Same Love  #7

I swear the UK chart is f***ed up most of the time. The wrong type of songs always go to #1 here, there's a lack of continuity a lot of the time as well.

Lack of continuity? It's going to be a bit stupid though, since in the future people are going to look and see Hold On charting really high and think it's his biggest song, when really all this means is that the iTunes crowd are hearing it on Capital FM.

This begs the question why is with this song? why not songs like "Headlines", "Started From The Bottom", "I'm On One" as well?

I don't remember all of those songs but I'd assume because it's got far wider appeal than most of his material, certainly to the record-buying public over Started From The Bottom at least. I'm surprised by how well it's doing but it's definitely won round a few people who aren't normally fans of Drake (myself included), and it's not the sort of track that's going to make anyone turn off the radio.

Of course there is a reason for that, it's radio-friendly unlike the others. And high charters have never been a solid indication of which songs are an artist's biggest before.

Hold On We're Going Home is definitely the best thing I've heard from Drake since Take Care, its a worthy candidate for becoming his biggest hit.

Well not quite seeing as it's looking to be his biggest hit worldwide, so there's surely something with it that's connecting with the public and not just increased radio play.

Iz is right, his early singles were never going to set the charts alight especially as he wasn't the household name he is now. He's built his career from the bottom (i feel a song coming out of this) and has played the card right with this single which is taking off globally. Good for him and hopefully it means more people check out his earlier material too which is just as, if not stronger than Hold On for the most part.

Also, it's daft to try and quantify how big a song is while it's still climbing. In twelve months no one other than Eric and Pablo will give the tiniest shit about "Started From The Bottom" but "Hold On, We're Going Home" will stick in the mind far better.

Hold On is nowhere near his most radio friendly song though. That's why I was saying it seems random which ones do well in the charts.

I think it's probably a behind the scenes thing, and his record label have decided to push him more in the UK or something to get more sales out of him.

I disagree. This new one is much more radio friendly than the likes of his other singles like 'Over', 'Started From the Bottom', 'HYFR', 'The Motto', 'Headlines'. et al. The more radio friendly ones ('Find Your Love', 'Take Care' & now this one) have been the biggest chart hits from his respective eras over here. The US works completely differently to us. They've always been much more Urban and more into their Hip-Hop/Rap than we have.

I don't understand how Take Care is more radio-friendly than, say, Best I Ever Had or Headlines. Those songs have lots of synths, very strong melodies. Take Care wouldn't have done anything without Rihanna imo.

I think another thing is that radio and the charts have changed a lot recently. With more laid-back, more minimal, songs like Blurred Lines and Get Lucky dominating, the mainstream is more Drake-friendly than it was a few years ago.

I LOVE Started from the Bottom - possibly his only decent hit along with Take Care.

This new song is pap.

2 Drake

Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)

Ah dinet understand :/

'IF it manages top 10 this week, a chart run of 25-20-9 would look really bizarre. laugh.gif I think it could potentially outpeak 'Can't Hold Us' but I think it being their second #1 is a very big ask. Again, I think it'll just mirror 'Just Give Me A Reason' - a high-selling top 3 hit which keeps missing out on the #1.'

Except much better.

Radio won't play it though.

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball has officially been sent to Uk Radio's and will be released on Sunday, should hopefully go top 3 next week! I expect it will have an incredibly long chart run!

I agree, it sounds like something that would have a long chart run.

I think the instrumental to the song is really good personally, and the song is a nice contrast to We Can't Stop. I like it when I see pop stars releasing songs that sound different.

You Me At Six huge success last week and now Arcade Fire look set to have a new UK top 40 after 8 years. :o

Just wondering if Chvrches' The Mother We Share could be a surprise hit next week. ^_^

glad to see Same Love in the top 10.... it was subjected to a huge injustice in the States by being stuck at number 11 for 5 weeks while it was selling way more than the 6-10 positions....

hope it goes top 10 in the UK and pave way for more gay themed songs....

..

Well, Elton John has new material due, if that counts...

If not for The Weeknd's release this week I'd say Drake would still be at like #4. Not much but still helping <3

ROAR is not SO strong anymore... maybe WB can do a number 1? The video effect rule the WHOLE world not only in the US...

Arcade Fire should have much more single success to their credit than what they have. They have had some excellent singles and have released extremely solid strong albums. I hope the new era can build on previous success and increase.

Drake is at Number 2 this morning??? WT-actual-F :o

Yup!!

I hope Miley Cyrus can get a second no.1. A Miley Cyrus-Elie Goulding-Katy Perry-Miley Cyrus- Lady GaGa no.1 chart run would be the best of all time, even better than the 1-runners of 2000 when really good songs would follow each other. Still can't believe Hannah Montana is getting top 10s though in 2013 haha!
