October 11, 201311 yr Author Unlucky # 11. I'll Stand By You SeEq2tlD6WY "I'll Stand by You" is a 1994 song recorded by The Pretenders from their sixth studio album "Last of the Independents". Written by Chrissie Hynde in collaboration with the songwriting team of Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg (who used the melody from Johann Sebastian Bach's Minuet for Lovers), it was the Pretenders' most recent significant hit single, and their last successful single in North America. In 2004, the British all-female pop group Girls Aloud recorded a cover of "I'll Stand by You" as the official Children in Need charity single. "I'll Stand by You" debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on 21 November 2004, becoming Girls Aloud's second single to do so. Despite competition from four new top ten entries, the song also remained at the top for a second week. It slipped to number four in its third week, making way for Band Aid 20's take on "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Girls Aloud spent a fourth week in the top five. The single spent two further weeks in the top ten, holding on at number nine. Overall, "I'll Stand by You" spent nine weeks in the top forty. The single was ranked # 34 on the year-end chart. The song entered the Irish Singles Chart at number four. It spent a second week at number four, before rising to number three. It spent three more consecutive weeks at number three. It then slipped back down to number four, and spent two more weeks in the top five.
October 11, 201311 yr Author # 2. No Good Advice mNeO5a5tM4s Daddy told me look into the future Sit at your computer, be a good girl And Mama said remember your a lady, Think before your play and straighten your curls, I don't need no good advice I'm already wasted I don't need some other life Cold and complicated "No Good Advice" is a song by British all-female pop group Girls Aloud, taken from their debut album Sound of the Underground (2003). The song was written by Aqua's Lene Nystrøm Rasted, Miranda Cooper, Brian Higgins. Musically, the song was labelled "a disco track with guitar - a cross between Blondie and The Bangles." The song was written in the key of Bb minor. The song consists of a verse followed by a bridge and chorus. In place of a middle 8, there is a guitar solo instead. The song ends with a spoken outro. Brian Higgins said that Girls Aloud initially didn't like the song - "we played them some of it, and they said: 'That's not our sound.' I objected to the use of that phrase 'our sound'. I told them they had five minutes to talk about whether or not they wanted to continue with me. They went away and spoke about it and since then it's been fine. They come in expecting to work, and there's a trust there which, I think, dates back to that day." "No Good Advice" debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart, held off by R. Kelly's "Ignition". The song slipped to number five in its second week on the chart. The single lasted two more weeks in the top twenty at numbers eleven and seventeen respectively. Overall, "No Good Advice" was inside the top forty for six weeks and selling over 105,000 copies. "No Good Advice" suffered a similar fate on the Irish Singles Chart, peaking at number two behind Ireland's Eurovision finalist Mickey Joe Harte. It spent three consecutive weeks at number three, behind Harte and R. Kelly. The song fell to number seven in its fourth week on the Irish chart. It spent four further weeks in the top twenty.
October 12, 201311 yr Author # 1. Can't Speak French IuPL_Bgmvvs Described as a "swirling, slower cut with great jazzy guitar changes," "Can't Speak French" is a mid-tempo pop song with a number of influences. It juxtaposes jazz guitar and a swing beat against a 1980s-inspired synthesiser. The lyrics "find the girls at their glummest, desperately trying to impress a guy who turns their "dust to gold" but doesn't realize it." Producer Brian Higgins said it was "perhaps the easiest Girls Aloud single they made." The song begins with a first verse, a bridge, and a chorus. It then leads to a middle 8 sung by Cheryl Cole and an instrumental section before repeating the chorus. "Can't Speak French" debuted at number 49 on the UK Singles Chart on 24 February 2008, four weeks before the single's physical release. After the CD formats and digital bundles were released, the song peaked at number 9, becoming the band's eighteenth consecutive top ten single. Overall, the single spent ten weeks in the UK's top forty. Digital sales also helped the song debut on Irish Singles Chart at number thirty-five with peak position at number 12. The music video features Girls Aloud in elaborate costumes inspired by Marie Antoinette and 18th century French fashions. They crash a sophisticated dinner party and seduce the male guests. They dance provocatively and flirt with the men. Throughout the video, individual shots of each girl in front of a coloured wall are interpolated. Best Girls Aloud single and their best video. Edited February 10, 201411 yr by AlexRange
