Are the rules not different this year for Christmas songs.

The new rules will make it harder for the songs to chart in the higher regions of the chart.

Yeah it probably won't do as well this year because of the new chart rules, I don't think it is eligible to come off ACR anymore, which sucks.

Does anyone know how much has “Christmas, with love” sold in UK and US? :P

As it is over 3 years old, it indeed will stay on ACR. Hoping it can still go top 40, even with this restriction. Was doing alright on downloads the last couple years compared to a lot of the big streaming Xmas songs, so shouldn’t be affected as dramatically as those reliant on streaming playlists for sales

121k in UK, certified Gold.

Should we set a Buzzjack date for the Leona fans to put on her Cmas album?? I'd say Dec 1st, but by then we may have already heard other Xmas songs and some might have given into the temptarion to listen already
The album should possibly pick up 10k more sales this year if One More Sleep takes off again in the charts this year.
The new rules will sadly stop this going top 20 again but provided it does well on iTunes as well as Spotify it should still go top 40.

If it manages a Top 40 position and with new rules enforced it would be a wonderful outcome.

It, all round, will be interesting to see how the Christmas singles perform and will any make it to the Top 10.

The OCC ruins the charts. A Christmas chart should be full of Xmas songs. It is a tradition.

I wouldn't call it a tradition, it's actually a relatively recent occurrence for the Top 40 chart to be flooded with Christmas songs!

Here's the number of Christmas songs appearing in the Christmas Week Top 40 chart, each year since 2007 (which is the year when OCC changed the rules to allow any song to chart i.e. Christmas classics were eligible to appear):

2007 - 10

2008 - 7

2009 - 4

2010 - 4

2011 - 10 (this chart fell on 25th December)

2012 - 5 (or 6 if Gabrielle Aplin's The Power of Love is considered as being a Christmas song)

2013 - 6

2014 - 5

2015 - 7

2016 - 10 (the week after Christmas week included 13 Christmas songs)

2017 - 16 (the week after Christmas week included 23 Christmas songs)

2017 was pretty extreme, so I can see why OCC came up with a new rule for old songs. I'm sure quite a few Christmas songs will still manage to find their way in anyway, but just not such a huge number of them. I guess it will return it to the levels of being 10 songs or less.

With those rules OMS could still reach the top 40 the week after Christmas chart
They have big plans with OMS this year so it should definitely get a boost

The year where the old Christmas songs will be on ACR lol...btw I read somewhere that the label can ask to get back to SRC in some cases..can that still happening??

Who do?

I thought Christmas songs can regain SCR status if they increase by 50% sales week-on-week? That's definitely possible for most Xmas tracks. Or has that rule been scrapped?
^ Anything older than three years old is permanently on ACR now, as of the rule change back in July!

Oh right thanks. That's really shitty. I guess the one positive is Christmas songs will only grow in popularity on streaming services each December so ACR might not matter too much.

Which is exactly why they did it, so we don’t get Mariah at #1 each year.

If a song is ‘actively promoted by the label’ it can be reset but can’t see that happening with Syco who have the rights for the Xmas tracks I believe

Well... :kink:

Maybe that's why they're planning something big this year, to get around these new rules?
