Awful scenes on the news from Las Vegas. So much sadness in the world.

It won't make a jot of difference to the gun laws though.

Not one bit Laura, you are right there , it's not on the horizon at any time in the future . I guess though of you grow up in a country where it is normal to have guns in your house etc you would not think twice about the consequences but things can go wrong around guns as we have so often heard with kids getting killed etc . The blame has to go on the person that do terrible things like this , they make that decision in their own heads , they are just bad people

There was a discussion on Radio London this morning about this.

Someone who works there explained that the British would never understand the right to bear arms and how much that means to main stream America. It's a way of life in U.S.

A point was then made about the difference between an individual owning a hand gun to defend themselves and someone being able to buy automatic weapons that can mow down scores of people.

As far as I know in Switzerland every Household keeps the Sig Sauer Gun people used while they do their military service. So in almost every Household is a gun. But you do not hear about massacres like this there.

I think that there are many people who feel left behind in America which creates a certain atmosphere of violence, aside of psycipaths obviously whom you could find everywhere.

This said, the atmosphere is getting more violent everywhere, even in countries like Germany which had been an oasis of peace the last 40 years.

I thought we had a RANT thread on here but cannot find it

Anyways :

1. My phone is locked & I cannot get it unlocked until Friday

2. My laptop is playing up so I hope it's not on death's door

:arrr:

I think people like that guy in America like to go out in a blaze of glory , they want to be remembered , in their own heads they always have a grudge against someone ...

We've had a bad week as well, the hot water and central heating decided to conk out (a neighbour thankfully fixed it, a fuse), the television has decided to give up working.

Can this week please get better? :P

Ryanair offering a better deal to their pilots , wonders will never cease :o

I've never flown with Ryan Air. They sound rubbish though. We use Easyjet. I think they're pretty good.

Hope things got better Flatcap & all the bad luck came together :o

Think it must have done, a wall socket decided to stop working and a leak under the sink. All fixed, new television coming tomorrow and the new sky box arriving a week later. Phew.

Christmas shopping as well as family birthdays to do tomorrow.

Haven't seen a post from Mr. Big lately. I hope that Florida is continuing to get back to normal.

Things are slowly getting back to normal round my area, but, methinks other areas that were harder hit by Irma than I was will take months, perhaps years, to get back to normal. There all kinds of piles of brush (i.e. downed tress/tree limbs) that have yet to be picked up/removed from curbside all over the place round me....we were happy when power was restored after being out a week here at chez biggy....no damage to house or cars here, but, as I think I may have previously posted, a neighbor lost 80% of their wooden fence round their back yard, the winds just toppled it into their yard...and another neighbor lost their aluminum carport from their driveway....and a couple of other houses 2 streets away had a very large oak tree land upon their roofs....those 2 homes looked as if the roof damage wasn't very bad at all....

Will the insurance companies be pushing their premiums up? That's normally what happens here.

With the possibility of a postal strike, I have to be prepared Laura. Usually post some presents up north to family, as well as cards including one to New Zealand.

It's quite possible the insurance companies would raise rates for those making claims...then again, there are very few insurance companies doing business here in Florida for home or business insurance, as a lot of the companies that've left over the past few years were crying poverty from all the past hurricanes/tropical storms/tornadoes/flooding over the past 15 years or so....I know my parents are paying round about 2200 USD every 6 months for insurance from a carrier of last resort, so to speak, since no other companies are willing to insure the house, and some of these places that DO offer any kind of homeowner's insurance make the homeowner jump through all kinds of hoops for this inspection or that inspection, only for that company to say no to insuring the home....I know quite a few people here in Florida who don't have any homeowner insurance, and they still have 10 years of mortgage payments...don't know how it is in Europe, but here in the US, anyone who has a mortgage out on their home is required to have homeowner insurance...when my parents paid off the house here in Florida, the insurance company they did have dropped them like a fresh-from-the-oven baked potato, and they had 0 claims with that insurance company for the house...all comes down to greed for the insurance companies, and them wanting to get as much as they can from someone before the person's dropped from the company...[end rant]

I booked hotel rooms in Dubin for end of June next year , I hope to get tickets this week for Roger Waters ( Pink Floyd ) show which is coming there next summer :cheer:

The price of hotel rooms in Dublin is outrages

Ireland beat Wales last night 1-0 in the WC qualifier

There are certain areas here where you cannot get insurance Mr B, in particular areas that are prone to flooding , in some cases they will insure but with plenty exclusions

I am glad that everything went well enough for you , it must be very scary when those hurricanes arrive , I hate the wind , makes me really nervous

Thanks for the update Biggy.
