September 25, 201311 yr Author Unofficial: Girl Group Best Sellers of the 21st Century As far as I am aware, there hasn't been a similar list compiled for girl groups, unfortunately. :( Not sure if one is scheduled either. I had a go at compiling my own list. I found out that 44 girl group singles released in the 21st Century have sold in excess of 200,000 (according to the BPI certifications). I searched around for sales and I found lots from numerous sources. They're quite varied - some are from this year, but others are from as long ago as 2009/2010. It's a mixture of official sales and estimations. Note, I've not included duos. I also find the figure for 'Jai Ho!' surprisingly high, which I've discussed more towards the bottom of this post. If anyone has more accurate sales / better estimations, please feel free to put them forward, and with a source if you have one! Remember, this is not official, it's just guess work. Here we are: 01. [1,000,000]Atomic Kitten - Whole Again 02. [770,000] All Saints - Pure Shores 03. [660,000] Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground 04. [590,000] The Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha 05. [550,000] The Pussycat Dolls - Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) 06. [530,000] Girls Aloud - The Promise 07. [520,000] Sugababes - About You Now 08. [470,000] Destiny's Child - Independent Women 09. [470,000] Little Mix - Cannonball 10. [470,000] Stooshe - Black Heart 11. [460,000] Sugababes - Push The Button 12. [453,500] Little Mix - Wings 13. [446,800] Atomic Kitten - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) 14. [412,500] Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame 15. [376,300] The Saturdays - What About Us 16. [346,000] The Saturdays - Up 17. [210,000] Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You 39. [200,000+] The Saturdays - All Fired Up 40. [200,000+] The Pussycat Dolls - I Hate This Part 41. [200,000+] The Pussycat Dolls - Buttons 42. Singles that would probably be just outside the Top 50: Girls Aloud - Biology, Girls Aloud - Something New, Mis-Teeq - Scandalous & Sugababes - Overload. Sources: 01 - 'Whole Again' passed the million mark in April 2013. https://twitter.com/randomfurlong/status/321209676882665472 02/03/04 & 06/07/08/09/10/11 - These sales were revealed in March 2013 as part of Magic TV's "The Official Sales 100: Girls of the 21st Century" count down. The sales are from February 2013: http://fatherandy2.proboards.com/thread/77...ls-21st-century. 05 - This sale was revealed in March 2013 as part of Magic TV's "The Official Sales 100: Should've Been No.1s!" count down (sale from February 2013). Strangely, 'Jai Ho' doesn't feature at all in the previous "Girls of the 21st Century" count down, which perhaps means that this high sale could be in error? 550k does seem very high for it, considering it was only on 415,000 by the end of December 2009. I'm not sure. http://fatherandy2.proboards.com/thread/77...-songs-1s-c21st 12 - 'Wings' via Vidcapper from July 2013: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=4381803 (also 'DNA'). 13/14 - These sales were revealed in September 2009: http://forums.denden.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=3419713#p3419713 Below 14th: Atomic Kitten - Sales are from September 2009: http://forums.denden.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=3419713#p3419713 Destiny's Child - Estimated sales are from July 2013: http://fatherandy2.proboards.com/post/1776255/thread Girls Aloud - Most of their sales are from April 2010: http://www.mtv.co.uk/music/charts/official...official-top-20 bar 'Love Machine' and 'Can't Speak French' which were confirmed to have sold over 200,000 in July 2013, due to being certified (precise sales unknown). September 25, 201311 yr "Jai Ho!" probably wasn't included in the Girls of the 21st Century listing as the lead artist was AR Rahman
September 25, 201311 yr "Jai Ho!" probably wasn't included in the Girls of the 21st Century listing as the lead artist was AR Rahman They share top billing with him on the song though. Nicole Scherzinger oddly enough got a separate featuring credit.
September 25, 201311 yr As she was after solo success at the time to try and appear credible after massive flops, remember? Dear god Westlife are the worst band of all time IMO. 27. [250,000] Spice Girls - Holler / Let Love Lead The Way This should have sold a million
September 25, 201311 yr They share top billing with him on the song though. Nicole Scherzinger oddly enough got a separate featuring credit. She featured on Hush Hush Hush Hush as well. No wonder they split up shortly after. :(
September 26, 201311 yr Ths Sugababes 'Hole In The Head' hasn't even sold 200k? :o I know it was released in the low sales period, but it *was* a #1 (not to mention my fav SB song).
September 26, 201311 yr Ths Sugababes 'Hole In The Head' hasn't even sold 200k? :o I know it was released in the low sales period, but it *was* a #1 (not to mention my fav SB song). I seem to remember it was deleted on the week of released or something - but I'm guessing that would be common knowledge around here so I must be mitsaken. It is wonderful.
September 26, 201311 yr I wouldn't have thought it was deleted on the week of release, it did have 4 weeks in the top 10 in a 13-week Top 75 run Sugababes - Hole In The Head - (13 Weeks) 25/10/2003 -{1}-5-6-8-19-25-39-42-58-70-72-69-69
September 26, 201311 yr Author I actually recall news that it had been deleted! Impossible to find evidence though, ha.
September 26, 201311 yr Perhaps it was just one format that was deleted? Usually back then, there was a CD 1 and a CD 2, so perhaps one of those were deleted?
September 26, 201311 yr Sugababes - Freak Like Me That has sold far less than I thought! As has Round Round and Black Coffee - they released in the low period for sales unfortunately, as did the Spices with Holler.
September 26, 201311 yr I remember when that awful song beat Britney to no.1 with the far superior song.
September 27, 201311 yr Didn't realise Shine had sold that much, early 2007 was such a poor time for singles sales. Glad to see The Flood has comfortably outsold Greatest Day, it really should have been a #1, whereas the latter should definitely not have been!
September 27, 201311 yr Can't believe McFly's first two singles don't feature in the Top 50 - I know 'Five Colours' and 'Obviously' were both released during a low sales period but both were reasonably big Number 1 singles so I find it hard to believe that they sold less than 185k! Edited September 27, 201311 yr by mango
September 27, 201311 yr All I can say is thank god "Take That" reformed or the cringy and dismal One Direction would be so undeservingly top of the boyband singles.
