I am sick of the whole thing , first official case here announced this evening, someone that came back from Italy

We got a notification at work on Friday to say that we had to tell the company if we were travelling to a country where the virus had been found  .

Oh yes - because you travel a lot don't you Tess?

There was an interesting discussion on LBC this morning about the pros and cons of two different opinions on what should happen should there be thousands of cases here.

1. Put towns on lockdown which means they could be open to civil unrest if the security services are on lockdown too. What happens to productivity.

2. Let people take their chances. Carry on as normal using sensible precaution and wait for most to get over it and come out the other side. Possibly more people could pass away.

Also a discussion on whether it has peaked in China now or it's just a pause.

My daughter's wedding venue (a permanent marquee) has been flooded by a river bursting its banks. They're not taking anymore bookings and can't "guarantee" when they will be open again. :o

They've found a new venue now - better than the first (that had been booked for over a year) so it could be all's well that ends well provided they get their deposit back.

Good to hear that Laura , it must be quite a relief, I hope they get their money back, they should hopefully . I bet you are looking forward to the big day . it will be lovely

The email to the employees was a bit of a waste of time though Laura as we now know the virus is actually here in this country so it makes little difference . The economy world wide is going to get quite a lash given that a lot of products are made in China & they are now having a short supply this side of the world so it will start affecting jobs if it's not got under control quickly plus the health issues it's causing.

You know someone spreading a virus around the world was always one of my worst fears , let's hope it does not get any worse & they somehow get it under control

Looks like St Patricks day celebrations will be cancelled

The world has gone mad

It's already having quite bit economic effects isn't it. The stock markets aren't doing very well.

We just have to wait and see what happens in the next month or so.

Have things settled a bit in China? It seems like all the new patients are outside of China.

I'll have to run my Mother of the Bride outfit up on an old Singer sewing machine.

It's my Mums. She got it as a 19th birthday present (1956)

It weighs about ten stone and I have it not really knowing what to do with it next. I can sew on it but I never use it.

Alcohol kills germs. It's a scientific fact. :hic:

The Corona virus , is this going to be a new way of life until they find something to treat it , it brings home to you how much we take ordinary things in our lives for granted , freedom of travel etc . I get the feeling that this is going to be one of those 'weird ' years ...

I think they did similar in China, no?

Yes - but somehow China felt distant and unconnected.

What's happening in Italy could be all of us in two weeks time and it feels close.

Now you have to think about everything before you do it , I was never so conscious of people around me in all my life

I'm taking it more seriously than the rest of my family. I think they're too blasé about it.

Maybe if I were 25 I would be blasé too but the reports I see on TV scare me. I am worried about it.

Also - I think it's madness they have let Cheltenham take place. A lot of people packed into one area is asking for trouble.

There was a debate on the main Coronavirus thread in The Lounge over whether the government should have banned flights to Italy much sooner, I think they should have but some others disagreed.
