jewels. September 3, 201311 yr Numb is amazing and I'm glad that it's the highest rated non-single track from TFJ
September 3, 201311 yr Oh FFS Buzzjack!! Numb lower than Hollywood and I Am Not a Robot! Aren't we better than this? Obvo not.
September 3, 201311 yr Oh FFS not Numb. Best song she's done. And in a discography this amazing that's no small praise. Either Mowgli's Road or Oh No need to win this now.
September 3, 201311 yr There are six songs left I'd be happy to see win. SIX. That's some strong discog work. ('Numb' should have been top ten over Hollywood and Primadonna but heyyyy can't win em all)

A key character in the story of 'Electra Heart', it is one of the album's four archetypes. The story behind the song originated from when Marina was travelling the US after the release of 'The Family Jewels'. Marina explained the concept as follows: "I was starting to think about our Tumblr generation, and how photos appear on Tumblr and people become almost like mini-stars of the internet, and you don't know who the hell they are—they're just anonymous faces. So I started to take photos, and make an effort to look completely different in each one, in different hotels and apartments all across America when I was travelling. And it just started to build from that. It was more the prima donna archetype at the beginning, really; I was reading a lot of books like Hollywood Babylon, focusing more on the gossipy, suicidal side of the '30s and '40s in Hollywood. That's how it started, and then it grew into a real project." 'Teen Idle' is yet another Liam Howe production which has finished highly in this rate, the song also received critical acclaim with many critics noting that it was the Howe production on 'Electra Heart' which were the stand-outs on the album. The song also reveived vocal praise from fellow depressed songbird Lana Del Rey, which is no surprise as 'Teen Idle' would easily fit onto her 'Born to Die' album and the song is basically the sister to 'Summertime Sadness'. BuzzJack feels that this song would have made a better single than the likes of 'Power & Control' and 'How to Be a Heartbreaker'. Lyrically, it is Marina's most depressing song with her claiming that she is "Super super super suicidal" - one of the song's many key hooks. Marina talked about this song in an interview: "I originally got the idea for the song seeing a jumper at a fashion show that had huge holes on it with ‘Teen Idle’ emblazoned across the front. Lyrically, it’s a strange song as it crosses polar opposite themes – innocence and darkness. I had waited a long time to write that song and it helped me acknowledge some experiences that I’d had in my teenage years. Ages 16-20 were kind of blackout years for me- Like I didn’t even live them or they didn’t belong to my life. I don’t really remember them. It’s most definitely one of my fan base’s favorite songs on ‘Electra Heart’. I’m really proud of it. The nicest thing about being an artist is realizing that a feeling or experience you had that you always thought was really obscure or embarrassing, is in fact very common, and that we all deal with pretty much the same stuff in one way or another." I bet she isn't feeling too super super super about this being ranked as one of her top 10 songs of all-time though! The Loons: 11.0 Marina XCX 10.0 Mariah Scary 10.0 JosephStyles 10.0 Eyes 10.0 Doug 10.0 Liam 10.0 randomfurlong 10.0 Ashley 09.5 Kath 09.5 Rabbit Heart 09.5 Escapar82 09.0 Pavel 09.0 Lukuzz 09.0 Toby 09.0 Cremey 09.0 Klumzee The Haters: 03.0 THEO. 04.0 O Mie d'Applause The Rankings 10. September 3, 201311 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/08/Marinaprimadonna.jpg/220px-Marinaprimadonna.jpg #9 'Primadonna' Average: 8.306 The lead single from 'Electra Heart' finishes in a respectable ninth place. It is Marina's most successful single to-date, peaking at #11 in the UK for two non-consecutive weeks. Following the chaotic 'Radioactive'-gate, which was later deemed a 'buzz single' by Marina herself, 'Primadonna' did the job in achieving the success 'Radioactive' should have achieved first. It was also Marina's first international crossover hit, peaking within the top 5 in Austria, Hungary and New Zealand, and the top 20 in Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Switzerland. Despite being her biggest hit for the general public, it was not her biggest hit with BuzzJack, it proved less popular than 3 of its 'Electra Heart' peers; 'Lies', 'Fear and Loathing' and 'Radioactive'. 'Primadonna' marked the first time Marina collaborated with big-name commercial producers Dr. Luke, and Cirkut well-known for their productions for pop princesses Katy Perry and Ke$ha. Diamandis came up with the title for the track in July 2011. Recorded in October 2011, 'Primadonna' was the last song to be recorded for 'Electra Heart'. Diamandis has said of the song: "It's about not needing anybody when it comes to love—your raison d'etre is to live for adoration. Girls usually feel like this when they are not appreciated in a relationship. The inspiration for the song came from an ex-boyfriend. He thought it was funny that I was a mega drama queen always talking 'global love' this, 'global love' that! He called me a prima donna. I love it but I also kind of hate it. Like they say, 'You only hate in others what you hate in yourself', so I thought I'd channel this well-known but kind of undesirable character type into a pop song. As the saying goes (that I just made up): You've either been one or dated one at least once in your life." The song was compared to Kate Bush vocally and to the movie Mean Girls lyrically. It was accompanied by a very glamorous and moody music video which sees Marina faking many facial expressions, riding a fitness bike at home, hiding behind very expensive curtains, lying next to a tortoise, sitting next to a dog, picking an apple from a tree, sitting dissatisfied in a cab et al. The music video was directed by Casper Balslev and shot in Copenhagen. It serves as the fourth part of the Electra Heart series, for which Balslev also directed the videos for part 1 ('Fear and Loathing') and part 2 ('Radioactive'). The video premiered on 12 March 2012, the same day as the song's release to UK radio. Two days prior to the video's release, Diamandis released a fifteen-second preview of the video. It is also Marina's most viewed music video on YT with over 27 million views. Marina performs the smash hit regularly in an acoustic version as well, which if you haven't heard yet, is a must-listen.
