Posted December 11, 201311 yr http://i.imgur.com/Nu4kotp.jpg Inspired by an agonising talk with certain members here, what big CLASSIC films that are raved by millions have you shamefully not yet seen? For me it has to be all the lauded musical numbers which i've never got into. I don't think i've ever seen 'Grease' from start to end or the big romances like 'Ghost'. Let it all out and then start watching!!
December 11, 201311 yr well from the conversation that inspired this thread, I have yet to see: Any Star Wars Any Lord of The Rings The Godfather Pulp Fiction Schindler's List Vertigo Fight Club Forest Gump The Matrix Silence of the Lambs Casablanca The Usual Suspects Saving Private Ryan Appocalypse Now Spirited Away Among others. *runs and hides*
December 11, 201311 yr PLENTY. Like everything. A few highlights, many of these things that would probably seem like my THING too: 2001: A Space Odyssey Alien Forrest Gump (only partially, never seen it in full :() The Godfather Silence Of The Lambs Pulp Fiction The Shining Citizen Kane A Clockwork Orange Blade Runner Amongst many many others. Seriously, I'm so bad with classic films, I always keep seeing them turn up in all-time lists and influential works but I never get round to any of these. Probably seen countless parodies of them all as well.
December 11, 201311 yr Author From what i know of you Iz, there are plenty there that you will probably LOVE as you mention. The Kubrick aside which should be first on your list, 'Blade Runner' and 'Alien' you'd eat up and enjoy for sure! well from the conversation that inspired this thread, I have yet to see: Any Star Wars Any Lord of The Rings The Godfather Pulp Fiction Schindler's List Vertigo Fight Club Forest Gump The Matrix Silence of the Lambs Casablanca The Usual Suspects Saving Private Ryan Appocalypse Now Spirited Away Among others. *runs and hides* UGH. And 'Pulp Fiction' is essential viewing for ALL 90s kids!

Where should I start? Edited December 11, 201311 yr by Harve
December 11, 201311 yr TOO MANY Copy and pasted from LexC's and Eyes' lists, these are films I'd consider 'big' but haven't watched: Any Star Wars The Godfather Fight Club Pulp Fiction Forest Gump Casablanca Spirited Away Alien Citizen Kane A Clockwork Orange Also: Avatar Jurassic Park Psycho Memento Any of the recent Batman trilogy Inception Se7en I'm terrible I know. Where should I start? You should literally "start from the bottom" *.* All of those (bar 'Avatar' which is decent enough I guess) are incredible and I think I'd actually rank them in that order (from 'Se7en' upwards!) I've not seen 'The Godfather', 'A Clockwork Orange' (it's on my "list" though) and 'Forrest Gump'. I only saw 'Fight Club' for the first time this year (in June or something) and it's incredible. I need to see David Fincher's reworking of 'The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo' as well as his other films 'The Social Network' and 'Zodiac'. (I also only recently saw (as of like 2 weeks ago) the brilliant 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'!) I think at this rate with 'Se7en', 'Fight Club' and 'Curious Case...' David Fincher might possibly be my favourite director with Christopher Nolan very close.
December 11, 201311 yr I never saw Fight Club the movie but read the book and found it so incredible. Didn't really want to spoil the effect of the book I guess. Don't remember a single thing about what happens there though ooops  And I haven't seen a LOT of classics as well. The ones I'm really ASHAMED of having not watched are Star Wars. I mean I partially saw a couple of them but never in one sitting. :(
December 11, 201311 yr I have seen none of the Star Wars movies LOTR trilogy Casablanca Gone With The Wind Star Trek movies Superman movies Spiderman movies Inception Its a Wonderful Life
December 11, 201311 yr It makes me WEEP (inside) how many of you haven't seen ANY Star Wars films. Using other lists as a springboard: Any of the Godfather films Fight Club Any Hitchcock film bar Psycho Any Woody Allen film bar Vicky Christina Barcelona (that I know of, and that was so monumentally abysmal I don't WANT TO) Having now used Wiki as a guide I seem to have seen Bullets Over Broadway too, which is actually very good. most of the 'big' ones I haven't seen are classics like Spartacus, Bridge On The River Kwai and shit like that. Technically 'big' and well beloved etc. but just not my THING at all.
December 11, 201311 yr TITANIC Any movie linked in with the Avengers Any James Bond movie Jurassic Park The Lion King E.T. Any Fast & Furious movie Any Die Hard movie I just looked up a list of highest-grossing films to come up with this list rather than racking my brain for classics. I've not seen 95% of what's been posted already (the exceptions being Avatar and Inception (neither of which I particularly loved))
December 11, 201311 yr Author OK I think we have a winner (or loser rather) with Jack. LION KING really?? Sending you the DVD for Christmas because that is just wrong  Oh James Bond was another franchise I hadn't touched until very recently and have still only seen a few so I can add that one. And for Harve and John, THIS is a fine starting place.
December 11, 201311 yr It makes me WEEP (inside) how many of you haven't seen ANY Star Wars films Just not my genre, no desire to see any of them, am not a sci fi fan at all, exceptions being The Matrix, Terminator 1+2 and Robocop I rarely watch films at all that are not action/police/mafia/gangster etc
December 11, 201311 yr Which is fair enough of course, but it still makes me WEEP (inside) as I am a HUGE fan of Star Wars and most sci-fi films so I always think 'those poor people' when I hear people talking about not LOVING IT as a genre. re. That suggestion Haus, I have been meaning to watch more Hitchcock, but to be honest I get the feeling I'm probably not going to enjoy them a whole heck of a lot. I don't have a very high brow taste in film, direction/directing ability and stuff don't matter to me as much as whether the film entertains me. That is my main goal: to be entertained. I use TV as a means of more profound stuff and am much more picky regarding it, the short form medium works much better for me. My top 10 films of all time for example is repelete with technically not very good films, but they all make me feel JOY when I watch them (for varying reasons). That's a shade OT, but it feels appropriate.
December 11, 201311 yr I don't honestly understand the mindset of someone who hasn't seen the Lord Of The Rings films (basically same as John for Star Wars, and I agree with him there too). The Hobbit is still a huge talking point and that's a trilogy that is coasting off the momentum of LOTR 10 years on. Although I watch the whole trilogy like every 18 months or so so they are still a big part of my world. Oh James Bond was another franchise I hadn't touched until very recently amd have still only seen a few so I can add that one. Same! Only have 5 of them that I know I've watched: Goldeneye, Skyfall, Casino Royale, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker (in that order of quality). Only really began wanting to see more since Skyfall (and yet it's been over a year and I haven't added any) .
December 11, 201311 yr Poor Spy and Moonraker, those and Tomorrow Never Dies are my bond top 3 (Skyfall would be fourth).

I used to have a life sied cardboard cutout of Eowyn in my room  There are so many "big" movies I have never seen that it would take ages to list. But, some of them include: The Hangover movies Avatar Pretty much every James Bond movie. All Harry Potter movies after the 4th one The Hunger Games Inception The most recent Batman The last two really need to change though, JGL is in them
December 11, 201311 yr Never have and never will even attempt to watch Lord Of The Rings... Really couldn't be further from my 'thing'.
December 11, 201311 yr Lion King Avatar Any Lord Of The Rings Any of James Bond Hunger Games Toy Story Fast And Furious Die Hard Slumdog Millionaire The Matrix
December 11, 201311 yr I actually have never seen James Bond either, any of them! And again, totally not my thing. I'm not a huge film person in general but there are many things I'd rather do over watching something like James Bond or Lord Of The Rings.
