Sorry it was such a shock when Jameela said it - theres 15 copies between the top 2 singles!!

Could 'Artpop' really "do a 'Bionic'." Chart run wise? How bizarre for her though :/ I'm not the biggest fan of the album but it does deserve better!

I wouldn't think so. I can't remember where Bionic was on the update chart for its second week but I'm sure if was well outside the Top 10/

Closest in recent history was "Foundations" missing out by 16 copies against TimbaBLAND. :( ~still hurts~ :(

This is just a midweek update anyway, there have probably been midweeks where the top 2 were even closer than the Steve Miller Band/Deee-Lite kerfuffle. There's going to be a gap of a good few thousand by the end of the week between Lily and whoever's #2 (Bastille and Gary sold practically the same amount yesterday so it's still looking impossible to call it between the two but I'm inclined to think Bastille will ultimately hold up better through the week).

Gonna be another exciting chart this Sunday then! Could Lily still do it?

Well James Arthurs album sold 23,000 last week and was #9 so Lady Gaga could sell 25,000 this week.

Would be concerned that JLS single is #14 if their album wasn't #4. Bizarre bringing both out on same week.

 

Hopefully Little Mix will add in some solid sales at #7 to make up for being 15k short on DNA last week.

Eminem's set The Marshall Mathers LP 2 drops 2-3 in the week to date, but is holding up a lot better than his Interscope/Polydor colleague Lady Gaga's Artpop. After debuting at No 1 last Sunday, it now drops to 9 with sales sinking by 84% on the week.

Yeah, I've always wondered whether the 84% means at this point in the week, or is that an extrapolated value? i.e. is she on course for 10.5k this week, or has she sold 10.5k up until this point in the week?

I guess the only way to know the answer is to find another instance where a midweek report commented similarly and look to see what the mentioned artist's sales figures were during the two relevant sales weeks?

 

Having said that I wouldn't expect a No 9 to sell around 20k+ in one week and only 10.5k the following week.
