Your song is an Elton John cover! This was just posted by Music Week;

John Lewis Xmas ad to feature Ellie Goulding

FRUKT on Brands: UK retail brand John Lewis is to roll out its Christmas ad campaign this weekend during The X Factor, a campaign that will once again centre on the use of an emotive music sync.

The 60-second ad, which focuses in on various people in the process of wrapping presents, will feature Ellie Goulding's version of the famous Elton John track 'Your Song'. The cover version, which has been produced in collaboration with Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons, will also be used in shorter 30-second spots.

“We all have our well worn rituals at this time of year and we wanted to bring them to life in this campaign,” said Craig Inglis, director of marketing at John Lewis..

The new commercial follows on in a similar vein from the successful ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ ad campaign back in April, which featured The Guillemots Fyfe Dangerfield singing a cover of the Billy Joel track ‘Always A Woman’. Ellie Goulding was specifically chosen to compliment the brand’s uniquely British status.

Last year the retailer opted for a stripped down cover version of Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ as performed by Swedish singer Victoria Bergsman’s solo project, Taken by Trees.

The new ad runs from the 13 November for five weeks and the Ellie Goulding track will be made available to purchase via both iTunes and Johnlewis.com

Was it the John Lewis advert that featured the Fyfe Dangerfield cover of She's Only A Woman? Judging by the success of that, this should do very well indeed, and appeal to people who wouldn't usually buy her music.

Can't wait to hear that! :o

I think it'll sound quite odd on first listen just because the original is so well known though!

A 30 second clip has leaked and it doesn't sound that promising imo but it sounds like towards the end it could get better.

It just sounds a bit dreary for the first 25 seconds or so. I love Ellie's voice, but I don't know if it's strong enough to pull off a song like this!

Just got to hear her version of 'Your Song'. I find it not very special. But then, I'm not expecting much for a cover to be used in a John Lewis advert (*cough* 'Sweet Child O' Mine' *cough* 'She's Always A Woman' *cough*).

But I'm thinking there's a chance that the cover will become her biggest selling song to date.

Video;

It's okaaaay, just a little dreary and simple I think. Can see people eating it up though and being a fairly big hit.

Really like the video. She's so cute.

I really like the full song, much more than I expected to from the clip.

Yes, it's quite simple but I think it works!

So damn cute ! Naturally, I love it.. I just love her voice and she could sing the Yellow Page to me ^_^

She's adorable in the video!

That's a nice enough version of the song. Just a bit dull and dreary, like Jack said. Her voice is pleasently nice on it though.
It's nice! I'm not usually a huge fan of Ellie, I find her nauseatingly boring most of the time, and perhaps it's just the fact that I love the original anyway but she's done a good job of things here.

I think it's just 'nice' really. Nothing special at all.

Still, looking forward to seeing her in Bristol tomorrow night :D

I love her voice... but.... I heard Your Song on the radio yesterday - and it's a really unremarkable, bland cover of a true classic.

I agree, she doesn't really pull this off but it's okay.

I like the video though, I like videos that show off a singer's real life character and personality, kind of like Robyn's 'Hang With Me' as well. ^_^

There's something quite haunting about her version of 'Your Song'. Really growing on me though, loving it.
Actually in total love with 'Your Song' now. Her voice is so so gorgeous, i love the video too <3

I'm starting to change my mind about the Elton John cover lately. I think it's quite decent now. The first half is a bit boring, then it gets much better.

Can't believe that is #1 on iTunes now. It can have a higher peak than 'Starry Eyed' too.

OH NO. Your Song is a cover.

Lazy. Why would such a young and promising artist do this?Ok for a b-side. Not for the lead single off a re-released album. This should have been her striking out for new territory, to make her out as more than just pop artist.

Disappointing.

It's mainly for the John Lewis advert.

Been to see her tonight, with my friend and AaronTM. She was amazing as ever !

She was! I had such a good time, loved seeing "Human", "Your Song" and "The End" for the first time.

SPEAKING OF WHICH. You can now pre-order this on iTunes and guess what 'extras' you get?! Track 18 is "The End (Acoustic)"!!! I've been wanting a final version of this for about...a year. I knew it seemed weird that she was doing it on tour, with no sign of if being on the re-release. The iTunes version also features all 12 of her live performances from the iTunes festival this year (which I also went to...with Casey) and her five music videos. So, for £7.99, I'm rather tempted to pre-order. But I also want the CD. :( Gosh. I feel like a proper loon.

Anyway, if you're interested, I've got some really good quality videos of the three new songs she did from this album.

Human

Your Song

The End

I also have her covers of "Roscoe" and "Sweet Disposition" as well as "Guns and Horses" on my channel. I'm seeing her again on Friday, I love her shows so much. "The End" and "Your Song" were highlights (was a bit choked up on them. heh.) but she even manages to make "Salt Skin" stand out.
