The "Pop Emergency" came short of winning this rate! Sorry Goddess Gaga! "Applause" is a song by American recording artist Lady Gaga, taken from her third studio album, Artpop (2013). Written and produced by Lady Gaga and DJ White Shadow, the song was released on August 12, 2013 by Interscope Records as the album's lead single. Originally intended for a release through mainstream and rhythmic airplay on August 19, 2013, it was rush-released a week earlier after two snippets of the song were leaked online on August 10. Details of the song were revealed throughout 2013 as Gaga tweeted its lyrics in early 2013. Written while touring for her Born This Way Ball, "Applause" almost missed inclusion on Artpop, let alone serving as a single. A mix of electropop and Eurodance evocative of Gaga's first studio album The Fame (2008), the song deals with how she is dependent on her fans' adoration, while her vocals on the track have been compared by music critics to those of Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics and David Bowie. While, overall, the song received generally positive reviews, contemporary music commentators incessantly compared the track to Katy Perry's "Roar" song, due to the proximity and nature of their releases. Pervasively, the commercial competition between the two songs has been the subject of many news articles and musical critiques. "Applause" was commercially successful. It became Gaga's twelfth top-ten single in the United States, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The record reached number-one in Lebanon, Greece, Hungary, South Korea and Spain, peaking within the top five in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Wallonia while also peaking within the top 10 in over 15 other markets. To promote the record, Gaga performed at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, with many other notable live performances following. Additionally, Gaga sported the dramatic and colorful makeup employed on the single's cover art as a promotional tool on the day of release and after, encouraging her fans to wear it as well. The concept was inspired by a scene from the track's music video, which saw an official release on August 19. While on the Good Morning America news television show, Gaga premiered the video on the screens in Time Square. Beforehand, Gaga released an impromptu lyric video that she shot herself at the Mickys' drag nightclub.

'Applause' ranks as my second least fave single from her. I still adore it but compared to her highs it's weak.

Top 2 clearly reflecting the mindset of the site's posters xxx

Applause grew on me so damn much. First listen = This is generic and I don't like it, what a disappointment, then the more I heard it the more I liked it. The chorus and the lead-up to it are incredible on all sorts of levels.

'Sexxx Dreams'

And the unfortunate runner-up, is $l*t anthem 'Sexxx Dreams'! "Sexxx Dreams" is a song written by Lady Gaga and produced by DJ White Shadow for ARTPOP. She revealed the song title and some of the lyrics via Twitter on February 6, 2013. The censored version of the song names it "X Dreams" as shown in the track listing of iTunes. This throbbing Pop anthem contains raunchy lyrics in which Gaga attempts to seduce someone by describing an explicit dream. By the end of the tune the singer acknowledges how ridiculous she is being, blaming it on having had a couple drinks. Gaga debuted the song during her headline performance at the iTunes Festival on September 1, 2013.

On The Red Carpet Review:
Gaga gets sultry and
seductive on this song, which finds Gaga
dreaming of a lover. Gaga, herself, seems
surprised by her candor on the track, giggling
during the song's bridge, "I can't believe I'm
telling you this but I've had a couple of drinks
and, oh my god."
Billboard Review:
And here's where the
sexuality and synth-pop pleasures of "ARTPOP"
fully bloom: "Sex Dreams," in which Gaga
balances a disintegrating relationship and a
lustful fantasy, similarly juggles a pastel-colored
80's aesthetic and R-rated breakdown of
unspoken desire. At the "I can't believe I'm
telling you this…" conclusion, Gaga sounds
loose and light-hearted, letting her audience
twirl around on the dance floor.

Popdust Review:
Here we go, a kinky, sexy vibe of a song about
getting horney and letting your lover know. Us
women love songs like this. It’s got powerful lyrics
that manage to vibrate through the speakers,
and it provides us with a perfect pop solo–
something we’re happy to sing out loud.
I like how this song stays consistent. There’s a lot
of repetition of the title, and lyrics say it all.
I cant wait for the music video! Maybe a repeat of
bad romance? I hope so.

MTV Review:
There’s something so goofily erotic about telling
someone “ you were in my sex dreams.” (Note to
self: STOP DOING THAT.) It’s such a cumbersome
phrase, yet Gaga somehow makes it one of the
most erotic lines you’ll heard all year. The half-
giggled “I really shouldn’t be telling you this” line
at the song’s climax — no pun intended — really
seals the deal.

'Do What U Want' (feat. R. Kelly)
Average: 9.52

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e0/Lady_Gaga_-_Do_What_U_Want.png/220px-Lady_Gaga_-_Do_What_U_Want.png

And our winner is... "Do What U Want" is a song by American
recording artist Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly for
her third studio album, Artpop (2013); it
appears as the seventh track on the album.
The song was written by Lady Gaga, Paul "DJ
White Shadow" Blair, R. Kelly, Martin Bresso
and William Grigahcine. A snippet of "Do What
U Want" was first heard on a Best Buy/Beats
commercial on October 17, 2013. The track
was made available early on the iTunes Store
ahead of the full release of Artpop. "Do What U
Want" was released as the album's second
single on Amazon.com on October 21, 2013.
"Do What U Want" was presented to Gaga by
Blair around two years before. They developed
and worked on the song until 2013, when it
was finally added to the track-list of Artpop
after adding Kelly's vocals. Musically the song is
a synthpop and R&B track containing '80s
throbbing synths and an electronic beat.
Lyrically, the song is straightforward and finds
Gaga telling off her detractors with the
sentiment that her thoughts, dreams, and
feelings are her own, no matter what one does
with or says about her body.
Upon release, the song was met with acclaim,
with critics praising the simplicity of the song
with its '80s-inspired production and the
commercial appeal. Some compared Gaga's
vocals to those of Tina Turner's and Christina
Aguilera's. It was listed as one of the 100 Best
Songs Of 2013 by Rolling Stone, ranked at
number 17.[1] In the United Kingdom, "Do
What U Want" was deemed ineligible to enter
the The Official UK Singles Chart until the
release of Artpop. The song peaked at number
nine on the UK charts, after the release of the
album. Gaga has performed an acoustic
version of the song on the tenth series of The X
Factor (UK), which prompted complaints to the
broadcaster and British media regulator,
Ofcom, due to Gaga's costume, performance
and suggestive lyrics, which was broadcast
before the 9pm watershed. She also performed
the song on many high profile American shows
including Saturday Night Live, American Music
Awards of 2013 and The Voice (U.S. TV series)
with Christina Aguilera.

And there ya go~

Hope everyone enjoyed the rate! :party2:

Now kindly rate Kath's hosting skils, you may use nine 11s and no -1s;

xx Kath's hosting

Definitely the best winner, although a 'Sexxx Dreams' win wouldn't have been disappointing at all! 'Do What U Want' is one of the biggest highlights of her career though.

11(00000) Kath's hosting [so much effort went in :o]

'Do What U Want' is practically her best single ever now! :D Well, in my opinion at least. Such a shame it never got a music video!

Killer top 2. Will probably always look back on 'Do What U Want' as the single that should have been huge, but at least we GOT it as a single. I'll spin it as the one that saved us from 'Venus' instead.

And wonderful hosting Kath<3 Here's to many more.

Absolute joke that joke of a song is so high.
