No, but I remember they once went against each other twice in the singles back in 2004!

 

Kylie's 'Red Blooded Woman' reached #5, with George Michael's 'Amazing' beating it to #4.

 

Then they released their next singles the same week again, Kylie's 'Chocolate' was #6 and George Michael's 'Flawless' #8.

 

(Not relevant to the album chart I realise, but still interesting (ish))

Interesting that the George Michael album does not seem to be on Spotify. Not sure what impact this has on sales.

I'm also surprised to see her at #1 - I assumed her sales would be overwhelming phyiscal, so she'd only make a modest impression on the d/l chart. :unsure:

Well, yeah, but sales generally are mostly physical, so topping the iTunes chart doesn't contradict that.

 

As for overall position, imo Kylie has it in the bag - GM has no single promoting his album,

Yes he has, it's a cover of a Terence Trent D'Arby song you won't remember.

 

and Mothers Day or not, Kylie's album is likely to get as much promo as George's. Plus there's likely to be significant overlap of their fanbases, anyway. ;)

I think George will get the #1 album just - Out of his 7 solo releases 6 have topped the chart and one got to #2 - He is a consistent album selling artist despite having huge gaps in between releases.

I never realised how consistent George Michael's discography peaks are - similar to Robbie Williams but arguably more impressive as it's over a much longer period (though also arguably less impressive as there are far fewer releases so maybe call it a tie). Both of Wham!'s studio albums were #1s as well.

can I ask what % these days do iTunes albums count towards the charts or downloads in general.... cant be that much surely?

 

 

Looks like the MCR album sold little to no pre-orders beyond its initial surge if it's that low :o Thought it might have appealed a little bit beyond their fanbase seeing as it's a greatest hits to end their career. Surprised to see Foster The People going in ahead of Wilko Johnson/Roger Daltrey as well given the latter has been in and out of the top 100 the last couple of weeks.

 

Will be interesting to see if this new version of 'True' is combined with the original. I'd guess it won't be as it's a remix album but it's hard to tell sometimes.

Seems like another fairly packed week of releases - the Wilko/Roger album now doing more like I expected from the pre-orders and after reading a bit of the back story of it I'm not surprised it's doing so well. It's a farewell album from Wilko Johnson who has terminal cancer. Would be a nice surprise #1 were it to get there!

 

Oh and it isn't top 100 on iTunes of course but another new album from Joe Bonamassa :cheer:
