Good memories of this coming out back in sixth form and me and my Lana obsessed friend listening to it in one of our free periods for the first time :kink: #productive - this was definitely a step down from 'Born To Die' and a bit samey but there are some definite highlights to be found! Those being the title track, 'Shades Of Cool', 'Brooklyn Baby', 'West Coast' and 'Money Power Glory'! It's a good album to relax to tbh.
I remember being totally shook and tbh a little disappointed it sounded so different from BTD but I still loved almost every song. Like others I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it because it feels so heavy and meloncholy. Brooklyn Baby is hands down one of the greatest things she's ever done, I cried when I heard that little snippet she put out as part of the album trailer.
I like this more now than I did at the time... the highs are Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast and Old Money - the latter is probably my favourite.

Omfg I take it back - just listened to this. It's actually good!! It's just Ultraviolenxe the song is droning and boring as a single. On the album it works! Never listened to the album all the way through before. It's great! The first track and Run To You should have been singles. Brooklyn Baby is on the album too omg as is West Coast!!

1. Cruel World

2. Run To You

3. West Coast

4. Brooklyn Baby

5. West Coast

Then release Ultraviolence as a droning single at the end. I got the compkete wrong impression of the album and refused to listen to it for years cos of that single!! Lana queen of left field choices that send her fans running to the hills instead of the shops. What was she thinkin?? :nocheer:

Which album is the one with the droning, terrible High By The Beach then?!

That album is 'Honeymoon'! (my least favourite Lana album oops)

01. Born To Die

02. Lust For Life

03. Ultraviolence

04. Honeymoon

for me!

I think that's probably my order also Jade, Honeymoon is definitely a distant last place.
I haven't even listened to Lust For Life because of Ultraviolence the single and Honeymoon's singles :o
Well get to it! It's quite good, not everything is great but there's a good batch of tracks on it, especially Love, 13 Beaches, Get Free and Cherry.

Omg that’s also my order too.

Its sort of close between 2-3 but Honeymoon is way way way down there in fourth

I listened to it as a whole twice at the time it come out and didn’t go back to it as a whole until a few weeks ago when again it was just a slog to get through. A real low point for me musically apart from certain tracks but even the highs don’t compare to the highs on her other albums. Yeah idk what it was but I didn’t get into that era much at all.

I’d listen to it for sure. It’s much more mainstream and more alike her debut than those two.

It’s far better and more varied than Honeymoon and perhaps lighter than Ultraviolence too.

Idk it depends what kind of Lana you like. If BTD is your fave from her you’d probably enjoy Lust For Life.

I heard her albums for the first time the other day. I dunno why, but I just had an urge to delve into her catalogue, give her a chance, coz it's not her voice I disliked. I enjoyed majority of what I heard more than I thought I would.

This album though was my least favourite, which surprised me as I'd seen most people say it was her very best. I just found it very, very boring and didn't have much for me to go back to. I liked 'Born To Die' (+ Paradise) & Lust For Life the best. Honeymoon, I found it to be a nice listen and one I'd probably put on in the background of a relaxing night or whatever. But yeah, I couldn't get into this on first listen. Whether I try again in the future, I dunno, I guess we'll see.

I had it in my basket yesterday and then it sold out when I went to checkout. Then had it in my basket at the French store before realising they don't ship to the UK. ffs :(
I didn't get one either... I had it in my basket but then the sensible side of me that knows I don't have the space took over... before it sold out and now the not so sensible side of me is kicking myself
I'm pretty sure this cover variant was a thing back when the album first came out, can't believe she's brought it back :o resellers weeping that it's a bit less rare now :kink:

Yeah it was... I'm all for acts bringing back desirable things in small runs so that people who want one can actually get one. If something sells out so quickly then do another small run etc until you've hit demand levels. It's the best way to eliminate those who just buy it for resale to a genuine fan.

(admittedly capacity at pressing plants may not allow for this but it's what I'd like to see in an ideal world)

but do more than 1000

1000 worldwide is too little

like today there was a special pressing of Sufjan - Michigan, only 500, of course it sold out in 1 nanosecond :/
