Midweek Charts: You Me At Six to give revived BMG first UK No 1

Source: MW

by Paul Williams

You Me At Six are set to give BMG a first UK No 1 album under its present incarnation.

The UK group’s fourth album Cavalier Youth, released in a label services deal with the German company, is currently leading the midweek listings by around 15,000 sales and looks poised to top the chart this weekend.

It is You Me At Six’s first album with BMG with their previous two having come out through Virgin Records. These include their previous release Sinners Never Sleep, which in 2011 reached No 3, their highest peak to date.

Official Charts Company data shows Cavalier Youth is one of four independent titles in the latest Sales Flashes Top 10. The others include US metal core band Of Mice & Men's third album Restoring Force, which is new at 6 in the midweeks. Released on the Rise Records label, it follows their previous two efforts failing to chart at all in the UK.

The indie Top 10 hand is completed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Wanderlust on her own EBGB’s label and Domino act Arctic Monkeys’ AM. Wanderlust is looking to spend a second week at the top table as it declines 4-5 in the midweeks, while AM returns to the Top 10 with a 14-7 climb as sales lift 50% week-on-week. Its progress is helped by some retail discounting, while it also won the pop music award prize at Monday’s South Bank Awards.

Just outside the Top 10, The Rifles register at No 12 with None The Wiser, their fourth album in all and first for Cooking Vinyl. It looks likely to become their highest-charting album yet with the group's current best peak No 27, achieved in 2009 with Great Escape on the Warner-owned sixsevenine label.

Polydor act Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon returned to No 1 last Sunday, but is back down to No 2 in the week so far. Beyonce’s self-titled RCA-handled album holds at No 3 and Postiva/PRMD signing Avicii’s True moves up 5-4 with sales improving 20%.

Bastille’s Virgin-issued Bad Blood drops 7-8, while Bruce Springsteen’s Columbia set High Hopes falls 2-9 and Virgin act Lorde's Pure Heroine moves back up 16-10 with its sales increasing 60%.

Brand new entries outside the Top 10 include Newport band Skindred’s fifth album Kill The Power, released on the Doublecross label via Cooking Vinyl, which registers at No 15 in the week so far. Also debuting are albums from Inside Out/Century Media’s Transatlantic, One Little Indian-signed Asgeir, Warner Bros’s Sheryl Crow, veterans Paul Rodgers (The Royal Sessions on Savoy/Fontana) and David Crosby (Cruz on indie Blue Castle) and Gaslight Anthem with a B-sides collection issued by Side One Dummy.

Meanwhile, sales of Parlophone act Tinie Tempah’s Demonstration album are up 121% on the week to lift it 43-22 after he chatted and performed last Saturday on Jonathan Ross’s ITV show.

Gutted at Gary Barlow's position, i wanted 10 weeks top 10 for him

So pleased for SEB! I wonder how much the vinyl version is helping? It was released this week as a bundle - Vinyl, MP3 download and signed picture for £18 - Meaning 2 sales for the album for each one purchased!

Deleted my stupidness, I forgot it's already time
Also epic to see SEB 'Young Blood' in the Top 40! Although it's dropped 2 places since yesterday so not hopeful it will last until Sunday especially as there is only 1 version of the song available so no chance of multi-buys from fans due to remixes etc,

Surely any potential multibuying fans would have done so several weeks ago anyway? :P

Clean Bandit already back at the top, hooray. Big Brother doing something useful for a change.

I thought an mp3 download with a vinyl was more of a complimentary addition, so the purchaser can easily listen to it? I don't know the rules, but it would surprise me if one purchase = two sales.

Indeed - Was hoping for an EP to be rush released when interest started to be shown in the track - Either way great achievement on its 4th week

Surely there's two (technically) - single, and album... ;)

I really hope she stays T40 though, too.

Do albums not work the same as single bundles? I know when that boyband M.A.D made the Top 40 they had a 2 CD and 1 MP3 bundle and were encouraging fans to buy it as it would count as 3 sales? They are doing the same with their new single too.

Pure Heroine back in the top 10  Surprised to see 'Royals' climbing so much as well, though I'm sure it'll drop back a fair bit over the week as the Grammy effect wears off.

Exactly, I don't know where that came from as she has one at #52 and one at #89 on iTunes currently.

Regarding the album I'm SO made up for her, she truly deserves this after all the bad luck she's had these past few years.

Presumably by 'only one version' he meant only one *unique* version. There are two versions on iTunes but they're exactly the same recording. (I assume they are anyway, I haven't actually checked nor have I even heard the song)

My comment was more regarding the fact there were no remixes of the single to buy rather than there being 2 identical versions - Single and album, either way hope she can hold on to the Top 40 - Would be a great week for her with a Top 40 single and Top 5 album

Only 3k on yesterday for YMA6 but another four days of that and it's good for 35k, with Saturday sales to counteract the fact it'll probably start to decline before then.

For comparison, Sinners Never Sleep opened with 27k while Hold Me Down did 20k so good progress there.

Clean Slaydit back at #1 woo yeah! :cheer: Although how the f*ck is Idina Menzel still climbing? She hasn't had any airplay outside of the song being used in Frozen (as far as I know), so surely it should be decreasing in popularity now it's been out for over a month.

Lol at Elyar Fox already down to #38 on week 3 and potentially missing the top 40 by Sunday.
