September 16, 201312 yr Author Midweek Charts: Arctic Monkeys set for second week at No 1 Source: MW by Paul Williams Arctic Monkeys' AM is holding back an avalanche of big new releases as it looks to top the UK artist albums chart for a second week. There are currently eight brand new albums in the midweek Top 10 but Domino-issued AM, which debuted at No 1 last Sunday with 157,329 copies sold, continues to rule, according to Official Charts Company data. Immediately below it are a quartet of new albums led by Avicii's Positiva/PRMD debut True at No 2, while Columbia act Manic Street Preachers arrive at 3 with Rewind The Film, Elton John is new at 4 in the week so far with the Mercury/Virgin EMI-issued The Diving Board and Dramatico's Katie Melua slots in at No 5 with Ketevan. The success of Avicci's new album is accompanied by what could be two simultaneous Top 10 singles this weekend for him with his former No 1 Wake Me Up dropping 4-6 in the midweeks, while follow-up You Make Me is showing up as a new entry at No 4. Rewind The Film looks like becoming the Manics' 11th Top 10 album and follows last studio album Postcards From A Young Man reaching No 3 in 2010 and the retrospective National Treasures - The Complete Singles making it to No 10 in 2011. The Diving Board is Elton John's first new studio album in his own right since 2006's The Captain And The Kid, which reached No 6, and its sales are no doubt being aided by a ITV special screened last Friday evening to mark him becoming the first Brits Icon winner. Since his last solo album he reached No 12 in 2010 with The Union with Leon Russell and topped the chart last year with Good Morning To The Night with Pnau. Ketevan is Katie Melua's sixth album and follows Secret Symphony, which peaked at No 8 last year, while it is joined in the week-so-far Top 10 by four other brand new albums. Two come from UK rock bands with Deaf Havana's BMG-handled Old Souls at No 7 and Temperance Movement's self-titled Earache debut at No 9. Sitting between them is Jack Johnson with his new Brushfire/Island set From Here To Now To You. His previous three studio albums all reached No 1 in the UK. Back on a major, Placebo are aiming for their sixth Top 10 album with the Vertigo/Virgin EMI-issued Loud Like Love currentlty new at No 10. Given the onslaught of new releases, the only other survivors from last Sunday's Top 10 apart from the Arctic Monkeys are London Grammar whose Metal & Dust/Ministry of Sound debut If You Wait entered at No 2 and is now down to No 6. Warner Bros's Jason Derulo is heading for his third UK No 1 single after In My Place and Don't Wanna Go Home with Talk Dirty featuring 2 Chainz comfortably leading the way at this stage of the week. Its sales up until the end of Tuesday were just a couple of thousand shy of 100,000, giving it a lead of about 60,000 units over Virgin act Katy Perry's Roar, which drops 1-2. There are two other brand new entries in the top five in the week to date with the Universal-issued It's My Party at 3 set to give Jessie J her eighth Top 10 hit and, as reported above, Avicii's You Make Me is at 4. Interscope/Polydor act OneRepublic's Counting Stars falls 2-5 above Avicci's Wake Me Up at No 6, while Christina Perri's 2011 Atlantic single A Thousand Stars flies 95-7 after being covered by X Factor contestant Nicholas McDonald in a performance screened last weekend. Although he topped the UK artist albums chart last year with Good Morning To The Night in conjunction with Pnau, he has not cracked the top five with a new studio set since Songs From The West Coast reached No 2 a dozen years ago. However, that looks likely to change this weekend with his new Mercury/Virgin EMI offering currently showing up as a enw entry at No 3 in the midweeks, according to the Official Charts Company, around a 1,000 sales ahead of Manic Street Preachers' newly-issued Columbia title Rewind The Film at No 4. Albums are looking good again this week, I think Arctic Monkeys will get a 2nd week at number 1 probably on 60-70k with Avicii at 2 and Elton John at 3 maybe... Sadly Derulo will get to number 1 on sales of about 140-150k :puke: But looking like a good week for Avicii, can't believe You Make Me could go top 5...I only expected low top 10 but now I love the track and I'm pleased its doing well

This was off the back of a #3 single from the album, and the album was released by a major record label. If Diana can get similar sales with an independent release, I'll be ecstatic. September 18, 201312 yr I'm sticking my neck out on the line and predicting sales of 190-200k for Jason Derulo :) That seems wildly optimistic - he's only outselling Katy by ~2-1, and she's probably going to be selling <70k this week. I would guess 150k max, maybe closer to 130k.
September 18, 201312 yr No matter how you spin it, it's a terrible way to follow a #1 album. I'm not disagreeing but to be fair, 3 years is a lifetime in pop and for a while I never thought this album would be released. Plus also she got dropped by her record label a couple of years ago too, I was thinking it'd scrape the top 40 so it's doing better than I thought.
