We need to know more immediately lol

The Taylor Swift performance was really random too but very welcome! Haha this would be epic..

Aren't Rihanna and Leona label mates? So it could make sense...
Leona could have excellent promotion in the UK right now, she's still a rather big name and she could manage performance slots on X Factor, Strictly, Children In Need and Alan Carr for the next single which would be incredible promotion along with an album discount.
But if Heart, Capital and Radio 1 aren't going to support her, what else could she have done?

The point is that if she had the right material, she might have actually gotten radio support. If Leona's first single had been strong enough it might have got support, but 'Fire Under My Feet' was always going to have a hard time.

Radio is very political and most stations don't care about material quality. One More Sleep only got good radio coverage after it had become a hit (which only happened after the X Factor performance). I don't doubt that some of the big stations would support a Leona track again in the future, but they want to see that the public have an interest first.

The problem is Capital and Heart would only playlist Leona again once she scores a hit without them - whether that's in America or in the UK. 'One More Sleep' only got their support once it rocketed into the iTunes top 5 after an XF performance. Radio 1 are too desperate chasing the teen demographic to playlist a 30 year-old singer who's lost a lot of her worldwide profile. It's nothing really to do with the song - Emeli, Sam, Adele, Kelly Clarkson etc have all received their support despite them being Adult Contemporary artists, but they are all either still seen as young enough to fit the Radio 1 criteria or have maintained a strong worldwide profile which makes them relevant enough to get playlisted.

I know some people think 'Fire Under My Feet' is too weak and that is the reason for the lack of radio support but would you all consider 'One More Sleep' to be a weak lead single? I'd assume not but that would've charted not much higher than its #34 début if it wasn't for that XF performance. XF gave the song a platform to be heard and the public liked it (like they do with a lot of Leona's performances - 'Hurt' in particular) which then persuaded radio to get on board. Radio haven't even given FUMF a chance. Capital and Heart haven't touched it once. Radio 1 didn't C-List it at the very least. It's easy to say "it's too weak to be a hit" but personally I think there are far weaker songs doing well in the charts right now (obviously it is a matter of opinion though). Then there's the argument of "the public just aren't here for Leona" but she proved they are just under two years ago. Then there's "Leona's new material is nothing we haven't heard before" but that could be said for a lot of songs that are popular now. Ultimately, it just seems Leona's popularity and relevance are very underestimated by UK radio stations. She's clearly not the big star she used to be but, as the Taylor and Jason duets suggest, the public are still here for Leona. The amount of times people have posted "where has Leona Lewis gone?" or "when is Leona Lewis going to come back?" on Twitter/Facebook/YouTube comments shows that Leona's problem - more than the quality of material - is visibility and promotion. The key to that is radio play.

Sorry that was a bit longer than I intended.

That's not true though. It was already getting play on heart a week before the X-factor performance and was Radio 1's track of the day a few days before it. So I think even without the X-factor performance it would've gotten a good amount of support (the song was very well received and rose iTunes really well without promotion). "One More Sleep" would've still likely have gone top 10 without the X-factor performance (Heart would've hammered it and Radio 1 looked like they would've supported it anyway with it being track of the day and all).

I think the problem is that "Fire Under My Feet" was essentially a weak rehash of "Rolling In The Deep" and her TV performances hardly had any effect on its iTunes position unfortunately. It only made it to #21 on iTunes at its peak, whilst "One More Sleep" was much better received/went higher despite less promotion airplay and was released on air/on sale (FUMF had a bit of build up). So there was no real reason for radio to pick it up as it wasn't being well received somewhat.

If Leona had released "Another Love Song" as the lead single, I'm sure it would've done a lot better and had more radio support. It had a really good reception from fans/non fans alike when released as an instagrat and even got a play on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

The only way Leona's going to get visibility is by releasing radio friendly songs. Leona's promotion has been fine/good (especially in the US), but unless she gets commercial radio support, comments such as "Where is Leona?", "I didn't know she had an album out!" etc will continue.

I don't think One More Sleep would have quite managed the top 10 without D Factor but it was getting R2/heart support and would have easily made the top 20. I remember it was increasing very slow, but getting a lot of dark teen updates all week before the X factor performance.

There was a mess up with the single choices basically.

While I agree Another Love Song would have been the best first single, it wouldn't work now. She's established now with just r2 and heart support and she doesn't want to hinder the only support she's getting. Radio 2 were the only station that supported new Madonna(apart from Capital very briefly) but they didn't hardly play the first single because it was too dancey and they totally snubbed the 3rd dancey single.

Heart hasn't supported her at all this campaign. BBC Radio 2 would support "Another Love Song" I think (they played it 2-3 times during album of the week) and I think it's the best shot they have at getting Leona commercial radio support (Kiss/Capital/Radio 1 etc). Quite frankly it would be better they choose the most radio-friendly song as they have nothing to lose. I don't think "Power"/"You Knew Me When" etc would do that well or help the album out much if they only get Radio 2/Magic FM support. Although live performances could help.

Hoping she'll have good TV slots in November/December for the album.

One More Sleep was not OA/OS, it was unveiled roughly a month before its digital release in the uk, and I don't recall one more sleep ever making the radio 1 playlist (apologies if wrong there). Plenty of tracks get the track of the day treatment and not play listed, so although there was support from radio 1 it wasn't consistent.

Comparisons like these are difficult as they had very different promo campaigns and released at very different times of year, so hard to compare. Do I ever think Fire could have gone top 5, no. I do not doubt it would have done much better than its actual chart peak if it had.

It all depends now whether there will be continued promo for this album in the run up to Christmas, or if they are scrapping the album now and moving on. The lack of news here is worrying me. As has been said, just push the most radio friendly track over the season, see if they can get a strictly/X factor slot and hope they can at least go silver with the album here.

More needs to be done in mainland Europe. The Germans/Austrians have been very loyal. Worthwhile for her label to keep promoting her there while there is still a clear fanbase.

Soo....whats next? Anything lined up?

She's doing some radio concerts in the US in the next couple weeks and she'll perform at the MOBO awards November 4th in the UK (Possibly collab with Rihanna on the performance too). No news about the next single though.

Also some info for today:

Album is #109 in UK midweeks - sold ~600 sales so far this week.

Total sales, including this weeks sales, stand at 12,016.

Rather dire, need to get a move on with the next single.

(Thanks to Joe for this!).

I Am #109 in the UK this week with 917 sold and 12,915 total sales. Thanks to Joe for the info! :)

Based off Spotify, Another Love Song appears to be the clear favourite for the next single with just under 800,000 streams listed (in comparison Thunder has 2.95 million streams and FUMF has 2.64 million streams). Considering it hasn't had any real promo in comparison to both of those which have been official singles with videos, I would say it is a promising sign as to how it would do if it got properly pushed.

Those sales are very dissapointing but sadly not surprising. Thanks for sharing.

It's a shame Another Love Song won't really have a chance, I think in other circumstances or for another artist (you could say that about many songs though I suppose) it would have really been a hit but with only radio 2 supporting this era I don't think ALS will work as a single. It would alienate that audience and no matter how good the song is Radio 1/Capital etc won't touch her with a bargepole, I'd probably rather they just left it rather than it flopping :(

I feel like if they go forward with another album, then in the space between they need to get her featuring on other people's work, hopefully a hit or two can come from that and help her radio situation out. Island and Def Jam should be able to make that happen.

Obviously these 'hits' would need to be followed by strong, radio friendly singles of her own.

Really I would have preferred this to have happened before I Am, but alas, what's done is done.
