That Union J song actually sounds really good for a "generic boyband" song. It reminds me of D-Side's Invisible from 10 years earlier.

Will it count on the UK charts, as Katy Perry's 2nd promo track didn't count towards the chart?

Gaga only has one on her album available atm - 'Applause'. It will be more likely that 'Dope' (and if they don't release 'Venus' separately) won't count. I'll be surprised if they don't release 'Venus' separately since that is her second single!

Oh that reminds me that 'Do What U Want' won't be charting officially :(

From iTunes - Four tracks will be available to those who pre-order the album in the weeks before the release of ARTPOP, including the smash single "Applause". Check back every week for a new single. The available tracks will begin downloading immediately after you pre-order the album. You'll be charged for the tracks, and the remainder of the album's cost will be charged separately when it becomes available. An email will remind you to download your complete copy of ARTPOP.

So this means that none of the promo singles will be charting because you get them instantly when you pre-order the album, with the Katy Perry situation 'Roar' was not a 'downloads-instantly-when-you-pre-order' track, so 'Dark Horse' was chart eligible, and 'Walking On Air', being the 2nd promo single, was not.

I think we should expect 'Venus' to not be chart eligible too until the album release, unless the rules change, or if they release it separately.

Well if 'Do What U Want' is looking likely to be a top 10 hit which might be disqualified then hopefully that'll make the OCC change their rules again.
It's a stupid rule! If people are buying the track, what's the problem?
Is LivePopBars seriously down again? What is the constant problem with that website :drama:

Because they didn't actually purchase them did they? They pre-ordered the album and got the track for free (I think, don't shoot me if I'm wrong)

They still get charged for it, so I think it should count. What are the rules on Complete My Album?

Oh really?

That's one big fat mess then

They pre-order the album, get charged for the track and then get charged for the album when that's released, I think. Plus what about those sales of people who buy the track without pre-ordering? It's messed up!

There is another site similar to it, but I don't have it bookmarked.

Can't you remember the site?? Or anyone else? Thanks.

They changed the rules midweek after people moaned about Bowie not charting. They tried to play it off as a mistake that it wasn't in the mids IIRC but in reality that was correct according to the rules at the time. 'Walking On Air' seems to be the first (or at least the first significant) example of a 2nd pre-order single from the same album so hopefully this rule will be quashed before it really has the chance to make a mockery of the chart like the old rule was doing before Bowie.

This is of course assuming that that is the reason 'Walking On Air' was disqualified, we still don't know that for CERTAIN but it seems like by far the most plausible explanation.

They should count promo singles that people get from pre-ordering albums, as they get charged for it still. But when the album is available, those sales get taken away, like the Complete My Album feature.
So in that way, if the songs were trickled one per week, everyone of them could get in to the chart despite not one of them being bought as a single song purchase?

They are being bought as a single song purchase by some people. You don't HAVE to get pre-order album tracks by pre-ordering the album.

Then those purchases should definitely be counted. I don't like this whole idea of buying the album and getting the "single" free in advance being a genuine purchase of the single
