Justice achieved for Beat Connection with a top 15 finish in YBO

Amidst the hype for Perseventyfive, Persephonia have achieved some justice for 41-contest-old entry 'In The Water' by Beat Connection which has finished 15th out of 44 in the latest spinoff 'Your Best of BJSC', hosted in the Federal Republic of Ashton. It received 163 points in total. All in all a very respectable performance for a song that came second last in its original semi-final. The song was the highest finisher out of the entries which didn't qualify in their original contests.

Aquafina, who developed the idea for the contest but ultimately did not host it, also achieved some justice as they won the contest with Nikki Williams' 'Glowing' on a score of 278 points. It marks their first ever victory in a BJSC event. Ramrynia are still yet to achieve a win in any contest, main or spinoff, but achieved another 2nd place this time with Krewella's 'Alive' 6 points behind 'Glowing'. iamamiwhoami failed to avenge her loss of the tiebreak to decide the winner of her original contest but 'play' achieved another good result for the nation then known as Elëdan but now called π, in 3rd place. D'yermak'er and Altyr Muunilinst completed the top 5 with Goldroom's 'Embrace' and Florrie's 'To The End' respectively.

Audialist representing Persephonia at home

After a month of much uncertainty about what song we would send, the Persephonian BJSC Committee has ultimately decided to go with the other song we were considering for the last contest. The host entry for BJSC LXXV (marketed as Perseventyfive), then, comes from Swedish producer Audialist.

'Burning' first surfaced back in late 2012 but has gone barely noticed since with fewer than 1,000 views on YouTube. The track is a trippy, bassy UK garage/dubstep-ish instrumental somewhat reminiscent of the work of electronic music legend Burial. Have a listen to the track below (sadly without a music video this time):

We don't expect big things from this entry but have decent hopes it will at least outperform the wooden spoon finish of our last host entry 'Glass Heart'. However it does, we hope that a few of the 70 (!) other countries to enter this contest - a record-breaking participation level for a fourth month in a row - will make a decent discovery out of it.

On a STATISTICAL note ~ this marks three entries in a row without a word of English from Persephonia - two foreign language entries preceding this instrumental. It's our fourth Swedish entrant (making Sweden the first country other than the UK and the USA to represent Persephonia four times) and our fifth instrumental entry in all, the first since BJSC LXVII winner 'Cry For Freedom'.

A lil' risky due to the anti-instrumentalists out there (looking at you Ryan) but I'm thrilled you decided to go for this one. A real contrast to last month yet still keeping up the quality, such a mysterious and quirky piece.

This pretty much falls into the same category as 'Glass Heart' of songs which I'd probably chicken out of entering if I wasn't guaranteed a place in the final  So not so risky this month lolz. Still risking a low finish in the final I guess ~

Very pleased that we are mutual fans of each other's entries for a second month in a row anyhoo  Danaelanda/Ethanola who?

Persekissnia aint coming for Danthanola's wev anytime soon tbh.

(seriously what it is with these new voting blocks trying to be more iconic than us? (see also Séyehino / Beaverfina)

cool entry here, hope it does better than last place in the final

I don't consider instrumentals "foreign language" though unless the major proportion of the song has vocals other than English. That's cheating :)

I didn't say it was a foreign language song ~

Top 15 finish at home for Audialist

Persephonia managed to avoid a repeat of our disastrous showing the last time we had an auto-qualifier - our second attempt at home success, Audialist's 'Burning', finished a strong 15th out of 41. It does mean the dream of consecutive top 10 hits is DASHED for a seventh time, but it's the third time we've managed back to back top 15 hits (after the 6-13 of Spark and Beth Ditto and 14-2 of Rustie and Kids Of The Apocalypse) and in a time where people are voting for 15 songs per contest instead of 10, we claim that as pretty much the same thing!!! :D

'Burning' received 209 points, our joint third highest score and our 9th best performance adjusted for ~points inflation~ (scoring 17.33% of the maximum possible score). No countries gave it a full 18 points but it did get 15 from N DNTN and 13 each from Botanikka and Terra Avium. Much love to those and to the 24 other countries who placed the song in their top 15. We had not been expecting much better than a repeat of the last place finish of 'Glass Heart' and it was great to see some very unexpected nations taking to the track, including the ever elusive FSR Rontvia.

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

The BIG STORY of Perseventyfive™ was of course the long, long awaited debut win for Kylienips. They were one of only three countries - alongside FSR Rontvia and the Federal Republic of Ashton - to have entered in all 75 editions of the contest but until now had never done better than third place. They had reportedly even been planning to leave us after a recent run of little success (failing to qualify in the last two contests) but it's a good thing they didn't as they powered to a historic win with Meg Myers' 'Sorry'. The song absolutely crushed the all-time points record we set last month, beating it by nearly 100 points with a final tally of 432. Of course this is still rather INFLATED due to the 18 point system but 'Sorry' is still certainly a more worthy holder of the title than 'Habib Galbi' ever was.

This contest had far more obvious big favourites than the last, and indeed A-WA have already fallen from the highest scorer of all time to the fifth highest scorer of all time. Second place went to another long-standing country who have never won before (and incidentally also DNQed in the last two contests), so fairly unfortunate timing for Espen who had to settle for second again (having previously come second with Frida Gold's 'Wovon Sollen Wir Träumen'). They received 366 points for Etienne De Crécy and Madeline Follin's 'You', 66 points short of the win.

Third and fourth place both beat A-WA's tally by one point, finishing on 345 - bronze on the tiebreak went to #00274E entry 'Paradigm' by CamelPhat feat. A*M*E, their second top 10 in a row, while Daehun continued their domination of 2015 with a 4th place finish for Karin Park's 'Stick To The Lie', their sixth top 10 and fourth top 5 in a row. Karin Park was of course stolen from Persephonia after we entered her in BJSC XLIV and only came 22nd. :') Also managing consecutive top 5s (but only two of them), Unovia came fifth with 'You Don't Own Me' by Grace feat. G-Eazy, on 342 points.

Kathaldazia's latest comeback got off to a poor start last month but the follow-up has done much better, Northbrook's 'On A Train' finished 6th to give them their third best finish ever. Hendinia have qualified for all of this year's contests but fallen short of the top 10 each time, they finally corrected that this time with a 7th place finish for Allie X's 'Tumor', their first top 10 in the last eight contests. Aeroche also returned to routine top 10 slayage coming 8th with Samantha Urbani's '1 2 3 4'. The top 8 all finished above 300 points compared to only the top 2 managing that last month, despite there being the same number of voters. Fresh face Jadakissnia came 9th with ONUKA's 'Time', their first top 10 on just their second entry. The top 10 was completed by Lo-Fi-Fnk's 'Nightclub Nirvana', which gave Sandebörg their first top 10 in the last 18 contests and only their third ever.

After the excitement of four brand new countries last month, there weren't any debuts for BJSC LXXV. Flynnonda sadly DNQed again to remain the only active country to have never made a final. The rematch of the battle of the LXXIV debutants was won again by Jadakissnia but all three that made the final last time improved on their positions this time - Cor Lupus were the second highest of the four, coming 13th with A-Trak's 'Push' (feat. Andrew Wyatt) while Aprogonia came 26th with Maliibu N Helene's 'Figure 8'. Triangledonia also set a new personal best of 14th with the Lost Kings remix of Halsey's 'Ghost'.

Avalonia returned to the contest after 36 contests away but fell short of the final with High Dive Heart's 'Vintage'. Only two of the contest's six returning nations qualified - Botanikka came 32nd with Noémi's 'In My Dreams' and Skall were 39th with Gallant's 'Talking In Your Sleep'. Tartford made the final again after 7 consecutive DNQs. Their last qualifier was Maria Hazell who came 22nd. They sent Hazell again this month, this time with 'Killing All My Darlings', and nearly replicated the exact position of her last entry, coming 23rd.

N-Lazone have pulled off the feat of sneaking through the semis then attracting very little interest in the final twice in a row - they were the recipients of a second consecutive wooden spoon, coming 41st with Sinead Harnett's 'She Ain't Me'. After last month it may have been assumed that finalists scoring less than 100 points were a thing of the past but that may not be the case after all as 'She Ain't Me' only JUST scraped 100.

We now present the results of the Persephonian televote (including both semi-finals this time due to our ~hosting privilege~):

Now it is the time to start the hype for Persephonia BJFest IV. *.* (this reminds me I should really fill in the spinoffs section of my first post)

I wonder if Land of DW will be a fan. ~cryptic~

Ziggy Marley inspires all in BJFestivalen IV

Following the boycott of the contest last year (don't believe what you read, we did not enter last year!), Persephonia have made a return to Buzzjackfestivalen for its fourth edition.

We are proud to announce that Ziggy Marley, son of the legendary Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley, and his band The Melody Makers are providing our entry for the spinoff, with their song 'Believe In Yourself' which is best known for its interpolation into the results of Perseventyfive™ being the theme song to the children's television series Arthur.

We hope you are all inspired by its uplifting message ~

this is actually not bad ;o was expecting it to be shit as it was a kid's tv show theme but when you forget that it kinda works as a song itself.

and ACTUAL Bob Marley's son singing it too *.

Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers go direkt til Morpeth!

Our best performance in Buzzjackfestivalen ever is already in the bag as our entry to its fourth edition, 'Believe In Yourself' by Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers, finished in the top two of its heat and has passed directly to the final.

This follows our entry to BJFest II, James Blake's 'Unluck', progressing to the Andra Chansen round where it finished a distant last, and our boycott of BJFest III entirely (though an impostor entry organised by a team of Far Island-based BJSC enthusiasts, 'Lindisfarne II' also by James Blake, scandalously came last in its heat).

Pleasingly the other direct qualifier from Heat 3 was Flynnonda's entry 'Aaliyah' by Melé which was heavily supported by Persephonian televoters but came as somewhat of a shock success nonetheless. The entries by Bignia-Zaragovina, Mulgracia and - another surprise - Land of DW made it through to the Andra Chansen round so could still join us, Flynnonda and the six other countries that made it straight though in the grand final in Morpeth Cove, Federal Republic of Ashton.

Silver medal for Ziggy & co in BJFest!

Just minutes ago the final results of Buzzjackfestivalen IV concluded in Morpeth Cove, Federal Republic of Ashton and it was revealed Persephonian entry 'Believe In Yourself' by Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers finished in second place with 124 points. The Persephonian BJSC Committee are over the moon with this result especially after rather lacklustre performances in earlier editions of the spinoff.

The song had been winning at various points during the reveal including at the second last vote but a final push sealed victory for Mulgracia's entry, 'Going Home' by Cosmic Gate and Emma Hewitt, with 128 points. This was despite the song only making the final via the Andra Chansen round, though it did have strong competition in its original heat as the two autoqualifiers, Persephonia and the Flynnonda entry 'Aaliyah' by Melé, made up the rest of the final top 3 with 'Aaliyah' coming 3rd with 114 points.

The PBJSCC hopes the ride this wave of success back into the main contest with a massive jam lined up for BJSC LXXVI in Kylienips ~

Until then feel free to peruse Persephonia's televote results in the final, Andra Chansen and Heat 3 of BJFest IV:
