I don't think it's going to get close to the top 10, being honest.

If she performs at the X Factor final (as rumoured), it might scrape a week or two in the top 10. I agree though, it's clearly not going to be a big hit. Terrible single choice.

On the other side, it does atleast show up the myth that anything she does is guaranteed to be a hit, and thus shows that all of her previous singles were hits because they were great songs rather than just trading off her name alone. 'Unconditionally' is even underperforming in the US, despite her incredible track record there (12 of her 13 previous singles have all gone to #1 on either the Hot 100 or Pop Radio).

Any particular reason why Gaga is rising with 'Do What U Want' or is it just increasing airplay?
Unconditionally is nice album filler but for somebody with such a strong back catalogue of singles it's possibly her weakest release to date for me. Wouldn't mind if it doesn't climb any higher but no doubt X Factor will boost it massively.

It's really surprising because her team are usually great at picking singles, the only clanger they made in the last era was 'Part Of Me'. I just can't imagine why they thought 'Unconditionally' with its cheesy lyrics and bland melody (I think her melodies are her secret weapon usually) would make a good choice.

It's one of those songs that sounds like a hit on first listen but on closer inspection are a bit "eh?". It was kinda clear it wouldn't do well from the minute it did poorly on cherrypicks, but the video effect being so modest on both sides of the Atlantic was when it was a cert.

Agreed, although even Part Of Me was a UK #1  Unconditionally is quite nice in parts but I do find the singing of the word unconditionally over the melody a bit awkward, too many syllables to work so stretched out.

That's exactly what irritates me! It's not a very suitable word to be part of the hook.

YES! That is my biggest problem with 'Unconditionally' - the fact that she pronounces it with the emphasis on the wrong syllables. I don't mind the song other than that, but I agree that there are better single choices on the album.

How high can Rihanna go without promo with WHAT NOW?

Right Now she is at #54 & #128.

FINALLY someone other than me has pointed out the terrible pronunciation of the word 'unconditionally'. I got blank responses when I mentioned that to ~certain people~. Really ruins the song for me, it's otherwise an okay song if not her best. It really is an awful single choice though.
I read somewhere that it sounds like she's screaming Uncle DeSean Ali and now I can't unhear it and the song's ruined for me (not that it ever had much potential).

Half of 'Prism' is filled with subtle ballads, and 'Unconditionally' stands above them all quite clearly as being the strongest. It's my favourite from her since 'Teenage Dream' (song) and it'd be criminal if it underperformed.

Airplay is only just picking up though and all it will take is a bit of tv promo which Katy is always quick to deliver and it should be as big as it deserves to be.

Yeah, I thought Part Of Me was a very uneventful song as well, although thinking about it, it's better that it was the first single from the re-release, since the first single probably would've gone #1 regardless at that stage, and if Part of me had been 2nd (and post-album) it might have charted something more like #4 in the US and #15 in the UK. I don't think it's the worst song in the world, but there's just not anything memorable about it, apart from the fact that it referenced her recent divorce I suppose.

By the looks of things, her team aren't going to have to even choose her next single, since I was looking at the charts today and Dark Horse is already top 50 on both the pop and rhythmic charts.

I don't know what some of you are on, 'Unconditionally' is a great single! I'm fairly confident it'll be pretty massive in the longrun too.

As for the album itself it isn't exactly bursting with single choices...

I only listened to it once so far, but I thought it was a nice song. I can understand why they chose it, since they need something slow to contrast with Roar, and adult contemporary songs always seem to do well around Christmas.

The only other songs they have left to make singles are Walking On Air, Dark Horse, This Is How We Do and possibly Birthday. All nice enough but arent gonna win her any new fans at the same time.

'Dark Horse' is probably her 2nd best song ever behind 'E.T.', needs to be a single and needs to be massive. It's already shown some clear potential (more so than 'Unconditionally' at least).
I'm surprised that 'Unconditionally' isn't taking off in the way everyone expected it to, it sounds like a big hit especially for this time of year. Hopefully 'Dark Horse' gets released soon and does better

YES, Dark Horse absolutely needs to be the next single, SO good!
