December 1, 201312 yr I'm a big Hurts fan so pleased to see them get a #1.. though it is bittersweet as it isn't really a Hurts track at all. Still, I hope this will help give their next album a boost and Radio 1 more likely to support it.
December 1, 201312 yr Some other songs outside top 40... 47 Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You 48 One Direction - Strong 49 One Direction - Midnight Memories 53 The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York 58 One Direction - Diana 59 Mary J Blige & Jessie J - Do You Hear What I Hear? 66 Kanye West - Bound 2 Mariah leading the pack of Christmas songs! Shame Mary J & Jessie didn't end up a bit higher though!
December 1, 201312 yr Do the Christmas songs usually make the Top 40 at this time of year? YES for Bound 2 *.* Edited December 1, 201312 yr by ★ G R I F F ★
December 1, 201312 yr The most tragic #1 since I Could Be the One. Hopefully such a tragedy won't ruin your whole life
December 1, 201312 yr The aftermath of 200 versions brings this to #6. :DThe thing is the Guy have hardly promoted it at all. The whole Mcbusted Tour has taken over. Their last single 'Love Is Easy' last November was only out on 1 single download on release week with no CD or Digital EP and still managed Number 10
December 1, 201312 yr 6 not bad for mcfly given they have been together 10 years and their original fans are all grown upTheir Original fans are still with them...Your be pushed to find many Kids in a Mcfly concert now. In fact thanks to Strictly Ect they have more older fans.
December 1, 201312 yr Updated the album chart posts with the new peaks for 1D, Gary and Robbie tracks + 3 more 1D songs and a Mary J. Blige one entering between 41 and 100!
December 1, 201312 yr Do the Christmas songs usually make the Top 40 at this time of year? According to the chart archive, this time last year The Pogues and Mariah climbed into the top 40, so we're about a week behind compared to last year if they get there next week. :P
December 1, 201312 yr So what exactly is the controversy about those 1D tracks in this weeks chart? I have read the whole of this thread, the whole iTunes weekly thread and the sales thread and I still don't understand it. I gather there was an error on iTunes which resulted in the tracks being 'treated as instant grats', but shouldn't that mean that sales were mistakenly EXcluded rather than INcluded? And as one poster pointed out instant grats become eligible for the chart when the album is out anyway, and the album in question was out this week wasn't it? And finally has there been any actual confirmation that any error did happen or with the greatest respect is this just the opinion of regular iTunes chart followers trying to explain some unexpectedly high sales that could in fact have just been that high?

And finally has there been any actual confirmation that any error did happen or with the greatest respect is this just the opinion of regular iTunes chart followers trying to explain some unexpectedly high sales that could in fact have just been that high? To put it simply, the sales of both songs include all of the iTunes pre-orders for their album, which accounts for probably well over 75% of their totals. They definitely didn't 'just have very high sales', they both debuted inside the top 10 on iTunes next to each other immediately after the album release and they both immediately started rapidly decreasing. No ordinary release would do that, that's what instant grats do ('Do What U Want', 'Venus', 'Dope' and all three of 1D's last week did similarly although they had a few positive updates to start with because they were getting legitimate sales straight away as well, whereas these 2 album tracks didn't (well they probably got SOME but not very many)). There hasn't been 'official confirmation' per se but the evidence from watching Kworb is more than enough to conclude there was an error.
December 1, 201312 yr Ah so they were never genuine track purchases in the first place then, just constituent parts of an album purchase. So were they among the remaining tracks that completed the album (delayed grats?) rather than instant grats?
December 1, 201312 yr Ah so they were never genuine track purchases in the first place then, just constituent parts of an album purchase. So were they among the remaining tracks that completed the album (delayed grats?) rather than instant grats? They were basically treated as instant grats when they shouldn't have been (they are just standard album tracks). I would guess that as tracks 1-4 and 7 had been made available already, either as singles or instant grats, iTunes accidentally released tracks 5 and 6 before releasing the rest of the album which resulted in those 2 songs having a load of sales added to them. There was obviously nothing wrong with any sales they received after that because they are just standard cherry-picks, but the majority of their sales are mistakenly attributed album pre-orders.
December 1, 201312 yr Finally Hurts getting a huge hit (Wonderful Life was so painfully overlooked!) 'Stay' by Hurts should have been massive. Love that band. Agree to both of those statements. If Stay had been sung by a different band it would have been top 10 easily. It's just because they weren't known and didn't get the radio support. I'm also surprised that none of their singles from the Exile album did very well. Blind is a cracking tune, as is Someone to die for. Hopefully now, their name will be more well known and they'll get a hit of their own.
December 1, 201312 yr If it had been sung by a different band there's a chance it would have been done by a decent singer.
December 1, 201312 yr Updated the album chart posts with the new peaks for 1D, Gary and Robbie tracks + 3 more 1D songs and a Mary J. Blige one entering between 41 and 100! Should's 'One Step Too Far' by Faithless featuring Dido be listed? It's on her album.
December 1, 201312 yr Should's 'One Step Too Far' by Faithless featuring Dido be listed? It's on her album. It should indeed - thanks for pointing that out! Fixeded.
December 2, 201312 yr Avicii don't get the credit he deserves for getting country music onto the Radio 1 playlist through the back door. The lead singer on this track is 46, yet Robbie Williams is too old for them... Think the singer on the Afrojack song is a country music star lol!!
