Drunk In Love is on Urban/Rhythmic right now and is getting more airplay also.

Yeah, it's currently #45 on the rhythmic chart and #28 on the urban chart, but if you consider anything that charts on other formats as a single then pretty much every song from Beyonce's past 2 albums has been a single lol.

Drake has All Me, Rihanna has Loveeeeeee Song and Jay-Z has f***withmeyouknowIgot it charting on those formats as well, but they aren't singles either.

I think she confirmed it herself tho?

That's what I thought  XO to Pop, DIL to Urban/Rhythmic.

Yes, and that means XO will be the single, and Drunk in Love won't be. No mainstream artist would ever have a single and not send it to pop radio.

It's like if Lady Gaga had a song but decided to only send it to HAC, it would make no sense. A single by a mainstream artist like Beyonce will always be sent to pop radio.

No, they're both being termed as singles in the States.

Artists like Rihanna and Beyonce release multiple singles at the same time in the US to cover all areas of the market. The bigger single usually ends up being the one sent to pop, but the Urban singles are important to.

Beyonce often "releases"* different singles to urban radio in the States. For example, 'Diva' and 'Ego' were both urban-only singles, but were never "released" to Pop.

* when it comes to US radio, "release" pretty much just means the record label telling them that's what they should play; obviously the stations are under no obligation to play them or to not play songs that haven't been officially "released" to them

 02. Pharrell "Happy" (AO version down to #31)

 08. Eminem "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)"

 09. AC/DC "Highway To Hell"

Still secretly hoping AC/DC can get #5 this week, it's done a lot better than expected. Reckon Lily Allen will push it down to #6 though.

 39. Busta Rhymes "Thank You (feat. Q-Tip, Kanye West & Lil Wayne)"

R1's track of the day today. Nice to see it climbing again, hopefully a contender for a T40 placing once the Christmas songs start dropping next week.

Top version of happy now up to 71.50%, send version on 10.57 has an xfactor winner ever been kncoked on itunes number 1 during the 1st week fo release

Diva and Ego weren't singles. That's why Radio 1, etc. never playlisted them. I'm 99% sure XO is the single, and I think it'll be the song that will be given to Radio 1 and Capital FM to play.

Key words were 'in the States'.

Actually diva and ego were BOTH Singles and so they had charted, had music videos and were performed on American tv shows even if they wernt the biggest shows out there. They were urban singles, not official singles if that's what you mean.

EDIT - Diva was officially the third single from I Am... Shasha Fierce

There's lots of songs that get released in just one country. For example Hummingbird Heartbeat by Katy Perry in Australia, and Monster by Lady Gaga in New Zealand. But I think these songs are irrelevent in the grand scheme of things. I never heard anybody listing them as singles.

As far as 99% of the world's population is concerned, XO is Beyonce's first single.

Diva was a pretty appalling choice :( especially choosing it before halo :o

I don't get what you're arguing here? The last sentence is probably right, but that doesn't change that 'Drunk in Love' is a single at US urban radio, just as she's had previous urban-only singles. That's all I was saying.

Why would 'Halo' be an urban single? 'Diva' did extremely well anyway.

Umm no that's not what I said :P diva was the third official single followed by halo which was the fourth, it's a bit shocking to see a song so catchy have a predecessor so... Eh

It was released only to urban radio in the US. It was an official urban single. Whether it came before 'Halo' or not is largely irrelevant - they catered to different formats.

I believe "Halo" went top 10 on Urban though.
