I wouldn't go quite that far as I loved 'Collide' and some of the songs off Glassheart but it is without doubt the best from this era that I've heard. I've had it on repeat ever since Enviorment posted it.

I have really enjoyed the tracks revealed over the last few days but the only real stand out for me is I Got You. Sounds like a big hit and has the been the most instant song for me. There hasn't been a track from this album which I have disliked yet, but everything else besides Thunder has only really clicked after a few listens for me. Would love to see Leona perform I Got You on one of her US promo slots. Think it would go down a storm over there with whole gospel sound. They need to tweak the name though so people don't get it confused with Echo's I Got You. Just put something in a bracket like I Got You (When the rain won't stop). I would hope they can think of something much better than that but it is the only other lyric that has stuck in my head. :lol:

Also, a guy who went to her LA listening party said that the production of "Ladders" is much better in HQ than the radio play so hopefully you'll all enjoy it even more once the album comes out!

 

The album is starting to rise quite a bit on pre-orders now. #177 on Amazon UK & #306 (deluxe)/#1194 (standard) on iTunes. "Power" is going to be an instagrat tonight at 12am, so that should get the album rising more on iTunes and amazon too I hope.

I can't believe how much better some of the songs sound in HQ as well. "I Got You"/"Ladders"/"Essence Of Me" sound much better!
The Essence of Me is a massive grower. I really like it now compared to first listen. You Know Me When sounds pretty good too!

Awh, the album really does sound great overall, if a little safe compared to her others but I like the variation in tempos, and there are a good 3 or 4 songs that I can see myself LOVING. Looking forward to release now. Here's hoping she has at least one other TV performance on release week.

 

I genuinely believe the three singles so far are some of the weakest songs on the album though, that still baffles me.

"Power" has been released as an instagrat tonight. Hope it'll do well and help the album rise some more!
I reckon she'll have more UK promo than just the Lotto show, surely she'll pop into a breakfast/morning show to perform too?

Hopefully, or even something like Loose Women. She's got some promotion next week before the album which'll help I hope (BBC Breafast Monday), plus she has the BBC Radio 2 weekend gig September 13th which'll hopefully help the album out. Fingers crossed!

 

 

Album Impressions/Song critique...

 

I'll first start with my impression of Ladders. I don't like the production very much, especially the electronic sound in the middle. Once, it sounded nice, but then it repeats thrice or four times in too dominant of a fashion. The vocal production in this song is AMAZING, so solid, I wish the production would be tweaked. Just want to highlight again my issues with POWER. I love its production - really primeval and fresh, but the prechorus - I feel - should have carried on with the same structure and instrumentation of the verse; just with slight modification of melody before the cue to the chorus. Two more lines, then chorus cue, then the CHORUS. Same for the bridge. The last two 'lines' need actual lines and not just the ad-libbing. I had very high hopes for this song and believe its just a tweak away from perfection.

 

Onto the album itself. Well, it DefJam, Island and Leona are serious about getting a hit album, I don't see how they fail. I love the sample of YKMW - and yeah, I know samples can be deceiving - but whenever Leona's voice is allowed to shine in a song - her strong suit in my opinion - then her music is just so elevated. I would also really like to hear THICK SKIN in full. I really love its rhythm. And isn't I AM acoustic just sterling.

 

My release plans would be, considering released singles so far - THUNDER in US, and FUMF and I AM in UK,,

 

I GOT YOU - 2nd US and 3rd UK. From mid-October onward. TOP 40 airplay, for the love of god, and the usual, VEVO promo, etc. You need people sharing the music. IHY could carry the album till Christmas, I reckon, with Thanksgiving being another period where it could really work.

 

YKMW - they could test it first with live tv performances, and then decide whether to go with it as a single or not. The era needs a proper ballad, stripped back with vocals at the top.

 

FUMF - because, I still believe its the most energetic song in the album. No remix, maybe just a bigger video.

 

Last, Best and the Worst just seems to be begging for a Mackelmore feature. It reminded me of Same Love a bit.

and dated. I have really enjoyed her other albums too, which is a shame.

Nothing comes even close to Another Love Song yet, it's the one thing from this era that really sounds like it could be a hit. So of course she'll gloss over it just like Outta My Head, Glassheart and Come Alive :(

It's looking like Bring Me The Horizon will beat them both anyway. Looks like Leona will be around 5 - 8, I reckon.
